Been playing for 55 years ... here's by best advise.
1) Buy song book of songs that you know (that way you can self-correct if you play it wrong.)
2) Buy a "chord picture" book, that shows you where to put your fingers for each chord.
3) Take at least ONE lesson to learn how to tune up, change strings, etc.
I’d say pick songs that you like that also are pretty straightforward. When people focus on learning but aren’t playing anything they really like they get bored. I’ve taught a few friends some basics.
