+1 Torchey's son turned me on to them in Austin.

Haha I used to bartend at Torchy's in Houston. Hell NO !! Totally over rated & priced. I like to spend my money local. Independent mom & pop business. Those chains suck & treat employees like shit.
All I will eat there is the queso because Its made fresh every day!

Check out your local Taco truck...just a few blocks away, nevermind the heat.

Carnitas el momo.

One of my favorite local mom n pop taco places was forced to close during the lock down and didn't return.

Tacos mainly food trucks. If Orange County, in Orange there's, The Taco Stand. Quality excellence. Kinda of Booshie though. The Guac and chips great deal though
Rule of thumb with finding quality Mexican Food, if Mexican's eat at the restaurant then it's good food. None of this fake USA large corporate version food. A friend of my came out from the East Coast, thought Taco Bell was real Mexican food. Shake my head.
Also hole in the walls places tend to have good Mexican food.
With that said, if for convenience, the minimum level of large corporate food. Gotta be
El Pollo Loco their, Chicken Avocado Street Taco & Chicken Taco Al Carbon.
Rubios' Tacos

Doubt if any of the mom 'n pop places are left, in any state. The lockdowns killed them all including in Austin.
There used to be quite a few in south Pomona on Gary that served great food for a really great price.
Don't know if it's still open but there's a restaurant called 'Tropical Mexico' on East End on the Chino - Pomona border just north of the 60. Great food at a good price.
Don't be fooled cause it's a hole in the wall just look at all the cars in the parking lot.
Another on Main St. in Ventura called Casa de Soria also has great food. Also don't know if it made it back.

Forgot - Ramon's Cactus Patch in Ontario on California St. and Holt Blvd.
All of them are family owned/run and HOLE in the walls. Great food at all of them at a great price.
So do a duck duck go search for any of them.

In LA, Lucy’s at the corner of Venice and La Brea. They have good fried tacos. I think much better than Tito’s. Lucy’s also has a great chill relleno burrito.
|
|
If you like al pastor tacos, head to the corner of Figueroa and Vernon, in the Ross parking lot. They make their corn tortillas on the spot.
