Locked. No further comments permitted.Airlines want to end mask mandates…Guess who is NOT following Science
Dec 16 2021 08:14AM more by Waterdisport22

The CEO of Southwest Airlines claimed in a Senate hearing that wearing masks to stop the spread of Covid on flights is excessive, and argued that air filtration systems make planes the safest indoor space to be in.

Southwest Airlines CEO Gary Kelly made the claim during a Senate hearing on Wednesday, on the financial support US airlines received during the Covid-19 pandemic.

After Delta Air Lines Executive VP John Laughter and United Airlines CEO Scott Kirby testified that the air on aircraft with HEPA filtration systems is the safest you can possibly breathe in an indoor environment, Republican Sen. Roger Wicker questioned whether Americans would ever be able to get on planes without wearing a mask again.

Boasting that 99.97% of airborne pathogens are captured by HEPA filtration systems, Kelly said, “I think the case is very strong that masks don’t add much, if anything, in the air cabin environment. It’s very safe, very high quality compared to any other indoor setting.”

American Airlines CEO Doug Parker agreed with Kelly’s statement, adding, “I concur. The aircraft is the safest place you can be. It’s true of all of our aircraft, they all have these HEPA filters and the same air flow.”

READ THAT AGAIN......99.97% Hepa Filters on planes....and now read below.

Pete Buttigieg was forced to respond this morning.

Transportation @SecretaryPete on airline mask mandates: "Look, I think we're all impatient with them. I get that, I feel that. Obviously, I travel a lot. But especially at a time when we still have uncertainty with new variants, it makes sense to air on the side of caution." pic.twitter.com/NjM8Crv6HM

— The Hill (@thehill) December 16, 2021

Now WHO is following the SCIENCE????? CEO's or Pete?

Sooo Pete VARIANTS can pass through these filters.....show me the SCIENCE.

There is non....making it up as they go along.....for the whole SCAMDEMIC.

Comments: Not mine

The mask is a mark of who’s obedient. It’s a human leash

What an idiot. It’s “err” on the side of caution unless he was trying to be funny. And we’re not amused.

No Buttgiggles, it makes sense to err (not “air”) on the side of liberty. That’s kind of the point of this nation.

Who is the TSA to mandate anything? We need to look behind the curtain and realize that it’s just a bunch of know nothing bureaucrats who can’t make it in the competitive world. One of the gravest issues facing the Republic is all the alphabet agencies “mandating” shit under the color of law. It’s Congresses fault. Until Congress reigns in these people they are going to mandate our country into the grave.

Masks don’t work. I have refused to wear one since this Plandemic started. People with masks and vaccines are still getting sick…what’s the point?

You idiot. There is NO uncertainty on variants. They are mild, per EVERY study, report, research done around the world, including that masks don’t stop the 100 micron diameter corona virus passing through the 1200 micron hole in every thread count. Its like using a chain link fence as a bullet proof vest.

But I don’t expect you to comprehend that Mama Buttigieg.

Does he wear one flying on Air force 2? Or any other government aircraft? What is his background in clinical study? What research study is he citing?

A few comments.

This analysis doesn't include being cramped in with people boarding or deplaning on the plane, at the gate, or especially at the passenger boarding bridge. The last plane ride I was in, I was stuck in the passenger boarding bridge crammed with people with poor air filtration for like 10 minutes. I was very happy to have worn my KN95 there.

Furthermore, it's not necessarily true that transmission doesn't occur on a plane. For example, when cases were high in India, at least 49 passengers on a flight from New Delhi to Hong Kong tested positive for COVID-19. "The calculated maximum individual infection probability (without masks) for a 2-hour flight in [the mid-aft cabin section] varies from 4.5% for the ‘Mild Scenario’ to 60.2% for the ‘Severe Scenario’ although the corresponding average infection probability varies from 0.1% to 2.5%. For a 12-hour flight, the corresponding maximum individual infection probability varies from 24.1% to 99.6% and the average infection probability varies from 0.8% to 10.8%."

"[If] all passengers wear masks throughout a 12-hour flight, the average infection probability can be reduced by 73% with high-efficiency masks and 32% for low-efficiency masks."

One activity that would increase transmission is taking everyone's mask off at the same time to eat. Bad idea. You might as well do that while others aren't eating.

But the infection rate would not go down with masks on planes whatsoever..masks don’t work for airborne pathogens. That’s why we wear respirators that filter airborne pathogens.

