China has a window of opportunity to capitalize (no pun intended) on the West’s ineptitude. China needs to be the dominant world power in the next 8-10 years. If it doesn’t it’s going to come crashing down as it is facing a demographic disaster in the following years:
1) Decades of 1-child policy will result in majority of its people > 60 years of age. As a result, not enough working population to support the country and elderly.
2) Not enough women to go around due to decades of sex/gender selection/aborting girls.
It has reformed these rules, but its citizens have realised economic benefits of smaller households so you can’t force people to have more kids (not yet anyway). With this potential disaster, the CCP is going to anything it needs to. And I do mean anything.

During Vietnam war there were too many politicians with their business in the military business of the day. Top brass couldnt do shit without too many "approvals" of high level objectives. The notion of bombing Hanoi became thought of as extending the targets outside the theater of hostilities.
