Get a US passport card. TSA sees that and they have zero problems. And it’s the same size as a credit card so it easily fits in your wallet. Works as a second form of ID as well.

Also, every DMV office has a webpage on DMV’s site. And on that individualized page they have up to that moment current wait times for both appointments and non-appointments.
Make sure you have all the necessary paperwork to get the Real ID as they require some extra documents. You don’t want to get there and be turned around before you even get through the door.

I did my real ID down in San Clemente right near the beach and the new outlet stores. It was just a little more than an hour start to finish.
Be in line when they open and have plenty of the required documentation.

File all the required paperwork online, submit it and you'll get a code. Bring that printout with you and the money and the real paperwork and you'll be in and out real quick. Early morning is best.

Thanks, guys -- yeah, I did the prep work, but when I went to the LB DMV (early a.m.), it was like take a number and come back at 2pm and wait.
Looking for something more compact. Maybe LB was a bad location?

I got my real ID and changed my address at the Rancho Cucamonga DMV in May. I didn’t have an appointment. I was done and out of there in 20 minutes.

I made an appointment then drove to Barstow and was done within an hour. Had my new license in eight days.

Bring birth certificate, ss card and passport
Also bring a piece of mail as I had to come back with that info.
If u need a birth certificate you can go to the county u were born in and go to the clerk recorder officer and it's like 10 bucks to print
Social security offices can print a temp card
But Be careful losing ur s.s. card I found out the hard way I have lost mine like 6 or 7 times from moving and not carrying that stupid little card with me.
They informed me u can only get a max of 9 card in a life time
And I was appalled, I don't think I've lost a card in last 10 years since.
I wonder if it's to prevent people sharing there s.s. cards if ur maybe a illegal. Or want to sell to one.

Also vanity plates are on back order for like 9 months or more... I recall that prison inmates make them in the state for the dmv

I went to the DMV website and chose my nearby DMV and they have appointments this week. Fuck. But it was fun -- you are all fun.
And yes, no Real ID needed for awhile -- good to know, link below. But I need a change of addy anyways.

I agree with Gina. DMV @4pm or even 4:30. Staff wants to leave as fast after 5pm as then can. Done at 5:15 in Canoga Park.

Did all my online stuff in advance, showed up at Inglewood DMV on a tuesday at opening in morning with no appointment but all my paperwork in hand, in and out in less than 30 mins.

That Bishop DMV is on the money. Obviously you need to be up in that area to make it worth your while but never more than 3 people in there at a time.

Did this month ago at the San Clemente DMV. Went on a Tuesday morning, there was about a dozen in line at the door before they opened, I was done in about 1 hour. Did not make a appointment, walk in.
I brought my passport, mortgage and property tax bill and my current DL. Fill out the paperwork. That was it.

With the proper paperwork, the San Marcos DMV, 10 min from Escondido, off the 78fwy will get you in and out in 45 min before 10 and after 3.

A Passport is just ducky. However if you need to run around like a headless chicken finding a DMV (as opposed to getting an appointment at some mellow local and waiting) feel free.

Lost my drivers license...
Went to San Pedro DMV office...
On my lunch. In line at 11:00am, no appointment.
Done in 20 minutes. Back to work before lunch was over.

It truly shocks me that people still dont make appointments for DMV.
Ive made them and shown up with a line out the door and was serviced within 5 minutes and gone in 1 minute later.
MAKE AN APPOINTMENT.

I agree on the appointments; if I have to be there it's by apt. Takes a minute at most filling out the apt form on your phone, set it up on your calendar as a reminder then go on with your life. Still it does help to pick a good DMV because even apts end up in a backlog.

I hear that passport processing is backed up.
When I applied for my Real I.D. drivers license, I made an appointment at the Torrance DMV. I Had everything ready to go. Even with the written test, I was in and out in an hour.

Perfect you already found the Extension announcement. It's been extended several times. I'd been following, because my License renewal ended up during the pandemic when offices were closed. Real ID is in person thing.
I do enjoy the idea behind it.For instance, one example of documents gathering. The Federal Government requires the States to ask the citizens to gather their Certified Birth Certificate from the County of their birth, with their utility bill. Apparently tracking nor communication between governments, financial institution, nor utility company, exist. All are heavily regulated.
Also since mentioned in the post. Voter ID has to be provided for free or it's a Poll Tax, which is illegal. That's why CA Polling Places don't accept Driver License for ID.That Driver License fee & test ,would be considered illegal for requirement to vote.
The US Senate Blocked Voting Bill S1 that had Voter ID with in the Bill. June 22,2021.
Also when Voting in CA your name is associated with your Driver License signature and address. That's why they require you to sign at your polling place or on mail in ballot. If there's more than 1 from the same name with the address or signature differs. Then they flag the ballot.
But some how Driver License signature is okay?

I got a real ID from dmv when I got my Class B and M1 a while ago. Pretty cool shit. Challenging taking all three tests at the same time. But I’m a jack of many trades.

I got my first M1 when I renewed my class C license in 1973. I had already been riding for six years so the riding test on my little 500cc Suzuki was a piece of cake.

In California they call the new drivers license a real ID
Because the previous licenses apparently aren’t real
In Texas you can’t get a real ID. But to get a regular
Drivers license you have to show proof of citizenship or
Proof that you are in this country legally, show
A social security card, proof of residency, proof of registration
Of all of your vehicles and proof of insurance for them.

US Passport card or Global Entry Card is best.
Do not get a Real ID as the CA DMV scans your records and their (DMV) security isn't exactly great.
Best things about US Passport Card and Global Entry are they are US Federal issued ID and they don't have your Address on them or even what state you live in.
You can use this to check into a hotel and travel with domestically.
