The reality in these cases is that the taxpayer rarely goes to jail unless he intentionally lied about income. The IRS approved agent for the taxpayer will go to bat unless the taxpayer lied about the details. As long as they were honest and the CPA followed the guidelines....even while being aggressive.....they will normally go for penalties, back taxes, etc. But not jailtime...
Keep in mind that IRS agents work for the government cause they're not smart enough to get a private sector job. But, they could just hate Donnys guts like so many do and say fuck it.....I'll risk my pension just put the orangutan behind bars
If he goes, Hillary has to go too. She's one the one we know absolutely broke Federal law at this point.

Hiding your tracks with substantial real estate holdings is difficult.
Since he's an egomaniac, he likely inflated the values of his properties to encourage financial institutions to continue to lend to him. No American banks have agreed to lend to him for years; it would be interesting to see if someone (e.g., Russians) guaranteed his loans with Deutsche Bank.
Since he's a moron, he likely minimized the values of his properties too aggressively to reduce his tax liability.
All investigators and forensic accountants have to do is compare the numbers for each of his properties.
Remember that Trump negotiated a plum deal with the IRS prior to becoming president, which was heavily criticized, but because of his antagonism of the NY DA, no stone will be left unturned by them. His financials and tax returns will be heavily scrutinized, the same way they scrutinized his sham charity. He knows he's fucked.
Also remember that the woman who handled all of Trump's finances at Deutsche Bank suddenly resigned at the end of December 2020. Just imagine the information investigators are getting out of her...

Trump doesn't give a flying fuck about any of this nonsense.
If his taxes are incorrect, then the fault lies with his accountants/CPA firms. He will pay the tax owed and the penalties and then sue his accountants. Tax evasion has three elements, all of which must be met:
(1) willfulness,
(2) the existence of a tax deficiency, and
(3) an affirmative act constituting an evasion (or an attempted evasion) of tax.
You'll never get past #1, as Trump will simply claim unfamiliarity with the tax code and that he hired professionals to act on his behalf. Willfulness immediately changes to a mistake...pay the ticket and be done with it.
This of course assumes that there's any tax deficiency in the first place...just like that Russian collusion we heard all about. What happened to that?
In the meantime, Trump's coming out party #2 is at CPAC on 2/28. The midterms are just around the corner!

It is unbelievable that still 46% of Republicans are willing to go with Trump if he formed a new party, and I am hoping that happens, then both his new party and Republican party will never flourish in near future, the end of both parties or to stay a minority party for good.

It will be interesting to see what New York actually finds. I would not be surprised if tax returns given to banks in order to obtain loans do not match tax returns actually filed with the IRS. Since most bank are insured and usually guaranteed by the FDIC this crime is usually something the Federal Government ends up handling. It is the same infraction that Geraldine Ferraro's (former candidate for VP) husband plead guilty to in New York after the 1984 Presidential Election. It is a relatively common fraud perpetrated by a lot of people trying to buy real estate including many in California.
Most property tax returns involve reporting the year and amounts you paid for the original purchase of land, buildings, improvements, etc. The governing tax authority is usually the one that determines the current value of the property for taxation purposes. If the amounts in his books don't agree with what was reported on the returns that could be problematic.
Obviously if what he reported to the IRS or the State of New York is incorrect then he may have other problems.
Time will tell and it might be some time before anybody knows for sure.

This is just the continued harassment of Trump because

I dealt with a few wealthy people in my time and most
know how to hide their assets legally.
Trump has a team of CPAs and tax attorneys who are paid
to cover all the bases. Most CPAs and tax attorneys
are risk aversive and have discussed any risk with
tax return filings.
The assumption seems to be that Trump is operating
as a criminal when there has not been any evidence
to support this assumption.
I don't think Trump operates his businesses by
breaking the law. I believe he is a shrewd businessperson
who takes advantage of the tax laws as well as other
wealthy people.

The linked article is to a house he sold for $95 million in Palm Beach that he bought four years earlier for $41 million. Transactions like this may be a way to siphon money to Trump nefariously. He apparently sold units in Trump Tower to Russians as well. If the buyer pays FMV for a property, then that is obviously fine, but you can easily launder large sums through inflated real estate deals.
Lastly, Mueller has admitted that he didn’t investigate Trump’s finances at all because of Trump’s “red line” that his finances were off limits for Mueller’s investigation. The article is mistaken that the Palm Beach sale was already investigated by him.

It’s beyond just the monetary gains. What was the money meant to buy? His loyalty perhaps? There’s a KGB agent that claims that they’ve been working Trump for 40 years. Of course they may find only a weak Russian connection, but I suspect there is more there than we now know and it could get really interesting. Beyond that, he cooked the books like most real estate developers, but antagonizing prosecutors with his arrogance is going to do him in.
I’m actually all in on FNGR and GTII. I lost a lot in GME and AMC calls. I was planning on buying more GME calls this week but didn’t. Disappointing.
Brokerages changed the collateral requirement to 300% of any short position today or yesterday, so shorts are scrambling to come up with the cash or they will be forced to buy back the shares they shorted if they don’t meet the new guidelines. The next few days are going to be really interesting. Hope it doesn’t trigger a market crash or substantial correction before I sell my stock. Clearing houses may go under if they have to absorb short/hedge fund losses that could run into the 10s of billions.

I do hate Trump with all my being. I think he’s a false prophet to many who fell for his scam.
I went to grad school with stupid, lazy, talentless trust fund babies like him. He was criminally incompetent as President and he deserves everything he’s going to get. His taxes are just one thing that will be easy to investigate. The needless deaths due to covid that he could have prevented/mitigated is another.
