Locked. No further comments permitted.California has done as well as Florida at handling COVID...

...and California has had much stricter containment measures than Florida.

Read the attached article.

I will say things were definitely in California’s favor until they botched this second lockdown in December. If they had done it a month earlier, before cases became high, we probably would be looking at a different outcome.

It shows you how difficult it is to use solely lockdowns, masks, and social distancing to maintain a very low level of infection. If you make one big mistake during a wave, all the work you've done is basically gone. The result will be the same if you were less strict from the get-go.

To be fair, many people do voluntarily wear masks and social distance in Florida. But still, restaurants are fully open. No lockdowns. And most of all, the people of Florida haven't faced the economic and psychological downside of locking down like we have here.

It sucks to realize all this pain was now done in vain. What a fucking disaster.

Actually when I look at the numbers and take into account that 21% of Florida's population is over 65 years of age and only 15% of California's population is over 65 I would conclude that California ended up with a significantly worse outcome than Florida.

I’m not sure the numbers are a fair apples to apples comparison when one looks into the details. For example I would be curious to see how those numbers look at a more local county or city level with the context of population densities. Given that LA county (as an example) is twice a dense with five times the population, I imagine that would skew the general California numbers over the less densely populated parts of the state.

Not saying who is right or wrong, but approaches may need to vary based on the circumstance.

Thank you Night-Rider for admitting that all of the mitigation measures are now showing not to be effective.

This is what Trump said from the get go. He wanted to keep the economy strong and get vaccines as quickly as possible.

Unfortunately, many blue states didn't listen and crashed their economies. Now they are begging Washington to bail their asses out and it looks like the stupid Democrats are going to spend trillions to do that. All that needed to be done was use some reasonableness and common sense. Use controls, but don't lock down segments of the population that are at low risk of death.

Florida focused on its older communities for testing, controls and now vaccines.

Of course, I would love to see suicide rates, increased depression numbers, educational declines, crime, etc. numbers comparing the two. The losses suffered by California and similar blue states with lock down governors are immeasurable.

And the Biden administration seems like it may follow in the California model....I sure hope not.

When I checked 2 months ago, Florida had a higher infection rate per capita. Today I believe California is slightly higher. Arguments have been made because of this that lockdowns don't matter. However, California tests people at a much higher rate. You test more people and you will find more cases. (Remember Trump famously trying to hinder testing to help his numbers as if that matters in a pandemic) The infections were always there...you just dont know about them unless you test. So Florida, that tests less, has less cases. Also California has it's own mutation of the virus that spreads more easily that started sweeping through the state in late Autumn. CAL.20C, was first detected in July, and not seen again until October. In November it was spreading to other states. In late January it accounts for nearly 35% of all tested samples in California, including 44% in Southern California.

It's like comparing the overall death rate of NY or Washington or California to another state that didnt have to deal with this thing in the beginning when everyone was caught unprepared. Florida hasn't yet been swept by a new variant...but that is coming for everyone when they expect the UK strain to be wave 4 and the one that dominates the U.S.

In a country, that is ridiculously ahead of every other country in how bad we handled it though, it's tough to blame on a state level as Governors can only control so many things. They can't control people's behavior and can only advise and set good examples. They should do better controlling their own behavior. ie...Cuomo got caught manipulating data. So did DeSantis who arrested the whistleblower and raided her home. Newsome got caught attending a birthday party. etc etc

If you think the testing is skewing the numbers...then open your eyes and just look at hospitalizations and deaths. Don't think you can 'fake' those numbers.

I continue to see people on the left who just can't admit when they are wrong. Keep arguing...the numbers between the two more opposite states don't lie. Florida's economy is fine, they are in school, and their numbers are no worse than one of the most locked down states in the country.

I have all the respect in the world for night-rider. The guy believed what he believed and we argued back and forth. I respect him and his knowledge of the Covid-19 mess. But now that he is seeing the numbers, even he is admitting that it looks like the blue state response cost us far more than it needed to......

This guy really is as dumb as he looks, lol.

Trump could've and should've done a better job, you should be glad he didn't, because ultimately Covid cost him the election............not his abrasive personality. He could've won but in the end lost to himself........to be covered in another blog.

Remember early on when he said "I'm in charge"?
Well, no President is in charge of 50 states with 50 governors and the difference is very clear when you compare Cuomo vs. DeSantis.............governors make a huge difference............slice and dice how you want but as NR pointed out, Newsome fucked poor people in his state and caused even more homeless than we had...........and, don't even start with the EDD losing $30 billion

Even local pols make a difference, look at the schools in LA vs. the schools in OC...........nothing is open in LA due to the Progs sucking teacher union dick. OC schools reopened late last year. The ones that haven't reopened in OC? The 5 school districts with the highest levels of poverty and highest level of Prog influence..............

