I recommend visiting Olvera St Mexican Market. It’s on the corner of Alameda St and Cesar Chavez Ave and walking distance from Chinatown. There several delicious Mexican restaurants.

You can get Mexican food anywhere. Do you want a really unique experience?
Check out Escala in K-Town. It's Korean-Colombian Fusion. Damn interesting!

Mexicali Taco & Co is pretty good, and a little more up Sunset there is Guisados.
I just drove by Sunset and there is a line at a street set-up, that has rotating spit. Must be good if there is a line right, lol.

Sounds like you need to make a run to Puerto Nuevo or Tijuana for a quick foodie experience. Tijuana has become a real food destination.
