The Trump administration is giving Pfizer 2 billion dollars to produce 100 million doses of a vaccine that has not even been though all the proper trials yet. Trump and trying to get them to bang through something before the election.
I would suggest red hat Republicans take it first and the rest of us will wait till Biden is President and see what vaccines are available next year after the proper time and trials are done on a vaccine.

Don't you think he is hedging the be?. If it works, Pfizer can sell to anyone on the globe at whatever price they decide. So wait for it to be effective and fully tested and maybe the U.S. will only get a small percentage of the production of the vaccine while some Middle Eastern country or some European nation ups the price and grabs the doses.
There is NO obligation for Pfizer to sell to the U.S., but if they have pre-sold doses, we get those.
But hey, anything Trump does is bad because he is Trump.

I have been getting a flu shot for the last 15 years, the one year I didnt get it I got the flu, but they are constantly revising the flu shot
Why anyone would take a CoVid shot from a first generation batch without any evidence of side effects or even it effectiveness is foolish
but the lemmings out there will be the first in line to get the shot because the media will hype it that way and the company that gets it to the market will become zillionaires...UNTIL the first person either has a horrific side effect or dies from it, then the lawsuits will begin

He pretty much said he was gonna do this at the launch of operation warp speed but we all got the cliffs notes version of the plan. Im sure there is more detail in the plan than ok whoever gets there fist gets 2 billion.

I'd vote for a bag of rocks before voting for Trump, but I agree with this deal.
The money will basically go towards producing the doses so that they are already on the shelf BEFORE they get FDA approval. This is a common strategy in the pharmaceutical world, but companies typically only build enough to support the initial demand. In this case, the intent would be to cover 1/3 of the US population on day 1, and be prepared to very quickly ramp up on day 2.
2 billion is chump change compared to the potential benefit to the economy if the vaccine is effective. The quicker an effective vaccine can be deployed, the faster the economy recovers.
Remember too that FDA approval is not just about the vaccine, but the manufacturing facilities and the quality systems in place for production. In that regard, Pfizer probably has fewer risks than Moderna or some other start-up.
I'd be much more concerned with Trump strong-arming the FDA to prematurely approve the vaccine just for political points. I would definitely take the vaccine, but I would want to see the safety and efficacy data.

You do realize for a vaccine to really work across a population, that not only does it have to be effective, but enough people have to take it so with the vaccine the population reaches herd immunity, which means that there are enough people who are immune to the disease to impede transmission enough so that the virus is suppressed.
If the vaccine is only 50% effective, and only 25% of the population decides to take it when it comes out, this probably won’t be enough to create this state of herd immunity, and yes I’m including the fact we get closer to herd immunity the more people get and recover from COVID-19.
I’d look into safety and efficacy of the vaccine when it comes out, and if it is both, I’d take it ASAP. Everyone needs to take it. We need to beat down this virus once and for all.
