No matter who ya vote for no one deserves to be treated like that from anyone... But society right now is saying we don't need to be protected from perps like that. NY is letting dangerous people out of prison and jail because a loud minority of people are pressuring them to.
As far as the doorman.... the perp is an imposing figure I'd find it understandable that he'd might yell say I've called the police something but apparently he did nothing.... chickens hit move but not unlawful. He has been suspended from work from reports that I've heard.

A similar incident happened at a transit station in Seattle a few years back where three big security guards stood watch from 3 feet away while a teenage girl was getting her head stomped on.
Work regulations shouldn't prevent people from being decent human beings.

It's not about legal duty or obligation. It's about being a morally responsible person and looking out for your fellow human being regardless if it's your job or not. This country will always be divided by race but, evil conquers when good people stand by and do nothing.

As a former state licensed security guard, your job as a security guard isn’t to protect the public... it’s to protect what you’re paid to protect. It probably sounds heartless but that is was the state teaches you in the classroom. If the security guard had gotten involved, they could’ve been injured preventing them from doing their primary duty. And if they had been injured or worse, WC insurance rates through the roof costing their employer mucho bucks. Perhaps if they had been incapacitated, the folks in the building would’ve been injured or massacred.
Besides, if highly trained highly paid well armed law enforcement isn’t required to engage, why does a guy making $12 an hour carrying no protection have to? Protect what you have to, call 911, and make a good witness.

A lot of people is missing the point on here. Its not about what you're obligated to do or not to do while on the job. It's about being morally responsible and showing care and compassion for another human being. Ever wonder why this country is divided by racial lines? If I was an employer and I saw on video those guards going above and beyond the call of duty to assist the victim of a vicious crime, they would have a job with me in a hearbeat, if they were to be terminated for their actions. Semper Fi to all the devil dogs out there.

I get it. The difference between the legal and moral obligation. But the original post said the doorman should be jailed for a year. I disagree.
Should they have helped the woman? Absolutely. Are they dicks? For sure! But not jailed.
I have a little different perspective. I have a CCW and carry a gun every day. Over the past 5 years, had I gotten involved in every thing I have seen, I likely would have shot 2-3 people. And the end result of those incidents? The police finally arrived and took the bad guy(s) away. Some folks got hurt but not seriously. Better than me getting involved and shooting someone, me going to jail, me hiring lawyers for my defense, getting sued civilly by the family of the dead guy(s) I shot, and losing my CCW license. I have it to protect myself and those I love. I don't get paid to be a public servant or security guard for society.
