I am not so sure Trump will fade into the background.
He feels humiliated and he will want to get back for that.
The last time he felt really humiliated was at a dinner where Obama ridiculed him mercilessly.
Trump's response? He became the President Obama had to turn the keys over to. Sweet revenge.
I would not underestimate the power of Trump's anger. And there WERE 70 million people voted for him. That is a LOT, even if you lose.
I sincerely hope I am wrong and you are right.

If the GOP does split up, the Dems are most likely to benefit, at least in the short run. Even Teddy Roosevelt couldn't get re-elected under the banner of a third party. In fact, it hasn't worked for any Presidential candidate in the last 150 years.
In the long run, however, the GOP has to get out from under Trump, even if it hurts them temporarily. He is too self-centered and too unstable to be tolerated as the kingmaker in their party. He is bad for them and I'm sure they are getting tired of him threatening to run candidiates against them in the primaries.
After a while, they have to either face up to the bully or just go put on their little sissy panties for keeps.

Trump and other fools have damaged the Republican party for a long time. Republicans standing with Trump know they're full of shit but don't want to lose financial backing. We narrowly avoided a dictatorship and people want to ignore what happened in the past four years. It's hard to believe so many people could be brainwashed by such an obvious conman.

For all of you....he is out of office!....he was impeached while in office. Republicans asked if Dems could delay the trial. Now they are using it as an excuse to not pay attention in proceedings and have already made their decision. Nevermind it was voted on...and was decided he could be tried...Republicans feel they can ignore that. It's like...I can speed because I dont agree with that law. They just wanted to add one more tiny bit of sore loserness to a banner year of sore loserness. Placing their own career above their party and country by bowing down and kissing Trump's ring.