EXACTLY Davis....

@NR.....ffs

What part of it DOES NOT WORK do you not understand.

If the size of the particle can easily go through the mask material then why again would any sane person wear one?

The SCIENCE says it does not work....WHY because the material can NOT stop a virus. It NEVER will.....EVER.

Its really that simple NR....seriously.

But you completely disregard this fact and spout off as you do.

If it did work because the material will stop a virus....then by all means wear one.

Again....why do labs that work on virus's wear a space suit?

I mean by your logic they could wear a simple surgical mask......

You just past dumb and moving quickly into the stupid category....please use your brake pedal.

“You just past dumb”.

If you can’t even use simple English, I wouldn’t be calling other people dumb.

I gave you mechanistic reasons and evidence in a previous blog about the plausibility of masks working to decrease the probability of viral infection. You responded to none of it directly. You instead countered that countries without mask mandates do better, which is a silly argument since any comparison is ridiculous when you aren’t controlling for other factors that add a lot of noise to the data. Nevertheless, there are some time-dependent analyses that compare mask use in different states to the changes in trajectories of new cases and show masks may be effective.

The evidence in all honesty is mixed, but just as we can’t prove that masks work, we can’t prove that they don’t either. And since they are such a small burden, unless people CHOOSE to make them a burden for psychological or political reasons, why not use them? I’m not calling for mask mandates. All I’m saying is that it’s reasonable to use a mask — particularly a mask that produces a seal — to decrease the odds of getting COVID.

Evidence isn’t mixed.. not a single state or country had a decrease in rates/cases once mask mandates were issued.

So if the virus is .125 microns and N95 masks have pore holes of .3 microns and surgical masks have pore holes ranging from 16 to 140 microns and droplets around .2 microns can be atomized and have a hang time in cloud form for 6-40..this isn’t complicated to figure out..

The evidence is mixed. I can show you here a different study that shows masks were effective at decreasing case trajectories when using information from all 50 states. The paper you cite averages out the temporal effects, washing out the signal with a noisy background. See link.

And the aerosol particles the virus travels with are 0.25 to 1 micron in size. And N95, surgical, and special cloth masks have been show empirically to block particles of this size. I have pointed to articles in previous blogs about this. See link.

An infected person produces in 30 minutes only 50 aerosol particles that have virions attached. Most of these will be blocked by the masks I mentioned. This can decrease the probability of infection, which isn’t zero, but is significantly reduced in this relatively low concentration environment.

I’ve sourced this all before. See link.

@NR-Your first link spoke of blocking droplets..not airborne pathogens

Your second link states..

“This report provides real-world evidence of SARS-CoV-2 RNA suspended in submicrometer particles in the air and deposited on surfaces in two hospitals. The investigators did not test whether the sample viruses were infectious or provide direct evidence of airborne transmission. ”

If you want to wear a mask, ok.
But if you don't want to wear a mask that should be ok too.
After all it's the elderly who are dying of covid and not the young and
working people. Yet it's the children, workers and business owners
whose lives are being wrecked when the probability of dying of covid-19
is less than 1%.
Meanwhile members of Congress, homeless and illegals are exempt
from taking the vaccine.
These government policies are a joke.
Many of the red states have moved on, months ago.
But not CA and NY.
Now the government is trying to stop the spread of the virus.
It hasn't worked and yet the government insists that their policies
are working. What a joke!

Anyone believe we will still have covid restrictions by the mid-terms
next year?

Waterdi,
Sport, you cant even cherry pick your conformation. Biased data very well, can you?
Does the virus sprout wings and fly around as a .1 nanometer object? No. It has to attach to something like one of your big spit balls or boogers, which a mask WILL trap.

They never tell or show anyone the air flow path inside the cabin area.

Hell I've built DC-9's which became MD-80', DC-10's to MD-11's and the USAF's C-17's and couldn't even tell you where these filters are located. Although I think MD-80's I know.

But still the air flow path ? Ok we know those over head nozzles the air come out there, but where and is its path to the filter ?

I have to agree with RK on this as he knows better than I.

Personally I'd rather have some perceived protection, even if its 10% or less, than none at all.

I mean really, what the hell did everyone do during past cold and flu seasons. You just took your chances, did you not ?

My 2 cents:

1) Masks DO work for the most part. It's the aerosol particles that they are blocking and the aerosol particles that infect you. Unless you can link me to a science article that says a single "100 micron diameter corona" particle is enough to infect you?

