Not really worried about it and since I've had to come back to Austin to tcb here, masks are still optional so won't be wearing one anytime soon.
My advice stop listening to all the 'fear porn' and do what you do.

I was quite ready to get back into the action here. I reached out to a few ladies, recently. The Delta variant has given me pause. Even fully vaccinated people can become infected with the variant.
My job does weekly, mandatory testing. Half the building works from home. The remaining, like me, work in offices with the door closed, and masks are required when out of the office. Employees are supposed to be fully vaccinated. However, someone tested positive, and was sent home last week.
At my old job, I learned that a former coworker spent three months in a hospital after catching Covid-19 last year.
I may need to wait again, or see UTR safety ladies.

Just another flu….
… three of my vaccinated coworkers got Delta and have been self-quarantined.
They were setting up for a photo shoot and the client arrived early to check on things and went into the stage space unmasked, despite her office being made aware of the safety needs. 10 minutes of exposure, tops.
But of course she had Delta, and passed it along.
She’s in the ICU, so is her family and receptionist, and my marketing crew is fucked for the next 3 weeks.
Just another flu… dumbasses.

My advice is NOT to listen to Atticus Finch, who probably got away with just a mild symptom if he caught the virus before. NOT everyone was lucky and ended up dead, instead listen to scientists and what CDC says about the current variant.

I always find it ironic that we discuss Covid and the transmission of the virus when we all indulge in a vice where we not only have intimate contact with members of the opposite sex, not knowing who they might have been in contact with or if their previous partners were vaccinated or not. I know that most on here are not wearing masks while you enjoy and indulge you sexual desires..

Remember when America had a common enemy not too long ago ? Now the country is divided and politicians are health experts.
People will smoke cigarettes, drink alcohol, eat food with gmos and contain ingredients that where created by scientists not chefs, use cell phone that emits radiation but is worried about a vaccine.

I've had 30 fiends/relatives diagnosed with Covid 19, most recovered that had minor cases, 5 are long haulers and not recovered - none had pre-existing conditions, 3 passed. As I care for an at risk senior, I am always careful, even when it's "Standard" flu season.

I don't get why *ANY* mandate decisions are being made based on "cases" rather than ICU capacity or death rate.
If people don't want to believe the statistics, I can't discuss it with you, but right now, the ICU capacity and death rate aren't really spiking to any kind of really worrisome level. And (again, according to stats) with this high of a percentage of americans vaccinated, it's not likely to "explode faster than we can react" anymore.
Unlike many, I don't believe this was always a nearly completely political thing..... but it kind of seems like it's more political/PR driven now than ever.
BTW - the death/severe infection rate for vaccinated folks is supposed to be under 4 in 100,000. Even if it's off by a factor of 10 (or 100!), Covid is just not a risk for vaccinated folks - even with Delta proliferating.

I agree with dakegg as well and I saw the numbers on the NY Post... I cant beleive the CDC would come up with this guidance.
We need to base decisions on fatalities and hospitalization and not increased positive cases when someone may arbitrarily move the threshold on a PCR test.
Lockdowns and mask mandates regardless of vaccination status is not the answer.

The thing is, as it keeps spreading, it evolves into a variant that's even worse... which is what Delta is.
If you want to be selfish, don't wear your mask, and don't get vaccinated, but I will lobby for those unvaccinated people to be blocked from the ER when they finally catch it.
I'll be wearing my mask when I'm around others, unless there's a hot female tongue or hot pussy waiting to be licked... but since there are so many stupid, selfish assholes in public not wanting to get vaccinated, I'm wearing my mask in public to protect myself and to do my part for stopping the spread.
Oh, and if there's a hot female asshole begging to be licked, I'll take my mask off for that, also.

The thing with COVID, and
why it became a health crisis:Some people will develop into a fatal infection and die
in a very distressing way, lying face down with a tube
shoved down their trachea, ultimately suffocating alone

Some people will have no symptoms at all, and
unknowingly spread it to hundreds of others.
There is no test that can predict who will be in which
group. Fatal cases are in all age groups, and fatal cases
can rapidly overwhelm hospitals which impacts the ability
to treat other serious illnesses and accidents.
Due to the low profitability of hospitals, new hospitals are
not being built over the last several decades to match
population growth. The healthcare system is already
stressed to the max without COVID.
Here's an analogy:In 1941 America was rapidly escalating involvement in
the war in Europe.Then suddenly the Japanese attacked
Pearl Harbor, plunging us into a war in the Pacific, as well
as shoving us head first into the European theater.
In this analogy, the war in Europe is the "normal" state of
American health care, and being dragged into war with
Japan is COVID.

