If it weren't for those "idiot grocers". You wouldn't be able to have food to eat.

Well that is true for the helpless. Some folks are self sufficient. Unless the well goes dry.

No, they don't deserve hero pay...they are at no greater risk than someone working at starbucks or Mc Donalds or the gas station...as for the tip jar...I only tip at restaurants that are a sit down type...I never understood the tip jar at starbucks or at the pizza place etc...they are not doing anything different than people working at Del Taco or Carl's Jr....and those folks don't get tips...

Take a realistic look in the mirror just before you take your once a week shower to clear the encrusted dingleberries on your flappynutsack, then tell me she/he/it/they/them don't deserve a little something extra.

Be honest

No, I don't think they should. I am happy they are doing their job, but I don't think their employers should be forced to pay them more.

First, I don't think government has the right to mandate that some workers in the private sector get paid more than others, when those workers are already getting more than minimum wage. That is a governmental overeach, even for a liberal like me. Only in California would you hear that, right?

Second, their jobs have been secure, unlike a lot of other folks. They are already ahead of the game.

Third, if you do it for grocery workers, then what about the checkers at Wal-Mart? What about the gal who sells you the Lotto ticket at 7-11 or the hammer at Home Depot?

Now everybody is a damned 'hero'. Overuse has greatly cheapened the value of the word.

@Reaper

Yeah, but those idiot grocers are unionized. They have collectively bargained high pay, and benefits up the ass for very low skilled workers.

And then the government of a city like Long Beach comes along, and wants to add an extra 4 bucks an hour for a grocery checker that already makes 22+ an hour?

If you were the grocery checker, would you be glad you had a $22/hr job during the pandemic? Damn right you would. Until liberal politicians come along and fuck things up...thinking they can pander to your union bosses by legislating you $26/hr, and instead Ralph's Grocery Company says, "Fuck that and Fuck You!" and they close all their stores in the city, putting a few hundred well paid fathers and mothers completely out of work...and forcing citizens to have to drive farther and pay more for their groceries during these difficult times.

Yeah. Smart move. And just one day after Ralph's announced they are closing their Long Beach stores, the fucking morons who "run" Los Angeles proposed a $5/hr increase for grocery workers there...

Politicians...they should be taken out back and __________.

I thought we were giving “hero pay” to all the people who are not working and continue not to work because of the free cash they get while on unemployment.

Ok when it comes to grocery store workers and how much they get paid I really don't care but look up Ron Berkle..... I guarantee you he won't be covering the hero pay and he is a verrrrrry wealthy man. A huge American success story but that money won't come out of the Grocery Stores budgets .... no way no how. His buddies in Washington will help him out.