2) The reason cases don't appear to drop or rise all that much with mask mandates is (imho) likely because people aren't getting infected while shopping at their local Target or Costco, but rather they're getting infected at backyard hangouts and kickbacks with family and friends where no one is going to wear one.

3) Masks inside of planes are stupid. If you're going to wear one inside a plane, then be consistent about it. That means you cannot take it off at all. Once you let people take it off for eating and drinking, it defeats the whole purpose.

4) It's not a scamdemic in that the virus is fake. It's very real. But they're milking it and have been from the start. No one (in MSM) ever reported about how most covid patients lacked vitamin D and therefore should tell you to go out, be active and get some sun. They instead always told us to stay at home indoors (which is where most of the transmissions occur). It's always don't do this, don't do that and never "do this because it helps boost your immune system" and "do that because your body needs more of it"etc.

5) Vaccine mandates are dumb. I would understand it if it's been proven to stop transmission and infection but it doesn't. But if all it does is lower transmission and infection and hospitalizations, then all it should be is a recommendation. I'm fully vaxx'd but I do agree that we should just go on with our lives. It's all scare tactics now. When the virus was bad, they would mention hospitalizations. When that dropped, they simply mention cases. Omicron, based on studies, is very transmissible, but is also quite mild. So like clockwork, they only report total cases and not hospitalizations. They never ever give you the full picture.

@yk2wb-Sure no problem, I can only do 3 at a time so here are the first three..

Aerosol transmission of influenza A virus: a review of new studies
Raymond Tellier. J R Soc Interface. 2009.

“This distinction of ‘short-range aerosol transmission’ is not merely academic; aerosolized particles would readily penetrate or circumvent ordinary surgical masks, and penetration of aerosolized influenza viruses into the LRT where they can initiate infection would account well for the association of aerosol transmission and severe disease.”

Link 1

Also, back in May of 2020 the CDC released the results of 14 individual studies conducted by various universities and medical institutions on the effectiveness of the mask in preventing the spread or preventing contracting the influenza virus, which is 220 nm's on average. The results were all the same. Neither did the mask slow down or prevent the spread of the virus nor did it prevent or slow down the infection rate of the virus. So if the masks do nothing for the influenza virus why would it be effective against a much smaller virus?

CDC Volume 26, Number 5—May 2020 Nonpharmaceutical Measures for Pandemic Influenza in Nonhealthcare Settings—Personal Protective and Environmental Measures

“In our systematic review, we identified 10 RCTs that reported estimates of the effectiveness of face masks in reducing laboratory-confirmed influenza virus infections in the community from literature published during 1946–July 27, 2018. In pooled analysis, we found no significant reduction in influenza transmission with the use of face masks (RR 0.78, 95% CI 0.51–1.20; I2 = 30%, p = 0.25)”

Link 2

Third-Use of surgical face masks to reduce the incidence of the common cold among health care workers in Japan: a randomized controlled trial

“Conclusion: Face mask use in health care workers has not been demonstrated to provide benefit in terms of cold symptoms or getting colds.

You can also look up

Scott Scientific Study:The Science is Conclusive: Masks and Respirators do NOT Prevent Transmission of Viruses
Dr. Denis G Rancourt, PhD

I’ll post more, but if you knew basic physics, viruses spread through aerosol transmission & only low infectious dose is needed. The main transmission path is long-residence-time aerosol particles (< 2.5 μm), which are too fine to be blocked, and the minimum-infective dose is smaller than one aerosol particle.
The reason workers in a virus lab wear moon suits, go through multiple sets of sealed doors with decontamination procedures before that suit is removed and breathe pressurized outside air while inside the lab is that these are facts and said virus -- any virus -- will go right through any "mask."

More studies..btw the ones that Nite-Rider posted as I went through them in the previous post, it showed that masks were of no benefit & testing was not adequate
Valid attempt though

Here are more

“Facemasks in the COVID-19 era: A health hypothesis”

“The physical properties of medical and non-medical facemasks suggest that facemasks are ineffective to block viral particles due to their difference in scales [16], [17], [25]. According to the current knowledge, the virus SARS-CoV-2 has a diameter of 60 nm to 140 nm [nanometers (billionth of a meter)] [16], [17], while medical and non-medical facemasks’ thread diameter ranges from 55 µm to 440 µm [micrometers (one millionth of a meter), which is more than 1000 times larger [25]. Due to the difference in sizes between SARS-CoV-2 diameter and facemasks thread diameter (the virus is 1000 times smaller), SARS-CoV-2 can easily pass through any facemask [25]. In addition, the efficiency filtration rate of facemasks is poor, ranging from 0.7% in non-surgical, cotton-gauze woven mask to 26% in cotton sweeter material [2]. With respect to surgical and N95 medical facemasks, the efficiency filtration rate falls to 15% and 58%, respectively when even small gap between the mask and the face exists [25].”

