No, a tide hasn't turned against anyone. This is simply a moment where the theory of lab escape has gotten more attention and popularity. If you've been following this story, as I have, for a while now, most of the facts have been known for over a year. Ok, we recently learned that a few people in the lab got sick early.
What this really is about, in my opinion, is the desire for some segment of the population to take its anger and frustration out on the public health and science experts it (inappropriately) blames for the difficulties we've had concerning COVID over the past year and change. Oh yeah, on China too, even though some of the blame there is apparently deserved. It's easier to have people be your target than a virus.
