And just like the medical experts predicted, this shit has hit the fan. Hospitals all over the country out of ICU beds, health care workers exhausted beyond words working insane shifts. Flu deaths are way down this year because people aren't getting the flu because 1) social isolation 2) there is so much COVID everywhere.
Flu is not being mistaken for COVID as most places test for flu along with COVID
Flu deaths and COVID deaths actually look a lot different when they occur. Flu based pneumonia and COVID pneumonia look differently on testing and are relatively easy to tell apart.

Referencing deaths from multiple decades ago has no bearing on evaluating the deaths of the current strains of flu. And beyond that, Covid is blowing the numbers you mentioned out of the water by over 4X. Do you want me to do that math for you too? Really what is your point? This is the problem with our news outlets. They cherry pick their data. Flus from past decades are totally relevant. This is a once in a lifetime pandemic, so it needs to be put in greater context. You tried to downplay the impact of influenza. Fortunately, we do a much better job with vaccination so we don't have such terrible numbers. But we didn't have a vaccine for Covid-19 and we see the results.
Actually Jazz I'm not even looking at the media. The link was to the CDC. And it doesn't change the fact that Covid is already far deadlier than the flu you mentioned over 30 years ago. You seem to somehow still be trying to play down the severity of Covid despite the world's top epidemiologists preaching how much more severe this virus is than the common flu. Through August 5th there were only 7 countries that had a higher death rate from Covid. The US ranked 8th and this was before the fall when our daily death numbers went from around 1,000 daily to around 3,000 daily. In other words our numbers are now far worse and given that there are over 219 countries reporting Covid our performance is hardly anything to crow about. Regarding what is going on in other countries how is that even relevant. I'm interested in what has happened here and how our leader misled us and politicized the whole damn thing. He lied...get it...he bold faced lied to us or haven't you heard the Woodward tapes? I think some some of the numbers being reported to the public may be off. COVID is serious, and should be considered as such. I would be very interested in knowing EXACTLY how many deaths are due DIRECTLY to COVID. How many of these deaths are indirectly related to COVID, or due to complications brought on by COVID.
Numbers can be manipulated to a certain extent. Again, I'm not saying the numbers aren't bad, I just wonder if they have been manipulated to further some other agenda. For example: people against tobacco may manipulate the numbers to make it appear that more people die from smoking than actually do. Those against alcohol might try to point out more alcohol related deaths.
I know I might get some backlash about this, so before you all jump down my throat let me tell you that I recently had a friend with COVID pass away. So again, I do understand that COVID is very serious. But he didn't die from COVID directly.
Here's his scenario:
On paper, a healthy 37 year old white male. Middle of November tested positive for COVID. Due to this was required to quarantine and unable to travel to visit his family for Thanksgiving. While in quarantine he drank more than usual due to the fact that he didn't have much else to do. As it turns out he got drunk one night and shot himself in the head.
So what killed him? Where would all of you classify his number? Was it due to alcohol? Was is the shot to the head? Or was it COVID? If you are a politician trying to prove a point, his number might have just gotten tallied in three different places. Just something to think about when throwing numbers around.