“A meta-analysis among health care workers found that compared to no masks, surgical mask and N95 respirators were not effective against transmission of viral infections or influenza-like illness based on six RCTs [28]. Using separate analysis of 23 observational studies, this meta-analysis found no protective effect of medical mask or N95 respirators against SARS virus [28

Link 1

Now before the mouth breather say, “B..but that study was retracted”..the retraction had NOTHING to do with the data & conclusions of the study, it was retracted because of a completely irrelevant reason

Second-“Masks Didn't Slow COVID Spread: New Study“

“New findings reported Tuesday in a University of Louisville study challenge what has been the prevailing belief that mask mandates are necessary to slow the spread of the Wuhan coronavirus. The study notes that "80% of US states mandated masks during the COVID-19 pandemic" and while "mandates induced greater mask compliance, [they] did not predict lower growth rates when community spread was low (minima) or high (maxima)." Among other things, the study—conducted using data from the CDC covering multiple seasons—reports that "mask mandates and use are not associated with lower SARS-CoV-2 spread among US states."

Link 2 -the actual study is within the article

Third-you can break down the data yourself, in all of UK (and the world, we can go state by state or by country if you like) there was no change in cases or deaths when face masks were implemented in all of the UK

First- “Why Face Masks Don’t Work: A Revealing Review”

“Through the use of highly sensitive instruments it is now appreciated that the aerosols transmitted from the respiratory tract due to coughing, sneezing, talking, exhalation and certain medical and dental procedures produce respiratory particles that range from the very small (less than 5 microns) to the very large (greater than a 100 microns) and that all of these particles are capable of being inhaled by persons close to the source. 6, 11 This means that respiratory aerosols potentially contain bacteria averaging in size from 1-10 microns and viruses ranging in size from 0.004 to 0.1 microns. 12 It is also acknowledged that upon their emission large “droplets” will undergo evaporation producing a concentration of readily inhalable small particles surrounding the aerosol source. 6

The historical terms “droplet infection” and “airborne transmission” defined the routes of infection based on particle size. Current knowledge suggests that these are redundant descriptions since aerosols contain a wide distribution of particle sizes and that they ought to be replaced by the term, “aerosol transmissible.” 4, 5 Aerosol transmission has been defined as “person –to – person transmission of pathogens through air by means of inhalation of infectious particles.” 26 In addition, it is appreciated that the physics associated with the production of the aerosols imparts energy to microbial suspensions facilitating their inhalation. 11

Disposable face masks usually consist of three to four layers of flat non-woven mats of fine fibres separated by one or two polypropylene barrier layers which act as filters capable of trapping material greater than 1 micron in diameter. 18,24,28 Masks are placed over the nose and mouth and secured by straps usually placed behind the head and neck. 21 No matter how well a mask conforms to the shape of a person’s face, it is not designed to create an air tight seal around the face. Masks will always fit fairly loosely with considerable gaps along the cheeks, around the bridge of the nose and along the bottom edge of the mask below the chin. 21 These gaps do not provide adequate protection as they permit the passage of air and aerosols when the wearer inhales. 11,17 It is important to appreciate that if masks contained filters capable of trapping viruses, the peripheral gaps around the masks would continue to permit the inhalation of unfiltered air and aerosols. 11

“Masking lack of evidence with politics“-again the link to 6!studies are within the article

“Despite the clear requirement to carry out further large, pragmatic trials a decade later, only six had been published: five in healthcare workers and one in pilgrims. 3 This recent crop of trials added 9,112 participants to the total randomised denominator of 13,259 and showed that masks alone have no significant effect in interrupting the spread of ILI or influenza in the general population, nor in healthcare workers.”

The last one I will provide is an article that goes through 12 different studies from around the world (including the US) showing the ineffectiveness of face masks

Obviously, if the person next to is unmasked and breathing on you, some heppa filter 10 feet away in an air duct does you little good. They are still breathing on you.

