Air traffic controllers had a general 'sick out'/protest against the vax mandate.

Pilot union already debunked the stupid tucker statement. Southwest simply imploded. They ran so slim those early Friday weather delays screwed then. Crew were stuck in cities with no place places to stay. They are still down hundreds of planes and just got bought up in a shit storm.
Same sort of thing happened to AA early summer. They had let all there close-to-retirement employees early retire during pandemic and then when people started travelling didn�t have enough employees to fulfill booked flights. Cancellations everywhere.
Usually the simplest most basic answer is the right one.

Southwest airlines openly lying about mass flight cancelations, even FAA contradicted Southwest's explanation...
"No FAA air traffic staffing shortages have been reported since Friday." an FAA spokesperson told FOX Business in a statement on Sunday
According to FlightAware, a website that tracks cancellations and delays, Southwest has canceled 1,018 flights and had 597 flights delayed on Sunday alone. On Saturday, the airline canceled 808 flights and had 1,187 flights delayed.

I'm not a SW airline pilot, and I assume you are also not one. I'm not in the SW pilot union, and I assume you are also not. I do not work for the FAA or SW airlines. I assume you also do not.
I do however, fly 70-80K miles per year, and I have been well aware (and suffered) of most of the staffing issues airlines have been dealing with this year. I'm not surprised at all at what just happened. And I have no reason to believe that because some talk show person pointed out a coincidence (nevermind that people who should know, have refuted those coincidental deductions) that all facts are now fake and that the world is lying to me.