littles don't want to use it, I'm guessing they are scared

Being the US is still a "free society", theyll never force everyone to get the vax.
So we're left with vax touted as tested, safe and effective. Definitely not as effective as originally stated. Didn't they first say it was 95 percent effective of not getting covid at all? It seams now that the wording has changed. Now its effective only in not getting really sick. Seems like now the vaxxed are not only getting it but spreading it too.
We're likely to all end up getting covid to attain the elusive herd immunity.

Remember....way back 18 months ago. We need 2 weeks to help keep the hospitals from being overrun......
Now we no long worry about death rates, it is 'we must prevent every possible case'. That might take 2 more years....but hey, the stupid ass Democratic government will just print more money, give everything to everyone, tell landlords they have to allow their tenants to live rent free and we will be happy forever. And those of you who are under 60 will pay huge taxes for the rest of your lives to just pay the interest on all the borrowed money.

CDC reports that there is a 46.3% increase in hospitalizations this week over last.
It is also reported that of that group, 97% are not vaxxed.
I'm not anti anti vaxxer, I don't give a shit about what you do, I care that the non vaxxed burdening the hospital system is now infringing on all of our freedoms.

Remember to be careful with listening to 'percentages'. If I go from 1 to 2 hospitalizations, that is a 100% increase, but it is still just 1 and not statistically different than 2.

With everything that's been said I doubt there's much to add. I just prefer to err on the side of caution. That's the way I live my life so why shouldn't I approach the virus situation that way too. This whole virus exposure has shown me that there are way more people living in this country with varying views than I ever realized before. However, if they think living in America isn't the place they want to be they should try China, Russia or South America. I definitely think they'd be back and maybe we wouldn't let them in. Why else do many people in the rest of the world climber to live in the United States and get green cards......

Having worked in the medical field my whole life and had to wear masks while I worked it’s something that I was very used to. Can’t say I love it now that I’m retired but I do what I have to do to protect myself, my family, and the people I love!

It's global, it's endemic, it's highly transmissible and & it's evolving. Delta spreads faster than chickenpox and is more deadly than the initial strain. The next strain to replace it could be worse. COVID and masks aren't going anywhere.
We will probably end up with mandatory annual shots, and be like the North Asian metropolis's where masks have been a common site / requirement for years - and that was just against flu.

Also there are different type of masks. The simple mask that most people wear is designed to prevent you from spreading the virus. It is not a guarantee that droplets will not infect you but it helps.
On the other hand N95 type masks really do offer you protection from the virus. These masks are more available than in the past. They may take a bit of time to learn to breathe in but the added protection is worth it.

This is what we want as its far easier to get herd immunity. The deadly spikes of the OG covid have curled and folded in half. The spikes were the main reason it was so deadly

Its been fairly annoying coming on this site and seeing how many users want to parrot talking points of politicians and fox news like this virus is just a flu, and that somehow you are weak if you trust cdc guidance and want the vaccine (also while touting how fast the former president got things moving, so which is it? Trump did a great job to save the country, or the vaccine is useless and you dont trust it?)
But a lot of you are following real science, caring for your fellow man, and not just looking out for yourselves. Its super reassuring.
To anyone who doesnt want to wear a mask, and just wants to let nature do its thing, look at what’s happening i the south currently. Delta is more transmissible, and any survival stats are probably cuz of vaccinated people getting it and surviving it. And the idea that masks arent helping is because so many people refuse to wear them, if everyone just fucking wore them we could kill this thing
A couple years ago there was a bad strain of flu going around my work. I was vaccinated against it, and got it (which is always information shared - it doesnt 100% stop you from getting it, but its like a seat belt, dont wear it and instead of glass shattering and cutting you up you end up flung from the vehicle) and I was fine after a single day of staying home and feeling miserable, but a younger/healthier coworker ended up in the hospital for almost a week.
Just get the vaccine, you will be fine, better than if you got ANY strain of covid. Someone used a WW2 reference earlier, and while the vaccine might be the nuke, masking up is the same as enlisting to stop Hitler. Any motherfucker not willing to mask up to fight this disease is a coward and a traitor to their country.
