RIP Michael Collins... a true American Patriot
""As pilot of the Apollo 11 command module -- some called him 'the loneliest man in history' -- while his colleagues walked on the Moon for the first time, he helped our nation achieve a defining milestone. He also distinguished himself in the Gemini Program and as an Air Force pilot."

Just heard an interview of him as he described his time on the dark side of the moon during the mission.
Most people thought he would be morbidly lonely. Instead, he loved it, as it finally gave him peace and quiet (and Houston shutting up) while he could finally admire the view.
The guy was humble and funny.

He came from a distinguished military family. His father, James was an Army General, during WW 2, as was his Uncle, “Lightning” Joe Collins, who later became Army Chief of Staff.
What I remember most about Michael, was his great sense of humor, when alone in the CM, and while Buzz and Neil we’re getting all the glory.
I was 5 months into my tour, in Vietnam during the Apollo 11 mission, not a particularly patriotic time in my life, BUT DAMN! I was proud to be an American when those guys splashed down, on Mother Earth.
52 years ago! In retrospect HOW did we do it?
Rest In Peace Michael... you made us proud!

You guys are funny, lol
Collins was in his trailer on the back lot where they filmed those other 2 jokers on the "moon"
Apparently, he and his brother, Tom, got roaring drunk on some drink they invented
Good times, though

Interesting picture seen in the link where Collins took a picture of the whole of humanity except himself.
