It's going to get really interesting to see the outcome of hollywood bending the knee to all this crap.
Can't imagine what'll happen if Trump wins re-election. I expect the dems will spontaneously combust.

Get ready for it, Scout. He's gonna win. Again.
Rejoice!
|

Too much 'cancel culture' on the right too, like the boycott MLB, which failed today by the way.
|
|
So its agreed, shit needs to stop from all siides!
|

^ Taking two knees!
|
|
^ It'd be nice if that would happen but I wouldn't hold my breath.
Common sense, working together to get things done and for the good of all, and actually representing the people that sent them there have all gone out the window.
Now it's all about who can tag someone from the other side without getting blamed for it. Well that serving their corporate overlords for millions in legal bribe money. .
I have a very bad feeling we're watching the end of the United States and the 'great experiment'.
But then I'm a cynic.

I think cancel culture is a meaningless term. It's a sad sign of how modern discussions go. A term is agreed to be bad then everyone tries to fit thier pet peeve to that term.
Seems originally cancel culture was trying to stop speakers and events because you didn't agree with their message. That's bad. Unamerican. No matter what your politics may be. And stupid since usually the protest just drew attention to some fringe speaker who might have had 8 people in audience.
Boycott is not CC... it's walking away. Seems ok. Don't like it, don't go.
Pulling down statues and ridding bases of names associated with enemy soldiers isn't CC. It's correcting past mistakes.

Well... at a strip mall not far from where I live... guy had a gun... was threatening a customer. Restaurant staff called PD. They showed up 1:15 after the call.
Yeah... let’s defund the police.
|
|
Police definitely need defunding.
Wouldn't affect that situation at all.
Defunding stops rural and even urban forces from buying surplus military grade weapons and vehicles that they don't need and are not trained for but then try to use.
It takes a chunk of funds from the grossly overfunded PDs (they all are now) and applies it to public safety and crime reduction. Police are terrible at public safety and xrine prevention. They are ok at law enforcement.
Scale them back to what they do best and move funds
|
|
there was a time when the local police could not protect themselves properly with what they had...the cartels and gangs had access to advanced weaponry and it was filtering its way down to the streets
in general, the "surplus military gear" is transferred/donated...yes they do also buy military-grade stuff.
you can have your VOTE to defund the police... I want my police equipt to protect themselves and the city...I'm good with my tax dollars going in those directions
the upcoming election will take all this into account
|
|
I think we should actually give more funding to the police so they get the proper sensitivity and racial bias training (like the work Jennifer Eberhardt from Stanford does with local police). The LAST thing they need is less training.
|
|
I don't believe there was ever a time when police couldn't protect themselves but certainly was a sad story they told over and over as scare tactics to get more funding than they ever should have. (Secret fear message: if we can't protect us we can't protect you) Who can blame them? Tell creative lies and get more power and cool toys.
Don't fall for it again. We did. We gave them more. And more. And things got worse. Police got more aggressive. Streets are more dangerous. Bad cops are shielded by police unions
Ultimately don't be fooled by the story. Look at what actually happened. Overfunding cops leads to less safety and more crime.
Not cops fault, cities should be spending part of police budget on proven crime reduction and prevention. And police don't do that
|
|
Agree though training is an issue.
Crazy how little training it takes to be a cop.
Less on toys and weapons, more on screening, training, reporting.
Reallocating $$ is part if defunding too
|
|
unions protect lots of bad people...let's start there
the dude that killed floyd should have been gone long ago from the force
all that other stuff... I might need to see some real data and background on that to delve into...with the defunding arguments going on, it appears we might be seeing some of this stuff coming to light on both sides

Something that was clear to law enforcement officers on the street, became clear to the public in 1997 with the North Hollywood Bank Robbery.
Police were out gunned and out equipped.
They got those simply because of out numbering them.
Train them well. Equip them well.
Lower the threshold for firing them. Like the teachers union helps keep bad teachers in classrooms, police unions help keep bad cops on the street.

^^ They got those guys (the bank robbers) simply by out numbering them.
Twenty years ago, on Feb. 28, 1997, two men armed with fully automatic weapons and clad in heavy body armor did more than rob the Bank of America at 6600 Laurel Canyon Blvd. in North Hollywood.
For 44 thunderous minutes, they marched through a neighborhood under siege, spraying stores, homes and cars with 1,100 armor-piercing bullets, wounding 11 police officers and six bystanders.
More than 300 outgunned law enforcement officers from five agencies, fighting for their lives, fired back with more than 550 rounds. But most were from .38 revolvers or 9 mm pistols pitted against an arsenal of high-capacity AK-47s and automatic rifles.
The police had to BORROW weapons from a now defunct Burbank gun store.
The anti gun peepholes managed to kill most guns stores, put in ridiculous rules on what weapons can be sold in crapafornia and they’re making it impossible to buy ammunition. So defund the police, take everything away from
law abiding citizens and guess who will still be armed!