But you do you sucking on a nozzle

Before you make "looking at deaths" as your argument...you should probably know Florida has a higher death per capita percentage than California. You should remember that Florida did not have to deal with a first wave the way California and New York and Washington did. Remember? DeSantis was out there mocking New York for shutting down and bragging about his state...and then a few months later he was shutting down his state?

...and for the love of Gawd...please give up your TDS

He lied to America about how deadly this was going to be. With the exception of a PARTIAL ban on incoming people, he ignored this thing until March. He didnt provide PPE. He constantly gave bad advice and the wrong information while muzzling the CDC and his own task force. He gave out medical equipment and didnt track it to ever get it back when we needed it. He siezed state shipments of PPE. He made ignoring the danger of the virus a patriotic duty. He held super spreader events multiple times per week and his people made people take off their masks. He hindered Governors trying make improvements in their own states to protect the people. He told people to inject/imbibe bleach. He restricted testing efforts, tracing efforts, and mapping efforts....but maybe your right...I'm pretty sure he as the the President had little he could do.

^^^^Please show your sources. I am seeing identical death rates between CA and FL. And CA is still running above FL in cases per population and they are identical in tests per percentage of population.

And FL unemployment rate is 6.1 versus CA at 9.0. FL had an unemployment rate of 7.3 back in August, and CA was at 11.2.

Wow go balls..you really got me there...that argument that Trump was helpless as President is tough to counter...oh and that schools reopening because Los Angeles liberals are bad. Yep. Nailed me. You forgot AOC's role in all this and the deep state trying to kill Ted Cruz's dog.

With the stay-at-home orders lifted, the state is returning to the four-tier reopening system. The four tiers are yellow, orange, red and purple. Yellow indicates minimal COVID-19 spread and allows for nearly all businesses to reopen indoor operations (as long as physical distancing and face-covering requirements are in place). Purple means there is widespread COVID-19 transmission in the county and nearly all businesses have to keep indoor operations closed or severely limited.

Schools re-opening is controlled by the state. Not liberals in Los Angeles and conservatives in Orange County. Back in August...schools in areas with heavy infection rates and in the "purple tier" could not re-open. I believe there were exceptions for students with special conditions and other things....but why get into the nuances with someone who told everyone Trump had a secret plan to own libs, was hiding secret evidence of widespread voter fraud, and would be given a second term .......anyways.....if the area infection rate dropped and the area dropped to a "red tier" then the school had the option to re-open. Now if a school re-opened under a red tier...and dropped to a purple tier after re-opening, they had the option to stay open. You know....like what we see today. If you want a current map and better description in the hopes of you not embarassing yourself on this subject anymore....you're welcome

Why do you argue one of my points.
Demand that I provide a link to prove it.
Then provide a link that proves it.
THen try to make fun of me for not knowing what I am talking about?

rofl

Let me help you out.
I said Florida had a higher death rate per capita.
Florida has a 1.6% mortality rate
California is sitting at a 1.4% mortality rate.
This is in the first link you provided!!! Did you even look at it before posting?

You understand 1.6% is higher than 1.4%? Should I do the math for you on how "per capita" works...and death as a percentage of population?

Anyways...thanks for helping me out there with responding to the maga "arguments" on these boards.

LA vs OC
"look at the schools in LA vs. the schools in OC...........nothing is open in LA due to the Progs sucking teacher union dick. OC schools reopened late last year. The ones that haven't reopened in OC? The 5 school districts with the highest levels of poverty and highest level of Prog influence.............."

My counter argument was the state....the Governor and the legislature...have the power...deciding what schools could re-open.

THen you countered that by weakly referencing an argument where I said Governors are limited in controlling the habits of people...you know...like whether they choose to wear a mask all the time....social distance....drink responsibly...things like that.....and turned it into.....

"The state is the governor, who you just said had no power.........ooops
Guess he does and guess who he's controlled by?
Can we all say "California Teachers Union"?"

Do I even bother talking to you at this point. Jazz at least tries. I dont think you even try. That hurts my feelings.
I never said the Governor had no power. I said something along the lines of they are limited in controlling the behavior of the people. I did say it isnt a liberal LA vs a conservative OC that stops it from happening. I noticed you ran away from that argument faster than Trump from his ex lawyers. It is the Governor. In your own "special" way you proved my point and then acted like you won the argument. The laughing emojis obviously confirm it.

