I was watching that car in my mirror coming up behind me at about 50 MPH then he went around me at the last second, also glad no one was on the cross street. A biker was killed at that intersection about a year ago. Vicente Avenue and Puente Avenue in West Covina.
Yes I desperately need a paint job but I'm not investing in any cosmetics for a 20 year old car. I only invest in mechanics such as the timing belt $450, axles and boots $400 and tires $500. I change oil every 3000 miles and drain and fill the transmission once a year. The car still runs like new and still gets 25 mpg as it did when new. The interior is still pristine.
Next month I'm investing $200 into a catalytic converter anti theft device. It has become a national epidemic.
I came close to buying a new truck last October but figured it would be a waste of money.
what were your concerns about having a video going all the time?
I had thought about getting a camera for a while. I was the third car in line waiting to turn left. The woman in front of me missed her chance to turn and decided to back up, I'm blowing my horn but she keep backing, I can't back up because the guy behind me ain't backing up and she hit me. The guy took off because he doesn't want to be a witness. There was no damage just jolted really good. At that moment I realized it's my word against hers if she say that I hit her.
You can mute them so they don’t record sound. Uber drivers use them all the time but they focus them on the passengers. That’s how that Newport Beach douchebag who struck the driver got caught.
I had mine as a protection against a he said/she said moment. When I first got it, I thought I had almost killed a motorcycle rider. We didn’t actually touch but he swerved around me with his his middle finger in the air keeping up those international relations. Got home and checked the footage, turns out he had been the one driving wrecklessly.
Wish someone would start a website detailing bad SoCal drivers using dash cam footage.
The other day a driver threw a bottle out of his window and cracked the windshield of my brand new car. I wasn’t worried since my insurance will cover it but when they asked if I got any info on the other person I realized I had nothing, couldn’t even get a license plate because it was dark and I never saw it happen.
I knew it was a bottle because I had cola or Pepsi all over the front of my car. I only asked about the car recording while it’s off because I know Tesla’s have sensors that monitor the car in like a standby mode and I liked that.
I think airbags have made idiots feel invulnerable, but that is totally not true.
A few years ago, I saw a late-model car cut in front of a semi at the last second, trying to get over to the exit on the right. Being a late model car, I am sure it had airbags,

That's why I don't ride my bicycle on the street anymore. A guy drove by me and threw a bottle at me, glass shattered all around me. Another time I was riding my bicycle on a street with three south bound lanes when this woman came up behind me and started blowing her horn. I went on the sidewalk and she drove up about three hundred yards to another cyclist and did the same thing to him.
