The long range solution must be to reduce the demand for oil, gasoline, etc. OPEC just now volunteered to help us out. So prices will start to move down.
Historically we have moved from different stages of production and energy It used to be only a short while ago that the economy rested on mechanics, etc. Now it is is based on electronics, with the profound shifts we see in our daily lives. We have gone from literal horsepower to gasoline and internal combustion. And we will move away from that soon as well.
We should not freak about about progress. Everything gets revolutionized whether we like it or not.

It is rising because too many fat americans keep buying gas hogs! So the oil producers know they can make buckets of money off americans. Five years with e-car and motorcycles, I have paid about $350 in gas and electric in that time. The majority of vehicles at dealers in my town are trucks that get about 20 mpg, so why worry about gas price?

ALSO.....we need oil. Not just for cars.......but to be used as cheap energy. Cheap energy is the LIFE BLOOD for the economy. Without it the economy can not survive.
And its not just that....oil is used in prescription drugs. Yup.....Rockefeller realized he could make MORE money with synthetic drugs versus other uses for oil. How about your clothes.....ALL of them are made with oil.....synthetic materials are oil based. Plastics.....etc.

Oil is the lifeblood of our existence.

That alone can NOT sustain a state when companies are leaving.
