The reason Trump may be remembered in terms of the vaccines is the fact he pushed for the mRNA vaccines when his science advisors pushed for more traditional methods. The numbers for the mRNA vaccines are outstanding, particularly for the amount they reduce infections, which has been estimated to be from 80% to a ridiculously high 94%. Why is this important? Getting out of the pandemic with the fewest deaths possible depends highly on the ability to prevent infection. Studies have shown that the numbers that could still die are very sensitive to the percent reduction of infection. A difference from 60% to 85% could mean the difference in hundreds of thousand of lives. If the mRNA vaccines turn out to be ten, twenty, or thirty percent better at reducing transmission than the other vaccines, particularly those from China which depend on traditional methods, Trump’s decision may have saved the US hundreds of thousands of lives.
Of course how well we exit the pandemic also depends on population immunity, so unless you got COVID recently and know you have antibodies for it, go out and get the vaccine!!!

The rolling 7-day average of over 1 million shots per day did not occur until after Trump left office. In fact the only day when 1.5 million doses was reached was January 20. The 7 day rolling average of 1.5 million doses per day wasn’t reached until late February.

Let me get this straight.....
1) You want to ignore all the failures of the Trump administration on Covid19...most of them intentional...that resulted in the most infections and deaths in the world....to focus on part of one thing he did do that I gave him partial credit for....in order to own me?
2) You want to attack Biden for attacking Trump for screwing something up when Trump didn't?
You know Trump blamed Obama for the outbreak of Covid right? Is that having a problem with the truth? Did you post a blog attacking this? You know he also blamed Obama for not leaving him enough PPE in his 4th year in office....and after he shipped almost 18 tons of PPE and respirators to China after being told we didn't have enough? Did you post a blog on how Trump has a problem with the truth when he blamed Obama for that?
Trump, despite knowing this would be bad, lied to us and purposefully made it worse. Almost all of his decisions helped the virus spread in this country. He gave out bad advice for safety, blamed everyone for his failures. But that doesnt help Trump or your position does it. So lets talk about operation warp speed and how much of a great success it was and how we should all be praising Trump for saving us from the virus.
So operation warp speed apparently has been warped into being responsible for speeding up creation, testing, FDA approval, production, and distribution of the vaccines. Also acquisition of the vaccine. Do I have that right? I wouldnt want to misunderstand before your positions change.
Creation. They had been working on vaccines all year. They were in phase 2/3 testing when this was negotiated. You need to complete phase 3 before being approved. So essentially, it didnt help here at all. **In fact, international health organizations have long used such market guarantees (like this) to keep going and encourage for-profit manufacturers to supply vaccines to the developing world. (NY Times)
Testing. Well they were already in phase 2/3 testing. For example Pfizer CEO said it didnt take the money but later a company spokesperson said they used it to help with phase 3 testing....that they were already in. So again....didn't help much here either.
Emergency FDA approval. This isnt a new thing. We did emergency approval for ebola testing in 2014. THey were considering approving some vaccines before phase 3 testing but I dont think they did that or else we would have those AstraZeneca vaccines.
Production. It could be used to help pay for production...but the boast was that it got it to us sooner. You know...operation warp speed...not operation factory line. However, in regards to prodcution, Trump left them to their own devices really for this. Just threw money at the problem. (Thought conservatives didnt like that? Oh well if Trump did it...anyways I digress) Alex Azar gave an interview where he believed we would have enough vaccines by June...but didn't know. Why didn't he know? Because they were not getting involved...just throwing money at it.
Distribution. States had to develop sites that would be approved by the feds. They would then submit for vaccines and they would be delivered once reviewed and approved. Trump's admin p[redicted to have 20 million doses completed in several weeks. They had 11.4 million, with 2million in arms after several weeks. They moved the goalposts to the end of the year for 20 million doses. WHen it was clear that would fail they moved them again. Trump didnt provide enough money or infrastructure for vaccine distribution. The Trump administration was actually lobbying Congress against giving more funds for vaccine distribution.
Acquisition - The deal for Warp speed did indeed include 800 million doses. The biggest contract was with AstraZeneca for 300 million doses. The deal was done in July. AstraZeneca stopped it's phase 3 testing in the U.S. So it was never approved in the U.S. Did Trump do anything to remedy this? You like to look at the July dead as success but then ignore what happened afterwords. We are in March...and of those 800 million doses Trump "acquired", only 300 million will be able to be delivered. Did Trump look at the changing landscape and make an executive decision? Did he tell AstraZeneca "You're Fired!"? When he left office, the J&J vaccine was still not ready but was almost ready. So the big deal you like to brag about....wasnt going to deliver on what was promised...unless we waited....for AstraZeneca to get it's shit together...to deliver the 300 million doses Trump was waiting on. But no...Trump was sulking because he los tthe election. Too busy playing golf to get any work done. The exact opposite of what he promised in 2016.
So lets look at how Biden changed things up.
He ACQUIRED more doses immediately. He isnt waiting for AstraZeneca to get its shit together and deliver the 300 million doses Trump ordered from them. He greatly improved DISTRIBUTION by making a deal between rival companies to make doses that were approved and ready. He helped with infrastruture, planning, and more funding. Biden promised to put 100 million doses in arms and will hit 200 million doses. Trump promised 20 million....moved the goalposts several times...and fell short on many other promises as well.
I give Trump partial credit for doing it in the first place instead of continuing to pretend it wasnt really a problem to be dealt with. Be happy with that.

1) You seem to think it's only people who backed djt that are opting not to take it. It's not & many health care workers are also refusing to take it.
2) Many, including me, don't trust the vac because of the speed it was developed. From beginning of R&D to fda approval & implementation it takes the average vac 10 years or 120 months to reach the public. This one less than 12 months. In that 120 months both long & short term effects are studied, that can't be said for these vaccines.
Do they work? No doubt. Are they safe? Won't know for at least 5 years.
Do I care what the FDA says? Not really. The FDA is in big pharma's pocket. Ex.: Valdecoxib (Bextra), Pemoline (Cylert), Bromfenac (Duract), Levamisole (Ergamisol) all approved by the fda and then pulled because they were unsafe and caused heart attacks, strokes, liver damage etc.

The rolling 7 million shots did occur in February, but the infrastructure to be able to accomplish it was in place, as evidenced by 1.5 on Jan 20.
This shit doesn't happen overnight. Experts said we wouldn't even have a vaccine for a couple more years and we are well on the way to tens of millions vaccinated.
But I am waiting on my friends on the left to start cheering when big Joe fucks them with an increase in Federal gas tax and a federal tax hike.
Joe will make up some shit it is Trump's fault.
