She's lived a long time for a Yorkie.

I recently lost a 14 year old Cavalier. The only thing that saved me was my sister showed up with a puppy.

Easy to say tough to live out, but try to stay strong. These animals are part of our life and family. Caring for them the best you can is all you can do and losing them is like cutting off your arm. BUT you can and will get over it and in time love another animal just as much.

Find the best vet you can and stick with them.

I wish you luck and peace. Y ou are on a difficult path but you will get through it.

My 15 yr old Chihuahua was on deaths door. Barely was moving, always distant, etc. I changed his diet to “Just Food For Dogs”..was a game changer. Within a week, he was acting like a puppy again.
Lived another 3 yrs until an accident happened.

It’s worth a shot to try them out

I've had the same experience as davis1 with my 15 year old dog. Of course I also took him to the vet and is now on heart medication due to a leaky valve. But he moves like a puppy now

Yes pet food has been a big problem for a while now. A lot of recalls.

Even our cat was throwing up one brand every day for week. I had enough and went back to the other, no problem . She's about 15-16 now.

OP started out with the age of her dog, so.....

It's a sad reality that the unconditional love that we get from our pets doesn't equal most humans lifespan.

Veterinarian cost are so outrageous for certain procedures, when you're just trying to do the right thing for your loved pet.

I recently spent over a thousand bucks because one of my cat's got hit by a car, she's only 2 years old and I had to give her a chance, so I relied on the veterinarian's knowledge and I was grateful, but damn that's a lot of dough, especially since she's fine but different....

There's sooooo many stray dogs and cats that need home's & would gladly love and conform to any loving lifestyle.

As far as the food thing goes, I feel it's propaganda, I know many see improvement in their animals but the inevitable is just that, I know no one is going to like to hear what I have to say, but just paying so much $$$ to a vet or investing in different foods to keep them alive is a bit selfish in my honest opinion.

I'm sorry your dog is so sick, sometimes they know more what's going on with them, but they can't talk and tell you how much they're really suffering, do the right thing & just take care & love your pet.

the pain and agony of losing them.. actually a reason i avoided getting pets for the longest time.

vets seems to be scams in some cases requiring huge amounts for procedures not really recommended, especially for older dogs.

first two cats cost us 5k each to put down in the last two days of their lives

next two under 1200 for both combined...getting a little smarter

two dogs? we go the pet insurance and it works great....like 30bucks month per dog

paying off already with one on medication...would rather dog not needing it and pissing money into the wind, but that's the nature of insurance

get it for next pet for sure

Hope all ended up being ok with your fur baby ❤️🙏🏼

My rescue turned 9 end of last year . He’s still got spunk in him like he’s a puppy but with other things, I can see old age creeping up on him ! It’s more difficult for him to jump up into bed . I recently got doggy stairs that I put at end of my bed for him to take . I got lucky and found a vet after going through a few. I really like them and trust them as much as one could . Recently had a conversation about what would do when old age and health issues arise . I know I won’t take it well should anything happen to him . I wouldn’t want to keep him medicated and put his body through multiple surgeries if his quality of life would not improve .

Last year as we were crossing street in cross walk he was hit by a car who then drove off . He had a small gash under left eye that had to get stitched up . And a few month after had a hematoma in his ear that required surgery . Cost a few thousand dollars buy didn’t even hesitate . I think I freaked out more than him. Was scary situation and sad seeing him in any discomfort .

I’m not familiar with pet insurance . Didn’t get it . Maybe someone who has it can share the pros and cons

As mentioned above they become part of your family and your everyday life . Losing them feels like losing a family member .

Four dogs, 5 horses, all rescue. My oldest dog is 12, she's a Vizsla. Two German Short Hair pointers, and One lab. Horses are a Paint, A Thoroughbred, I found in a River bed that had been dumped. She was a race horse, and hadn't won a race in a year, and the owners dumped her.
Have a Pinto, A Draft cross, and a Buckskin. 3 of the 4 (not the racehorse) came from a killpen, where the horses were being sent for slaughter for their meat to send to other countries. I think the animals help us to connect better to each other

Not sure where you are located but many vet schools have low cost pet clinics. You might want to check that out.

A vet will want to do a senior blood panel and urinalysis, along with a physical.
That’s 400 to 800, depending on the vet and how much they think they can get out of you.

At 14, dogs are near the end. Tough decision.

After a diagnosis, such as end stage kidney failure or cancer, I do what I can to make them comfortable. When I see them suffer, I have then euthanized.
I had to do it last month.

Personally, I will no longer, shell out many thousands of dollars for an old terminally I’ll pet.

Thrive Affordable Pet Healthcare inside Petco is 1/3 the cost of my old vet.
They have a monthly plan that brings the price down even more.

Reality is your dog is old, so sadly enough, it might be time for a trade-in.
Good luck
