Yes. Calling this an insurrection was a stretch to say the least. But it played into the corporate elites narrative of censorship, more national security crackdowns etc. The feds always file conspiracy cases to almost every federal indictment of any kind. Noteworthy there were no conspiracy charges of coordinated planning to overturn the election. This was essentially a 3 hour riot . But punishment for the worst offenders is in order.

I bet not one person will be charged specifically with Insurrection for events on January 6. It is an extremely rare charge.
Most likely many of the people pleading guilty now are doing so because (1) they committed crime(s) and (2) they really don't want to get dragged into the pending charges for "seditious conspiracy" that are building for Proud Boys, 3%ers, and other groups.
