I still have some hope that US could lead the world again, but not by invading other countries (US Iraq invasion of 2002), nor by using self-destructive force of capitalism (2008 collapse on Lehman Brothers), and definitely not by trying to become another Authoritarian State (Trump admin and the current Republicans from 2016 to the current).
That is exactly the reasons I am recommending this book for the third time; After the Fall: Being American in the World We've Made by Ben Rhodes
I don't read many books on politics, but I would say this is the one of the best I have ever read. There is a sense of urgency in this book. I would recommend that especially right wingers here in this community should read it (don't be selfish) in order to fully understand what is going on in the world.
The cold war is over and communism is gone for good, but now Western world with Democracy has to stand up against Authoritarian states (China, Russia etc...) for the sake of Democracy....some people calls this the second cold war because of the situation in Ukraine.

Such BS
"not by invading other countries (US Iraq invasion of 2002)"... The Orange guy is the only recent President that didnt and Biden has our global enemies ready to pounce right now in big ways.
"nor by using self-destructive force of capitalism"... So we should just print money then right?...
"and definitely not by trying to become another Authoritarian State (Trump admin and the current Republicans from 2016 to the current)."
OK this is flat out stupid. It is the Obiden admin trying to federalize everything including elections, squash dissenting speech (1st Amendment), take away gun rights ( 2nd Amendment ), *NOT* enforce the border and enable all kinds of smuggling and crime... I could go on.
I don't read many books on politics,.... I would recommend that especially right wingers here
* I'm going to pass based on your lack of fundamentals *
"The cold war is over and communism is gone for good"...
"But now Western world with Democracy has to stand up against Authoritarian states ( LIKE the Radical Left Democrat party) for the sake of Democracy....

Rabbit, poor turd, to be honest with you, you have the most meager intellect on your dried up right wing brain of yours
You better stop exposing your dumb ass opinion. The more you do, you prove your ignorance, but again you have no shame associated with anything important in this life

Rahcrener - wow....... just wow.
your comment about capitalism - you do know that the USA is not, I repeat NOT a capitalist country...... right?
Oh, it has elements of the free market, no question there, but we are a mixed market economy, with heavy - VERY heavy market distorting elements of socialism - way too much to even remotely consider us a capitalist society.

@Remo_Williams
Could you kindly rephrase what you really wanted to tell me? I did not quite understand what you meant by "socialism"?
I am not denying "free market" per se, I said "self destructive free market" is what caused the market crash freefall in 2008 and there should be some restrictions in order to avoid in near future.

Sigh....
sure.
We can both agree (I assume) that any definition of a given economic theory is pretty broad & open to interpretation, but with Socialism, most would agree it would include governmental ownership/ control of enterprise. We do NOT have a free market.
It would be easier to say what is NOT controlled, in whole or in part by the US Government..... but I think you wanted a list, so sure here is a list of examples of USA socialism.
Control of money supply - through the Fed. Reserve.
Education - the private sector "choice" is a joke & liberals want the competition squashed
The US Park service
US housing market - (Fannie/Freddie/ section 8, the list continues)
Private banking - controlled by the FDIC & a slew of other "protective" entities - for one thing forcing lenders to lend into unprofitable markets (ever hear of redlining?)
The Farm industry - every hear of governmental cheese? Farmers can't do as they please - what they do, what the plant, how much is regulated.
Retirement - Social Security (the ponzi scheme that it is)
Highway system - how many private roads are there?
The police - how many cities contract out their law enforcement?
the military
Library system - not too many private libraries for public consumption.
publicly traded companies - are very much watched & controlled by the SEC and tons of other "helpful" governmental agencies Walton & Bezos do NOT have free reign in what they do.
The mail service - regular mail I'm not talking FedEx
Health care for the retired - through Medicare/ medicade -
Amtrak
Fire departments
I could go on, about the only "industry" that government doesn't have effective control or controlling "owwnership" is...
Well.......
Prostitution.

The most destructive forces are solely generated by MAGA/Republicans. They are now so closely related, there is no way to distinguish from one from another;
Article 1.
"White Supremacist Candidate who disrupted Katie Porter Event has a history of violence"
"KATIE PORTER, the progressive California Democrat, came face to face on Sunday with one of her potential rivals in next year's midterm election: a young white supremacist, homophobe, and anti-vaxxer who boasts of engaging in street fights with racial justice protesters"
"The far-right candidate for the Republican nomination in Porter's CA-45 House district, Nick Taurus, disrupted Porter's first in-person town hall since the pandemic began, at a park in Irvine"
"Taurus, 29, is a rabid Trump supporter but also an acolyte of Nick Fuentes, the founder of the openly white supremacist America First movement who has been kicked off social networks but embraced by Rep. Paul Gosar, the far-right Arizona Republican whose objection to certifying his state's vote in the 2020 presidential election on Jan. 6 helped provoke the storming of the Capitol"
Article 2.
"Tennessee's former top vaccine official: 'I am afraid for my state"
"Today I became the 25th of 64 state and territorial immunization program directors to leave their position during this pandemic. That's nearly 40% of us. And along with our resignations or retirements or, as in my case, push from office, goes the institutional knowledge and leadership of our respective COVID-19 vaccine responses"
"On May 6, 2021, in advance of the approval of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine for 12-15 year olds and in response to multiple questions I had received regarding the rules around vaccinating minors, I reached out to Tennessee Department of Health's general counsel"
"On May 19th,TDH was asked to appear before the Government Operations Committee due to the concern that the memo was "a bit of a prodding or encouraging to vaccinate children without parental consent"
"What's more is that the leadership of the Tennessee Department of Health has reacted to the sabre rattling from the Government Operations Committee by halting ALL vaccination outreach for children. Not just COVID-19 vaccine outreach for teens, but ALL communications around vaccines of any kind. No back-to-school messaging to the more than 30,000 parents who did not get their children measles vaccines last year due to the pandemic"
"THIS is a failure of public health to protect the people of Tennessee and THAT is what is "reprehensible". When the people elected and appointed to lead this state put their political gains ahead of the public good, they have betrayed the people who have trusted them with their lives"
The above articles are just a PORTION of news that we find every single day reminding us that MAGA/Republicans are out of control/Anti-Democratic/Destructive/Disruptive forces in the US politics.
