There are a few traditions that have been revamped, just because I was getting tired of the same ol' stuff. In lieu of presents, we give to charities or sponsor families... who needs more socks, calendars, and scented candles? That said ,my wife gets her gift from me EARLY as she always seems to find something on sale right after Thanksgiving, She typically uses/wears her Xmas gift before December even begins. WTF??
Just as your Xmas dinner is similar to Thanksgiving, ours was like that too, until about 10 years ago. I started making gumbo. I noticed how seafood, especially king crab legs were on special at this time of year .. and voila a new tradition was born, a tradition that is probably here to stay.
Happy Holidaze!!

Christmas is just another day.
A day off work because it's a holiday.
Sleep in. Simple lunch. Family will open presents.
Grandparents each have one,
Grown kids will have two.
Wife will have the rest under the tree.
She is very well done by friends.
Dinner. My gift to everyone.
Spend most of afternoon prepping.
Usually roast a bone-in rib roast.
Add a table of side dishes.
Wife might invite someone.
Always have leftovers.
Do dishes, pots, pans as I go.
Minimal dishes, plates, platters to wash.
I'll pack leftovers into Tupperware.
I'll go to bed.

I have a lot of siblings. We get together at my sisters and eat dinner on Christmas Eve. We let the children open gifts at midnight.
Last week we got together for tamale night. We make tamales, freeze them and will eat them on New Year’s Day.
11 brothers and sisters makes for a fun evening anytime we get together. And my dad is a healthy 94 and we love spending time with him while he still here!

Here's out tradition:
1. Because of our intense impatience, we celebrated last night, the 23rd.
2. We get a large, undecorated steel pole in place of an ornamented tree.
3. Every year, we put a clock in a clear plastic bag and hang it on the wall.
4. Our traditional meal each 23rd is meatloaf served on a bed of lettuce, followed by pecan pie.
5. But sometimes when we are too lazy to cook, we just bring home Arby’s Green Beef
sandwiches.
6. After dinner, we give everyone an opportunity to air their grievances from the past year. We do
this with everyone remaining seated at the dinner table, and all alcohol is temporarily removed
from the table. The airing of grievances is all about getting things off of your chest so that you
can feel better. Pick a few things that you’ve been wanting to complain about. Have everyone
take turns standing up and talking about what and who has been bringing them down.
7. We then participate in feats of strength. The head of the household’s job to select your
wrestling opponent at this point in the evening. The selected individual must pin down the
head of the household in a wrestling match in order to break down their authoritative power.
The person that you select can decline if they have a good excuse, such as having a broken
leg or having worked a double shift at work. Wrestling can be a little dangerous, so
sometimes we have another strength-based competition that everyone can be a part of. We
have also tried:
• Arm, thumb, or leg wrestling
• Board game tournament
• Staring contest
• Farting contests
8. Upon completion of the feats of strength, we resume consumption of alcohol and the celebration continues until one of the party goers vomits. The vomiting person is required to clean up their own puke, apologize to the group for ending the celebration. Then all remaining alcohol is poured down the train, and all visitors are required to drive their own cars home, notwithstanding their state of intoxication.
9. Wash. Rinse. Repeat next year.
