I was stuck on the 5 South earlier this evening and just jammed Steely Dan and enjoyed a scenario that I had no control over anyways
Perhaps some of the greatest songs ever recorded
Learn to work the saxophone
I --- I play just what I feel
Drink Scotch whiskey all night long
And die behind the wheel
They got a name for the winners in the world
I --- I want a name when I lose
They call Alabama the Crimson Tide
Call me Deacon Blues

Peg
It will come back to you
Peg
It will come back to you
Then the shutter falls
You see it all in 3-D
It's your favorite foreign movie
I like your picture
I keep it with your letter
Done up in blueprint blue
It sure looks good on you
And when you smile for the camera
I know I'll love you better
Hey nineteen
That's 'Retha Franklin
She don't remember the Queen of Soul
It's hard times befallen
The sole survivors
She thinks I'm crazy
But I'm just growing old
Hey nineteen
No we got nothing in common
No we can't talk at all
Please take me along
When you slide on down
Well the danger on the rocks is surely past
Still I remain tied to the mast
Could it be that I have found my home at last
Home at last
Well the danger on the rocks is surely past
Still I remain tied to the mast
Could it be that I have found my home at last
Home at last...
Rikki, don't lose that number
You don't wanna call nobody else
Send it off in a letter to yourself
Rikki, don't lose that number
It's the only one you own
You might use it if you feel better...
Are you reelin' in the years?
Stowin' away the time
Are you gatherin' up the tears?
Have you had enough of mine
Are you reelin' in the years?
Stowin' away the time
Are you gatherin' up the tears?
Have you had enough of mine...
Give her some funked up muzak, she treats you nice
Feed her some hungry reggae, she'll love you twice
The girls don't seem to care tonight
As long as the mood is right
No static at all (no static, no static at all)
FM (no static at all)
Over the years --- when we had turn tables --- I owned at least 5 copies of Aja and a Decade of Steely Dan... Played them so much that they'd start skipping after a few years... Then came cassette tapes and after a while they'd get all messed up, so probably owned 3 or 4 cassette tapes... Then came CD's and after about two or three years - they would start skipping on me !!! I can remember at least 3 CD's... But then came I-Tunes and next came Apple Music
Thanks Pete, once of the best concerts I've ever attend was Steely Dan at the outdoor Santa Barbara Bowl. Looking out over the city lights while listening to the songs, brings back some great memories.
^ That does sound incredibly awesome --- I love SB and the Central Coast
I have never seen them in concert
They're playing the Hollywood Bowl on May 27th 2022, but I don't do the Bowl cause their parking scenario sucks, and I hate getting stuck in there, but I just might drive down to Chula Vista and catch them down there the next night
idk if true or not but i heard that they were one of the few bands that didn't play live for many years because they didn't want to loose control of the tightness and quality of the sound that they produced in the studio, anyone know if true or not?

Actually they didn't tour because they hated it. They went out on their first, and last for 20 years, to support their first album - Can't Buy a Thrill, but hated every minute of it.
The guitar player on almost every album is also their producer - Gary Katz, hell of a player.
