The first link however adds the y axis in the diagram, which is barely interesting, since there's nothing new there, as Libertarians have been using this type of analysis to better explain their political philosophy for many many years.
What's interesting is the placement of various famous personages within the quadrants.
To accept this means to accept 2 things:
1, that one agrees with the underlying reasoning for their placement, and
2, that the author actually READ every speech, essay, political position paper, book, etc by each of those people
Which we both know is bullshit.
Without agreement on placement of both famous old people and current political figures used.
The whole analysis falls apart.
Confirmation bias simply allows you to take on "faith" the underlying assumptions because you like the author's conclusion.
That's not sound analytical thinking.
I'll just leave it at that and not attach any judgements or name calling.

Stay at home orders...
It's been difficult measuring their effectiveness without models that make assumptions, particularly that drops in hospitalizations, cases, and deaths can be attributed to them and not other factors.
The old correlation isn't causation idea...
So we really don't know their effectiveness.
It's unrealistic to have done an RCT of these measures, but then at least then we would know.
As to their destructiveness, it's pretty clear that unemployment and the economy were hit hard, but are recovering now.
In terms of people. being afraid to get care for other diseases, affect on third world nations (TB, malaria), and mental health....no question they have an impact, although I do feel it's difficult to disentangle their impact with the impact of the pandemic itself.
This stuff needs to be thoroughly examined and studied so we have an idea of what not to do for the next pandemic.
I wish we had put monumental effort into a nationwide testing strategy -- testing 20 million a day with mass-produced, cheap 15-minute antigen tests -- with government funds issued during needed quarantines -- instead of these stay-at-home orders and closures. I think that new Scott Gottlieb book is going to tackle this idea and how we can be better prepared so we depend only minimally on these methods in the future. Maybe...

Your authors admit to great difficulty in separating the cause/effect of Pandemic vs. Lockdown effects making their whole thesis somewhat untenable.
However, that also makes the lockdown effect thesis untenable, if you trust the authors assumptions and measurements.
I've been checking with Rand, as perhaps the only think tank able and willing to go down this rabbit hole, but so far nothing.
I note that your authors were aware of counting drops in mortality from easily measured drops in activity. Less driving, less auto deaths. But this isn't helpful. If mortality is the only measure that matters, then almost all normal daily activity should be completely ended.
And, as you yourself have said, that's not realistic.
So, already that's a tacit admission that mortality is NOT the only, or even the most important, measurement criteria.

I would have never taken that postion because I was already aware of
the consequences of forcing a shutdown of the economy.

I'm still waiting for the data that justifies the policies of Newsom for CA
and De Blasio of NYC. Most of us know that it doesn't exist.

Biden administration moves to prevent a shortage of COVID-19 antibody treatments

The U.S. government plans to more directly control where Covid-19 antibody treatments are sent amid a surge in infections and hospitalizations in states with large pockets of unvaccinated people.
Hospitals and other care providers will no longer be able to directly order monoclonal antibody therapies from distributors, according to a Sept. 13 update posted on the Department of Health and Human Services website.
Instead, the U.S. government will determine what quantity of the drugs to ship to each state and territory based on Covid-19 case numbers and use of the treatments locally. State health departments will then determine how to distribute the antibody therapies to hospitals and other sites, according to the HHS update.

Two weeks after getting fully vaccinated, I saw a lady who I knew posted ads throughout the pandemic. She was highly recommended.
We had a drink before the festivities, and, at one point, she disclosed (I'm paraphrasing): "I never stopped providing during the pandemic. I would be shocked if I didn't catch Covid and that I didn't spread it to dozens of guys."
I was shocked at her cavalier attitude to potentially infecting dozens of guys with Covid, who could have brought it home to their families, friends, and acquaintances.
I think we all know that the number one priority of many of the women on this site IS NOT to protect the health and safety of those who they encounter. They need to work to survive and provide for themselves and their families.
This is a warning to the men on this site. You better protect yourselves.
And this is one of the reasons why I keep encouraging both the men and women on this site to get vaccinated. Be responsible. Even if you're infected and you're completely asymptomatic, you can easily spread it to your family, friends and acquaintances, who can spread it to their family, friends and acquaintances....eventually, a number of people are going to die and be seriously affected permanently.
This statistic has just been released: 1 out of every 500 Americans has died of Covid. This shit is serious. If hospitals are slammed to the point that they ration care, where we are now, these numbers will continue to get worse. Get vaccinated.

What does vaccination have to do with being safe on HX? Vaxing yourself does not stop the spread, as it appears up to 40% of new cases are in people who were already vaccinated...and they can spread it around just like everyone else.
Just like with the Spanish Flu and every other pandemic in history, you have to get it in order to get rid of it. Natural immunity is the key to defeating this thing. Shots are only prolongong society's agony.
Now before you go off and attack the messenger, be advised that I have hybrid immunity -- meaning that I had COVID, and then subsequently also got the Pfizer vax. I got the vax because I work around a lot of elderly people and didn't feel comfortable lying about that.
But I think the shots are a drop in the bucket compared to natural immunity...and any virologist or doctor who doesn't have money in the game will tell you the same thing.

From the start it was mentioned that as more people got vaccinated, the risk to the unvaccinated would increase.
It has always been known the the vaccines weren't going to prevent the vaccinated from catching Covid; it does reduce the likelihood that you will get infected with Covid if you are vaccinated. With the Delta variant, even more vaccinated people are catching Covid. The vase majority of the vaccinated are asymptomatic. This should worry the unvaccinated.
Mostly importantly, nearly 100% of those who die from Covid are unvaccinated. No one can argue otherwise.
Where the vaccines shine is that they prevent you from getting gravely sick to the point that you'll need hospitalization (and vaccination is definitely extremely effective at preventing death from Covid).
Vaccine effectiveness in preventing hospitalization after the vaccinated get infected with Covid:
- Moderna is 95%
- Pfizer is 80%
- J&J is 66%
Definitely seek out the Moderna vaccine. It is clearly the best of the available vaccines.

I don't want to post all day because I have work to do, but I have read many times that the natural immunity you get after being infected with Covid naturally isn't nearly as strong as the immunity you would get from being vaccinated.
From personal experience, I know two people who almost died after catching Covid the second time. One person, the wife of a childhood friend who lives in Orange County, was in a medically induced coma for over a week because of the severity of the pneumonia that she had. She could not breath without the help of a respirator.
Lastly, if you got really sick with Covid, the amount of antibodies you create will be much stronger than if you had a mild case. So unless you get your antibodies tested regularly, which I am sure no one is getting unless they are a doctor or a high-risk individual, getting vaccinated after catching Covid is really the only logical thing to do.
Obviously, don't take my word for it. Ask your doctor or healthcare professional; the likelihood is that they will tell you that you need to get vaccinated even after you had Covid.

One of my old GF's I still mess around with is on her 2nd go around with Covid....first the regular, now delta....she's cute, but dumber than a box of rocks....and chick I work with is out now cause her stupid fucking mother has caught it for a second time, and my guitar player from my old band who works as a palliative care nurse has got it AGAIN after catching covid pre-vaccine...and then getting vaccinated.
And save your "but he's vaccinated" bullshit. He is mildly symptomatic, no worse than a regular cold, and as soon as he felt ill they pulled him from duty and tested him and he has delta now. The vaccine is working exactly as they said it would....you can still catch it, but the effects will be minimized.
