I don’t think he even wanted to win the 2016 nomination let alone the first term of his presidency.

does he want to run again? probably not at this point in time. but it's a little late for regrets 42 months into his first term
will he drop out before the GOP convention? not a chance, unless he experiences a severe health crisis which makes campaigning or serving another four years clearly impossible
OP is right that Trump doesn't like to be looked at as a failure. (although he should be used to it by now, with all the bankruptcies and revelations about misconduct, fraud, etc - the man has spent most of his life failing upwards.) but Trump probably also knows that even though things don't look great for him right now, he can't be counted out for re-election because:
1. the GOP turns out its voters, and many of them are passionate Trump supporters
2. with 100 days to go Biden is guaranteed to say lots of dumb things before Election Day. and Kanye may keep stirring shit up which also doesn't help Biden
3. with 100 days to go Trump holds the levers of power, including over the Federal troops now in some cities and the military
4. the Electoral College is tilted in favor of a Republican candidate. a disproportionate share of electors come from less populous states which tend to vote Republican
5. the House - if the election ends up there due to problems with the Electoral College tally - is tilted in his favor. even though Democrats have the majority in the House, the House doesn't decide based on a direct vote of 435 Representatives. instead each state has one vote, and the GOP controls 26 state delegations
6. there's probably only one thing Trump cares more about than his family, his businesses or his money: he doesn't want to go down in history as a loser. which brings me to...

Dude its not even about if he can win or not. I don't think he wants the pressure anymore. If he stops now and can run around and tweet bullshit against Biden for the next few years and stay at Marlogo and play golf all year long. He's there half the time already but tax payers of paying for it. He can put his library somewhere like Alabama. He can fire up the old Trump jet and people will throw eggs at it when its parked at an airport in a blue state.
