He was the lead guitar player in John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers, in one iteration of the band, before he was in Fleetwood Mac.
The same band also at times had Eric Clapton or Mick Taylor as guitarist; Mick Fleetwood and John McVie, later of Fleetwood Mac, also played in the Bluesbreakers at various times.