Who cares what programming Amazon highlights or suggests? That’s like fat people yelling at their TV because of too many Jenny Craig commercials.
Don’t watch it.
The more you “protest”... the more you bring attention to it.
Clicks are all that matter in this culture. Watch what you like... ignore what you don’t.
Amazon/Netflix, etc... will always stream content everyone doesn’t like... but they will always invest most of their money producing content people want to watch.
Quit being being big babies.

@happyguy63 ..."I don't believe there was ever a time..."

happyguy...you need to read about Norco 80.
The police before 1980 had revolvers and limited rifles.
A gang of heavily armed bank robbers terrorized and shot up Norco, much of the IE and part of OC in a bank robbery where they had multiple automatic weapons and shot the hell out of the police. 1 police officer was killed, 8 wounded and 1 innocent bystander citizen was serious injured. 30 police cars and countless other vehicles, business and structures were damaged. The police were totally outgunned from the get go.
Tell the gangs and current criminals to deescalate their weapons and so can the police. You are fucking idiot thinking that we need to take the police back to an era of hand guns.
|
|
happyguy.....let's go shooting.....
You get a Smith & Wesson 29 6-shot revolver and I get an AR-15 with a 100 round clip.

"Crazy how little training it takes to be a cop"
Not sure where you get your information other than pulling it right out of your ass.
Most of the police departments have an extensive police academy training course lasting typically 21 or 22 weeks. Then the academy grads are assigned to training officers who are with them constantly for anywhere from 4-6 months and then most police departments have their new officers on probation for another 12-18 months.
The LAPD Academy is 6 months training, then field training for another 12 months.
Of course, you have to even qualify.....written exam, huge background check including interviews with family and friends, psychological evaluation, physical exam, etc.
Yep. Takes very little training to be a cop....damn.....stop watching CNN and actually learn something before shooting off your mouth.

"Takes very little training to be a cop"
Training in some areas is limited.

in Chicago protecting the Columbus statue...they looked out equipped and outmanned
in portland...there are three officers that might lose their eyesight from lasers being used...so maybe they could have used some extra military equipment to protect themselves
one cop being killed or two or three...law enforcement officers being maimed for life?? where is that outrage?
unfortunately, I think we need to see it a little bit more to get this shit to sink into stupid fuckers heads before the election...necessary casualties for the betterment of the country...the uglier the better.
I think i would take an ugly death myself (maybe a BLM knee to the neck) if I knew it would blow the Dems out in November... be a little bummed I could not witness the hysteria on TV again

ONLY criminals want to defund the police..
|
|
Give them what they want
Defund the police in those cities that demand it
Unless someone can tell me different
That would be 100% large Progressive run locales, right?
If we follow the logic of human emotional response
It'll be Gotham City without Batman
Criminal element takes over and trashes city
Dumb rich progressives flee to the countryside
Or preferably, get robbed and beaten
Remaining voters finally realize they got scammed
Vote different next time, not necessarily Republican
Maybe somebody who has some common sense regardless of party
Love visiting NYC, Chi-town and Frisco (pretentious b-holes there call it "The City")
But I can hold off a few years while they work thru the cycle

35+ years ago I was aware of people making illegal fully automatic weapons that they were selling to the Mafia. Do you think the Mafia was keeping all of those weapons for their own use or do you think they might have been selling some of them to other criminals?
Do you have any idea how many ghost guns are smuggled into the United States from places in Asia like the Philippines? If not I think you should watch Underworld Inc. By the way most of those guns come through California. In fairness most of those guns are not being sold to local street characters because they cost too much. And we haven't even addressed the people in this country that make untraceable weapons by buying various pieces and assembling the pieces into guns.
It does not surprise me that the police might end up outgunned in some situations.

THINGS THE POLICE DO NOT NEED:
Monies to conduct sting operations at massage parlors;
Monies to take action against private transactions between two consenting adults;
Purchase or possession of military grade vehicles;
Monies for additional red light cameras, radar guns, or motor/traffic enforcement officers; and
Monies for enforcement actions against businesses/professional licensees for minor violations of liquor licenses, cosmetology/barber licenses, etc.
WHAT THE POLICE DO NEED:
More money to infiltrate and enforce against gangs and organized crime;
More officers on the street to patrol and protect public and private property;
More money for border enforcement and enforcement of immigration laws;
More money to enforce laws against the use and possession of serious drugs, drug dealers, manufacturers, and importers; and
More investigation and enforcement for political corruption.

Yellow... it’s the rub and tug crowd that’s bringing down America.

How long must we allow Progressives to keep pushing the envelope, then....
blaming everything and everybody else for the fallout?
Seriously, all of these problem cities have been run by Progressives for 50 years, and...
they have become more and more progressive over time
Yet, somehow they don't take any responsibility or get called on it by the local/national media.
Nah, it's systemic raciscm, it's homelessness (which they caused), it's always something that somebody else did, never their own policies.
WTF? I don't care which party you're with, just have some gotsdamn common sense.
Stop virtue signalling and creating the opposite desired effect of what should happen for everyone's sake............including the poor, minorities, downtrodden, et al