@Angler well....thanks for ignoring the larger argument, making a single simple point...then signing off with an insult. Was that your mic drop ending the argument?
There is a larger argument. There are points on both sides. California has the largest population of old people in the US. Florida has a higher per capita than California.
Guess what...Maine has the highest per cap of old people. Their Covid per capita death rate is 0.488. You made your claim like that ends the argument. But if that were true...shouldnt Maine have a higher rate than California? Oh wait...you mean there are other factors? ok great we can agree on something. If you read my previous posts you might have picked up on that.

@Granite We are comparing states to compare the jobs of Governors. When you are comparing a state that has half the population of California you use per capita as a better guage of whats going on Is your argument we should compare total deaths? Because in that case Washington DC is killing it with only 993 deaths. Sure..the death rate is 1.39 per 1000, higher than FLorida....but come on...FLorida really sucks with way more deaths!

@Granite And if you want to switch the arguments to Country vs Country and per capita...the US currently sits at #8. Behind Bosnia and ahead of North Macedonia.

1 Belgium.
2 Slovenia
3 UK
4 Czechia
5 Italy
6 Portugal
7 Bosnia Herzegovina
8 USA We are definitely
9 North Macedonia

Is this the proof we are doing great? UK is dealing with a crazy mutant strain, Italy got massacred in the early days before we knew what this was....yeah...how dare those Trump critics say we are doing the worst. We are sitting at a proud 145th out of 152. Definitely...not the worst.

On another note, Professor at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and Bloomberg School of Public Health.............that should be enough to make Progs take note............is basically arguing that "We'll have Herd Immunity by April"
Gloom guy best stay off this blog, lol

Guess why, haha..........and this is gonna frost NR's britches
Because the numbers lead him to believe that roughly 2/3rds of the population has already had the infection.......that would be over 200 million

So, you know all those bullshit meters on CNN, Infection2020, et al..........throw them away
Confirmed cases by testing is basically a load of crap
Which is exactly what others in the medical community have said.

More people are either infected or have natural T-Cell immunity than was thought and at the current trajectory, Covid could be mostly gone by April. The consistent and rapid decline in daily cases since January 8th can only be explained by natural immunity.

Why is this pertinent do you ask?

Because the CA Teachers Union is now saying they're not going back to work until everyone is vaccinated...........including the wee ones...........so, basically hold everyone hostage to their demands for more money for less work time.

That should be even simple enough for our village idiot, Dresden to understand

So who is really dying of covid-19 It's generally old people, according to the CDC
80% were over 65, 12% between 55-64 and 8% under 54.
The younger you are the more likely you will not die of covid-19, with
the exception of infants under 1 yr. Children are not prone to get covid-19,
nor are they likely to spread the virus.
Yet in CA, our local politicians have destroyed businesses, unemployed
millions, and keep children out of school which has resulted in no
social or cultural life.
The Dem politicians were not following any science, they had a
political agenda which included gaining more control over the masses.

The analogy, I have made before, is like quitting your job, mortgaging
your home and using your life savings to save a loved one who is ill
with a life threatening disease. There are some who would do this,
but most would not, because the consequences would be devastating,
if not catastrophic.

The Lib Dems took the position of saving lives at all costs, which only a
fool would do, in my opinion.

If I were to say this on FB or Twitter, I might be cancelled.
HX maybe one the few places where you can express an opinion
without serious consequences.

You are such a moron, Dresden.
CTA has the power to control Newsome

Put it this way, you give a guy millions to get elected
Then he sits down across from you to negotiate salary
What's he gonna do, argue?

Nope, he gives you what you want
Then you give him money again to get re-elected
There's your "rinse and repeat" dummy

it's not like this is a secret, the head of the LA Unions literally said it in so many words not long ago........that they have the power to set their salary and they should use it to the fullest extent.

I'm not a parent and apparently you aren't either or you just might give a shit
But, if you gave a shit, there would go your brains

goballs arguments through the years

ignore it its a hoax
ignore it it isnt deadly
ignore it, it will go away
ignore it, we need the economy
ignore it, we have ONE guy...who has a THEORY...that there are a secret 200 million secret cases that went undetected, which GUARANTEES immunity from ever catching it again...and guarantees you from catching ANY FUTURE MUTATIONS.

His final argument will be...
ignore it you died
I have to admit...that one will be tough to argue.

I saw a serious post on IG the other day that urges people to literally "go back to normal" starting March 1st.

Any more govt mandates is tyrannical bullshit.

Funny we should trust ONE guy who has only ever worked for the government... Lied, changed his mind multiple times.

But another with impeccable credentials that not overtly contradicts but has made his own ideas public .... No cant believe him.

Im flummoxed by the lack of curiosity and the faith all at the same time.
