Hate to inject some logic into this, but you do realize that the purpose of a patent is to protect something you create.
Why would you reveal something detrimental in a patent?
Why are you trying to prevent people from recreating it and then marketing it if it has something that is detrimental?
Oh, right. The scientists didn’t know that it was detrimental when they filed a patent to protect their invention.

For those interested, links are provided below to the full text and image files of the Moderna patent (U.S. Pat. No. 10,703,789) mentioned in the original post's link.
I haven't fully studied this patent yet, or its file history. But as a (semi-retired) patent attorney with some experience in biotech, I have a few initial observations (with a very brief discussion of certain patent law issues):
1) This patent was issued a little over a year after its filing date, which is fast, especially for an invention of this complexity.
2) The application is a "continuation" of an application filed in 2016, which previously issued as a U.S. patent. This usually means that it claims subject matter that wasn't claimed in that previous application, such as subject matter that constitutes a patentably distinct invention from that claimed in a previous application. Continuation applications are quite common. This could also help explain how the patent issued so fast: a lot of the subject matter of the application probably had already been compared to the "prior art" (basically everything that has ever been published pertaining to the claimed invention prior to its "priority date").
3) The application claims "priority" to a long list of other previous applications, going back to 2012, a number of which have also issued as U.S. patents. This technology has been in the Patent Office for a long time.
4) The issued patent is subject to at least one "terminal disclaimer", which means its term is set to expire at the same time as an earlier related patent, so it will be in effect for a shorter time than otherwise would be the case.
Since this tech has been in the PTO for many years prior to the release of the China virus, I'm skeptical that there's any connection between that and Moderna's tech. My bigger concern is that EXPERIMENTAL vaccines that use this tech haven't been adequately tested and may have unknown and severe side-effects. That, and the flagrant abuse of government power by the Biden regime and others in seeking to force this and other vaccines on the public.

Btw, the Covid jab does not fit under the definition of a vaccine.
This vaccine is f’n people up, & don’t wait for those “long-term” studies. There won’t ever be a long term effects study, because Pfizer and Moderna both unblinded their studies after three months and offered the vaccine to the control group that had received the placebo. Double blind studies are the gold standard for establishing causation, and now we will never have that medium or long term data. So when they say, “There’s no evidence that mRNA vaccines cause [bad thing that vaccinated people are experiencing]” that’s why. They avoided the opportunity to create the evidence.

I started compiling a list of the lies the media, Govt, AMA and big pharma have put forth, citing facts and links, sooo looong, but stopped. Would just be fodder for you to cherry pick line items citing your own sources and fact checker bots going tit for tat.
Truly it all boils down to trust. You trust the gov't/media/pharma complex that they have your health and safety in mind. Potentially understandable for some folks because the media distorts, omits and even censors info. You would have to overcome that inertia and take initiative.

The article also states that many influenza cases are never reported on the death certificate due to it being so common so in theory deaths attributed to influenza could be far worse.
