The fuck up that was Afghanistan was that everyone had their own ideas from "save the women" to "install democracy" to "get rich scams"
It screamed failure about a couple years in but nobody wanted to admit it'll be a Vietnam of our own making. Toss in concerns about al qaeda and you had a massive waste of time and energy.
That's an over simplification; it's enough material to have historians debate for decades. Gives Democrats and Republicans excuses to bicker for ages.
You had to have seen it roll up and fold because there was no willpower by the people; once you get that kind of rout by military forces it just cascades. Hopefully we--all of us in the United States--gets a clue this time.
On the plus side the Chinese are going to spending shitloads of money placating the Taliban or the Chinese are going to have lots of fun with the Taliban. The Russians are squirming over it.

President Biden did the right thing in getting the U.S. out of there. After 20 years, the Afghans should have had a plan on protecting their own country! My uncle served in Vietnam and he was never the same afterwards! To keep sending in troops and covering their ass is a big mistake. The other NATO countries left in 2015. The Afghan administration has basically given up without a fight, so let them deal with their current situation! No matter what the RePubicans say, Biden is NOT at fault! Remember, there were 3 presidents before him that could not do anything either to help Afghanistan!

What some of you are missing is that up until 6 months ago there was calm in the middle east. You had a number of Arab countries recognizing the Jewish state which was monumental.
Then a new President started talking to Iran, sent money to the Palestinians, thinks they want to ease sanctions on Iran,... allowed some money to be freed up...
Now we have terrorists back in business again.
Someone else had that shit bottled up and all Joe had to do was NOTHING.

That whole region of the mid East has and will always be in some sort of conflict since they don't recognize Jesus as the only true load and savior of the world. Sounds silly but most Christian majority regions don't have the history of this type of endless conflict.

If Trump would have won in November, the same thing would have happened. Republicans feigning outrage when they supported abandoning our allies in Syria and Northern Iraq are the height of hypocrisy. They supported Trump wanting to pull out as well. But they finally have something a little better than culture war nonsense to throw at the Dems.
We dropped over a trillion dollars on Afghanistan and thousands of soldiers lives. The truth is we never should have invaded in the first place. A colossal waste.
Having said all that....I don't like that it fell so quickly. I'm sure they had a pretty good idea this could happen. They should have kept a presence with air support permanently if they didnt want this result.
