TIPS and TRICK for Dog Potty Training

Hi HX-er's

Instead of going to Google to get info- I want to do it the old fashion way, and plus get more relevant and applicable methods to dog training.

Here's the scoop:

1 year ago I Adopted a 1 year old chihuahua. (He is now 2ish)

He is potty pad trained. Which is great when traveling and I can leave him home and he will go on the pad.

I have a older chihuahua here who WILL NOT potty on the pad and must be walked 2-3-4 times a day to relieve.

My new dog the young one, doesn't hold his bladder and at any time will piss and shit. This little dude shits 5x a day. He's literraly a turd. The doc says he has over active bowel production lol.

Ok

So- I looked at the calender and was like ok we are a year into this and wtf I need to like correct this yesterday.

My neighbor says just walk, walk, walk

And now Whats Good is that the new guys know words like

Go for a- walk
Go potty
Go outside
Go inside

I can talk to him bout this.

Meanwhile.... his potty pad place in the house is the staircase landing. Upstairs is carpet and downstairs is flooring.

If i move the potty pad to the flooring which is better for aiming and cleaning then i have to worry bout his old 1 year bound potty corner on the stairs/carpet

Ideas-

Block the stairs up and down isolate the dog to areas which is good for obedience and not having free run of the house

But I can block the stairs (storage containers work well)

But I'm afraid he will just lift his leg.

I can be more PRODUCTIVE AND SERIOUS AND FOCUS and all day everyday set a timer for ever 2 hours? And use the potty words to go outside and go out front with him for relief.

I can block it off at night or I can crate him at night in which they won't soil in there bed

My older dog I know when he has to go- how long he can hold it- and it does tie into feeding times.

My new guys gulps water 24/7 he will go drink water and then go take a piss- typical dude.

Lol

I am fed up with potty pads purchases and carpet sprays and being on my knees over this dude

I have a nice place.
And I keep it nice.

So any tips let me know

Something I can slowly go into and graduate him in.

Thanks!

they eventually get the "No not in the house" idea. My yellow lab was keep indoors by the breeder and all she knew was to shit and pee in the house. Took me all most a year to break her.

Try to catch them in the act & sternly say NO! And put them outside, say “go potty” or something to that effect. Throughout the day asK, “do you wanna go outside”, take them out, put them in grass, & wait for them to go. After they go, get overly excited & give a small treat with a “good boy/girl”, & a pet on the head.

If they are still stubborn after a couple weeks or so, rub their nose in what they did (pee, not poop), but don’t be rough, just repeat, NO, BAD DOG! & repeat up above.

All my dogs learned pretty quick this way & I’ve had a few since puppies.

Oh I leave my dog home in the house 6-7 hours a day, never had an issue, & they roam everywhere. Try to teach your dog to walk along side you, no leash, just be stern in your commands to not let them wander.

Never walked a dog with a leash & always get a laugh when dog owners can’t control their dog, or it’s walking them, while my dog just sits looking at me, no leash waiting for his next command to walk or stay...especially when they are wearing a mask, & starring at me.. I can’t help but to say, lady, control your dog, take off your mask & TALK to it..

Never used potty pads..just take the time to train, those things make them think it’s okay to go in the house..& make the house stink..I’d throw them away.

Great advice
I been working on him all day

LoL It shall progress

I shame him when he think bout going potty on the pad..
He doesn't like it lol

I live around busy street so my older dog will chase skateboards- motorbikes- bikes.

In a park I can walk him off lease.

My older dog chihuahua as well
Jumped out of the car window and chased a coyote for few blocks- I ran on foot and almost wrote him off

The new guy.... he is learning off leash and is not crazy like dog #1

Dogs r my life I guess and then u guys

And I'm ok with tthat. I've learned to be ok
And made it ok

Saying "no" all the time they gonna think that's their name.

Remember praise over punishment !! Chihuahuas are very sensitive !!

Possibly more positive actions will prevail.

You're trying ya best Gina, talk to them like you would a human, lol, but confidentiality, you certainly have that ability !!

Good luck sweetie !!

they sleep in a kennel/crate most of the night...depends on my own sleep schedule...sometimes only need to be in there for a few hrs or sometimes a full 8hrs

during the day? easily 4hr stretches of being in there if we are gone...otherwise, they bark like MF's

IDK, I have an 18 yr old Chihuahua & a 2 yr old Pitt/lab, & a handful of other dogs before them, never walked my dogs with a leash, they always walk right beside me since they were puppies. Just always stern & reward them when behaving obediently. Never had an issue..but all dogs are different.

Dogs are my life as well, aside from work, friends, dating, family. Hope you get them under control Gina, up above is great advice from everyone.

Cheers

Listen to Jizza and Davis..

my dogs are both rescues and they spent the first two weeks living outside on our patio before i;d let them in.
If they make any trouble they go out.
if my dogs go inside they will live outside until they get it.
