Did you actually read what they said...

They condemned the violence and assault on the Capitol....which is exactly what nearly every American has already done.....nothing to see here......They said nothing linking any action to Trump.

They could have issued this same letter after Antifa and BLM assaulted the Federal Court Building in Portland.....same difference.

People just have to blow shit up for their own fucking stupid agendas.

The Joint Chiefs typically do not speak up, but I don't recall the last time the Capitol building was under assault. Of course, they didn't speak up when the White House was under siege earlier, but still nothing to see here.

I don't know what you are smoking Jazz but that is the most out of body interpretation of what they are saying. Lets be exact. This is what they said "The violent riot in Washington D.C. on January 6, 2021 was a direct assault on the U.S. Congress, the Capitol building, and our Constitutional process,” the seven generals and one admiral said in an internal memo to troops, adding that the military remained committed to protecting and defending the Constitution.

“The rights of freedom of speech and assembly do not give anyone the right to resort to violence, sedition and insurrection,” the memo, seen by Reuters, said"

Yeah Jazz, exactly like what happened in Portland to a T. You think maybe they considered this a tad more serious? Maybe that little bit about sedition is a clue. You know, I'm just taking a wild guess. Meanwhile more and more is coming out about how well organized this was with intent to harm members of Congress. And now the FBI has sent out alerts to law enforcement agencies around the country to be prepared for armed protests. Well to all you Trump loving Yahoos your time in the sun has come and gone. You will have to find another psychopath's ass to lick.

Kudos for the Pentagon. Anyone with a brain should know that this is NOT who we are as a nation.

Yeah, the OP is off-base on this one.

The military is very careful to not to officially say they like or dislike any President or his policies. They want to spout off their political opinions, fine, but they must retire and give up the uniform first. Then they can have opinions like everyone else.

The military is not a political arm of the government. They are there to take orders, NOT to give their opiniions on our leaders.

And that is EXACTLY how it should be.

Shout -out to all my fellow military veterans, and a special thanks to the combat vets.

I keep hearing people talk of Trumps speech as inciting sedition via the violent riot.

Have any of you taken the time to read the transcript of the speech at the rally?

I have. Link below to hep you out

https://www.rev.com/blog/transcripts/donald-trump-speech-save-america-rally-transcript-january-6

I encourage anyone to show me the paragraph where the president used statements that incited the violent riot. If you are too lazy, I'll help you out - he didn't make any such statements.

Basically, the Joint Chiefs told the active duty and retired soldiers that they are supposed to defend the Constitution, not participate in sedition or violence against it.

so how does this figure in? maybe that's why there is NO hearing in the house on this shit

Capitol Riot Fallout: F.B.I. Warned of Violence Before Siege; More Arrests Made

FBI, NYPD told Capitol Police about the possibility of violence before the riot, senior officials say
The FBI visited more than a dozen extremists before the rally last week to urge them not to travel to D.C., senior law enforcement officials said.

Washington (CNN)The FBI warned of a violent "war" at the US Capitol in an internal report issued a day before last week's deadly siege, but it wasn't acted on urgently enough to prevent the domestic terrorist attack, The Washington Post reported Tuesday.
The Post said that last Tuesday, an FBI office in Norfolk, Virginia, issued an "explicit internal warning that extremists were preparing to travel to Washington to commit violence and 'war.'" The report "painted a dire portrait of dangerous plans, including individuals sharing a map of the complex's tunnels, and possible rally points for would-be conspirators to meet up" in several states before heading to Washington.

Maybe not externally, but heads will roll during internal exams.

Unless a whistleblower comes and lets more info out.

But right now cooler heads need a United front against insurrectionists and not give them any wedge they can pry open further.

prosecute the shit out of them...seems simple enough.

seems like they have a good start...AGAIN, the FBI is failing with all the tips...getting a little tiring

WE were very very lucky these dudes didn't have automatic weapons to shoot everyone up...kinda like that Florida school thing when everyone had tips beforehand of a problem and he shot up a school

I would refer you to the 3rd in line republican in the house Liz Cheney.....

"On January 6, 2021 a violent mob attacked the United States Capitol to obstruct the process of our democracy and stop the counting of presidential electoral votes. This insurrection caused injury, death and destruction in the most sacred space in our Republic.

Much more will become clear in coming days and weeks, but what we know now is enough. The President of the United States summoned this mob, assembled the mob, and lit the flame of this attack. Everything that followed was his doing. None of this would have happened without the President. The President could have immediately and forcefully intervened to stop the violence. He did not. There has never been a greater betrayal by a President of the United States of his office and his oath to the Constitution.

I will vote to impeach the President."

If it looks like a duck, swims like a duck, and quacks like a duck, then it probably is a duck. It was an attempted coup and he should be impeached and removed.

Actually, the prosecutor with the most experience going after this sort of thing already wrote that this doesn't rise to the level of a criminal offense that he could take to court and win.

That having been said, the optics are very bad and the Dems, obviously..........don't need a real crime in order to impeach.......just like last time.

Hell, they didn't even need a real crime to move on the Russian deal, there is no crime of collusion in the Federal Crimes list

Again, when will you dumb fucks get this thru your thick skulls, politics is the art of war by other means.......it's Hollywood on the Potomac for ugly people

Is there anybody uglier than Trump, Pelosi, et al???

