Ugh I had my catalytic converter stolen once- right out of a hotel parking lot! Supposedly no cameras were able to see anything... Cost $850 to replace it with a USED one!

Remember, this is because they contain highly valuable metals such as palladium, rhodium, and platinum, not because the Catalytic Converter itself is of value.

I had two stolen recently. I'm definitely going to call that number. They were very expensive to replace, and maybe I can get restitution from the thieves.

I hope they don't tell me to come up and identify mine... LOL!

What is so special about catalytic converters? I wonder why thieves always target them.

When you see the price of palladium, rhodium, and platinum, then you will know why.

They open them up and melt down those.

Today's Spot price.

Platinum 1189.00
Palladium 2278.00
Rhodium 20,000.00

No Gold but 1719.40 this morning.

I just watched a ABC news broadcast.

GARDEN GROVE, Calif. (KABC) -- Three people were killed Friday in a two-vehicle crash in Garden Grove that sent one vehicle into a pool and left the other vehicle overturned and up against a brick wall.

The vehicle that crashed into the pool sheared a hydrant and plowed through a brick wall near the corner of Euclid Street and Orangewood Avenue, where the second vehicle rolled over, the Orange County Fire Authority reported about 3:15 a.m.

The truck that was being pursued by the police and wound up in the pool, when they retrieved the truck they found a saw and a sawed off catalytic converter in the truck.

It's very sad that an innocent driver was unessarily killed during the high speed chase.

Who ever the catalytic converter was stolen from has the satisfaction of knowing the two guys who stole their catilitic conver drowned, that's some serious karma. Hopefully a good muffler guy can wield it back on the vehicle.

CARB is a fricken state sanctioned racket.

If your car can pass smog yet your catalytic converter is not STATE registered guess what...."You Fail" no reason just you didn't spend enough money.

These rings are very organized. I saw a video clip caught from a door camera. They are like a Nascar pit crew, roll up in a van. 3 dudes climb out, one uses a floor jack and boosts one side of the car up, two other dudes roll under with Sawzall saws to quickly cut the pipe on either side of the converter. They roll out, drop the car and off they go. Takes about 30 seconds total from time they stop.