I suppose the heppa filter does help protect you from the guy with the coughing fit on the other side of the plane.

Yea because a pressurized cabin filtering out air & releasing clean air is totally the same as a mask that viruses have no problem passing through..including your N95 mask.

Again..masks don’t work for airborne pathogens. That’s why we wear respirators that filter airborne pathogens.

I just had to fly cross country and back. The thought of wearing a face mask, my face sweating, and breathing my own carbon dioxide over and over again is excruciating.

Am I vaxxed? Yes, it was required to keep my job intact. Did I already have The Cove? Yes, I did. So, why am I wearing a mask again???

My solution was to make it appear as if I was wearing a mask when I wasn't.

I got a black disposable mask. They consist of three layers -- the front fabric, a middle "filter" and the back side fabric. So I removed the back side fabric. Then the middle filtration fabric, only leaving the front. It is very free breathing. It's a little thin and it kind of shows in bright light, but in the low level lighting situations of a commercial aircraft, no one could tell!!!

Here we are in the throws of the Omicron variant -- everyone's getting it. And after 10 hours of cross country flight with, in essence, no face mask, here I am, alive and kicking.

Sorry liberals. Your permanent crisis scenario has lost it's legs.

"@NR-Your first link spoke of blocking droplets..not airborne pathogens

Your second link states..

“This report provides real-world evidence of SARS-CoV-2 RNA suspended in submicrometer particles in the air and deposited on surfaces in two hospitals. The investigators did not test whether the sample viruses were infectious or provide direct evidence of airborne transmission. ”

C’mon man.."

No, these were the complete set of aerosol particles that had evidence of the virus in them. No evidence of single virus particles not suspended in aerosols. A subset of these particles are the ones that are going to be infectious.

There never has been direct evidence of airborne transmission that I know of.

@NR-Your first link combined, stay at home orders, mask use, & ban on public gatherings to conclude case & death drop..

“The associations between NPI adoption and subsequent decreases in case or death velocities were estimated using generalized linear models accounting for weekly variability shared across states. State-level NPI policies included: stay at home order, indoor public gathering ban (mild >10 or severe ≤10), indoor restaurant dining ban, and public mask mandate.”

@NR-your second link only said a better mask was necessary because the current ones don’t work..

“Our studies also imply that gaps (as caused by an improper fit of the mask) can result in over a 60% decrease in the filtration efficiency, implying the need for future cloth mask design studies to take into account issues of “fit” and leakage, while allowing the exhaled air to vent efficiently. Overall, we find that combinations of various commonly available fabrics used in cloth masks can potentially provide significant protection against the transmission of aerosol particles”

But they never tested “a better mask”..because the only “mask” that would work would be a gas mask..

“This report provides real-world evidence of SARS-CoV-2 RNA suspended in submicrometer particles in the air and deposited on surfaces in two hospitals. The investigators did not test whether the sample viruses were infectious or provide direct evidence of airborne transmission. Still, the findings raise further concern that airborne transmission might be contributing to the rapid spread of COVID-19 and support intensive disinfection of bathrooms and areas where protective apparel is doffed; they also support wearing face masks in public areas.”

Disclaimer attached to dicklessm1 citation about mask study.

While the study itself does exist, those spreading the story ignored a very clear disclaimer accompanying it on MedRxiv:

This article is a preprint and has not been peer-reviewed. It reports new medical research that has yet to be evaluated and so should not be used to guide clinical practice.

The site further informs readers that they should know that articles on medRxiv have not been finalized by authors, might contain errors, and report information that has not yet been accepted or endorsed in any way by the scientific or medical community.

It is pretty simple. 96% of American doctors have been vaccinated. If you consulted 100 doctors about your symptoms and 96 of them said you had cancer and 4 said you did not what would you believe?
If your answer is believing the 4 that means you are an idiot. There really is no other explanation.

There are no atheists in foxholes and there are no antivaxxers in the ICU. When that tube goes down your throat you will all have the same look of terror in your eyes that they all have. Without exception.

Peer review the peanuts outta my turds .... the aholes at cdc and nih haven't been in a clinic or seen a patient for decades but meet meet regularly with Big Pharma..... why would anyone be surprised when for decades we heard masks aren't effective to now people saying the opposite. It furthers the panic and reinforces the narrative that we are in danger.