Jeffrey Scott Shapiro, asst. attorney general of the District of Columbia
In the District of Columbia, it’s a crime to “intentionally or recklessly act in such a manner to cause another person to be in reasonable fear” and to “incite or provoke violence where there is a likelihood that such violence will ensue.” This language is based on Brandenburg v. Ohio (1969), in which the Supreme Court set the standard for speech that could be prosecuted without violating the First Amendment. The justices held that a Ku Klux Klan leader’s calls for violence against blacks and Jews were protected speech. The court found that Clarence Brandenburg’s comments were “mere advocacy” of violence, not “directed to inciting or producing imminent lawless action . . . likely to incite or produce such action.”

Impeachment has no requirement for an actual crime. "The President shall be removed from office on impeachment for, and conviction of, Treason, Bribery or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors." Clearly it's a political statement and not a criminal trial. The outcome will be political as well. He's gonna be impeached, probably not convicted & removed but one can hope....Then balls in Cyrus Vance Jr. court. And then probably a presidential commission that may or may not, uncover even more sedition and illegal pressure on republican secretaries of state etc.

Ummm, it does say High CRIMES & MISDEMEANORS, lol
But, it's become whatever the ruling party in the House decides it is
That's always the problem with the House of Reps and why the Senate exists

There were noises about impeaching Obama, Bush, et al going back as far as you can go
While the House is closest to the people, that's both a good and a bad thing
The Senate is there to cool the bullshit and make sure it counts
Happened with Clinton and with Trump

You still need to figure what happens with the 74m that voted for Cheeto
Even though he may be gone, those 74m need an outlet
I would've let them have Parler
let them blow off steam where it won't hurt anybody

Here we are eating our own while the Chinese and Russians look on with big dinner eyes
fucking idiots

Indeed. Sunlight is a great disinfectant. I wouldn't have muzzled Trump on social media. Just rigorously and visibly fact checked him. I understand it's complex but at the top level the first thing we need to do is tell the 75 million the truth. Repeatedly. I don't blame Trump, he's a useful idiot. I blame Murdoch et al. I hope I'm wrong but I think Trump was a trial balloon. Worse will follow.

Trump lovers will do anything he wants. They seem to want one party rule. If that's
what this is coming down to there is no compromise with the actions they've taken.

Trying to overturn an election to install the LOSER. Over 60 court cases tossed out by actual trump nominated judges. The extent of their evidence is a lawyer using hearsay, and inferring that..

"everyone knows of the widespread voter fraud".. and "voting machines programmed to switch votes." and the most idiotic statement.. " millions of dead people voted.."

You know if any of these voter fraud idiots did their homework on how elections are audited they could have come up with something better than convoluted stats. The crazy part of this bullshit fantasy is how hard it would be to find recently dead voters, collect their ballots, forge their signatures, and create a paper trail.

That may work if you only need a few hundred votes. But to turn an election tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands of fraudulent ballots need to be created. Of course in pennsylvania the only election fraud in the 2020 election was a Republican using his dead mother to vote for trump twice. The trump followers way to steal an election is to impose their will onto the majority.

Its very telling how republicans demonize dems. Child molesting lesbians, bribing minorities with things like school lunches, health care and a clean environment to cheat "vote" for dems. The way we win elections is to get more votes. Simple, easy, by the rules.

Republicans DONT have the numbers so they cheat. Gerrymandering, voter suppression of minorities, disenfranchising large groups of traditional dem voters, restricting access to polling places and voting machines. Lying to their constituents to vote against their own self interests.

Republicans only believe in democracy if they get their way, and compromise is for pussies.

I would say that Trump may not have EXPLICITLY incited violence, but you could make an argument of implicit incitement, which would combine what Trump said and what rioters will say about what they thought Trump was telling them.

From linked article...

Federal agents spent the weekend arresting people around the nation who were allegedly part of the mob that stormed the Capitol on Wednesday after President Donald Trump urged a crowd to "fight like hell" to overturn the election results. But many of those charged with crimes for their alleged roles in the riot can thus plausibly raise what is known as the "public authority" defense - arguing, essentially, that Trump gave them permission to do what they did.

Each day, more evidence emerges that Trump and other elected officials instigated this riot. The rioters were lured to Washington with Trump's promise that the day would "be wild." At the rally, Rudy Giuliani - Trump's lawyer and close adviser - called for "trial by combat." Rep. Mo Brooks, R-Ala., told the crowd to "take names and kick ass." Trump told the crowd, "When you catch somebody in a fraud, you're allowed to go by very different rules."

...

When the crowd arrived at the Capitol, the guards opened the door and let them in. Trump went back to the White House and watched the coverage. He was reportedly elated [a reaction which also may demonstrate intent]. That the rioters genuinely believed they were acting at the direction of the appropriate authority figures explains their mood as they posted selfies and bragged about what they were doing on social media. If you think of yourself as a soldier doing the bidding of the commander in chief, you don't try to hide your actions. You assume you will be held up as a hero by the nation.

...

The availability of this defense also makes it more likely that the instigators - including Trump - will face prosecution. After all, how would it look to a jury if the people who incited the failed insurrection go free, while the victims of lies and disinformation pay the price? Such an outcome is offensive to the idea of fairness and equal justice for all.

two things...if the FBI stopped some people from showing up on that day? did they think they got them all???? don't ya think the alarm bells would have went off with some communication to capital police/national guards/more security?

also they are saying his speech incited this? apparently the bad people coming into DC to do this (known by the FBI) didn't really care about trump's speech...they were going regardless

First, NR is still an idiot.

Second, so the FIB knew there was going to be violence at the Capital yet had NOT ONE agent was there to protect it. I guess they were too busy arresting Roger Stone in full armor or chasing NASCAR nooses.

(Capital Police Captain committed suicide after he was given the "Stand down Order," or did he know too much?)