Some of us are and most of us aren't. In danger that is and the work being put in to refute possible therapeutics in favor of what's in the pipeline is just plain obtuse and reveals a craven predeliction for maximizing fear and anxiety throughout the population. You blamed the last president for lying when you say he downplayed it but say nothing about the constant fear mongering we are living with today.

Yay your team. This is what winning looms like?!!!

@Davis: I don’t understand your logic, with all due respect. Multiple regression is the natural way to see which mitigation measures work during these time/dependent measurements, particularly since multiple mitigation measures are being used at the same time. Granted, there are more degrees of freedom with these models, which means it may be easier to produce false positives.

I don’t know how to reply to your second statement, and I already replied to the third.

The truth is that our leadership now with respect to COVID seems no better than when Trump was President. It seems that neither party is preparing for these continuing waves.

No implementation on a massive scale of enough cheap antigen testing to test twice a week and isolate positives to prevent the closures we’re seeing in the Northeast.

Not enough emphasis on increased production of monoclonal antibodies and fast-tracking of Pfizer’s anti-COVID medicine (89% reduction of hospitalization of at risk people) to keep the hospitals empty and severe cases to a minimum. (Merck’s anti-COVID med sucks. Don’t recommend it. Second half of study showed no effect, and medicine increases risk of bad SARS-2 mutations).

Are there efforts on a mass-scale to improve aeration in public places? You don’t like masks, well at least do something like this.

Have we increased hospital capacity in case we need it this winter?

I mean this winter surge was PREDICTABLE. I predicted this in the summer.

To prevent a surge, I’d rather have a mask mandate that may work than to just put a thumb up our asses.

And vaccines…why aren’t we pushing harder to try to vaccinate the world? That’s really how we’ll get control over these waves. You can’t get control if so many people still don’t have immunity. And we need to plan to maintain immunity (like with boosters), something that natural immunity (with antibodies) can’t do because antibody levels here also wane (unless you depend on repeat infections that are significant enough to boost antibody levels —something that may not be so certain).

Finally, we do need to make better vaccines . Intranasal delivery is promising because of superior protective immunity along the mucosa, which should boost immunity from infection.

^ You must've missed the memo

IT'S OVER

None of those things you just listed will happen.
Because the majority of people will answer the poll with "yes, I care"

But, they really don't and there is no political will to do all that stuff on your list.
There will be no more Covid Manhattan Projects
That already happened to mixed results

It's every man, woman and child for themselves
And, were short on lifeboats
Time to rearrange the chairs

PS keep trying though, NR.

@NR-You cannot test the validity of facemasks if you include other variables that can effect the test subject...it’s like testing how bright a light bulb is bit hanging a black tarp over it so no light passes through.

They did not isolate for mask testing, instead they tested with multiple variables, in which of course if you keep people from seeing each other & in isolation you will not spread Covid -19..unfortunately you also introduce hundreds of other variables that will kill people faster than what you are testing for itself.

@NR-What do you mean enforce masks harder? I just showed you over 20 studies that they have ZERO EFFECT WHATSOEVER..please try to understand basic physics.

And no, we should not be pushing the vaccines..that’s how we got in this mess. Those variants..those are BREAKTHROUGH CASES..meaning they “broke through” the protection of the vaccines. Delta & Omicron were discovered in VACCINATED INDIVIDUALS. Antigenic shift (mutation) is a common normal biological function. Even though Cronavirus are considered more stable in this regard than flu/virus, nevertheless inevitably will occur within large population infection spread. This is precisely why vaccines have little to no chance of effectiveness for Corona type viruses. History has proven this true over and over. Corna vaccines are notoriously problematic ( mostly due to rapid weakening) and have never been successful.

HEPA filters trap particles for air that passes through them. They don't magically kill air particles passed between your seat and the guy next to you. It's astounding how this common sense eludes you.

I'll respond to the first study, since I think the dishonesty will be apparent. You took the first paragraph of the Discussion section and summarily ignored the rest of the review. Aerosolized particles penetrating the mask does not mean the mask is ineffective; it means the mask is not 100% effective. We already knew that.

IF it meant it was ineffective, the authors would not suggest that "These studies, and the physical properties of aerosols, suggest that in addition to PPE, several engineering control methods implemented in hospitals and other institutions could be beneficial."

If PPE was ineffective, then why would the authors recommend the use of PPEs?

All you had to do was to read a few sentences down instead of cherry picking one sentence out of context.
