@Dr.Boogie. With all due respect, it's not clear what you suggest, with some studies suggesting otherwise about transmissibility of children versus adults, which is the #1 reason to wear a mask.

I would get annoyed at cashiers insisting on handling every item I neatly placed in the cart with the barcode visible.
Same cashiers when I have a couple items in hand with barcode facing them that keep reaching to take them instead of just scanning them.
Of course this was at Home Depots, Costco etc.. that use hand scanners.
My wife and daughter still insisting on spraying my hands when we get back into the car after shopping somewhere together. Even though they must know I have been out in the field all day and shopped many times and that there is no sanitizer in my truck.

I asked her why she did that, and she stupidly said "It's okay. I sanitized my hands right before I came in."
I just said "Okay", realizing there was no point to further dialogue with this person.
What a bonehead! Once you start touching every damned thing in the store, you are moving OTHER people's germs from one location to another to another, and so on, all over the store. You could be wearing gloves and that would still be true.
** Item 2. People who wear a mask across their lips and leave their nose exposed. Dumb!
Anyway, I don't need to care anymore. I'm fully vaccinated. So that's about as safe as I can get without becoming a freaking cave-dwelling hermit.

In our systematic review, we identified 10 RCTs that reported estimates of the effectiveness of face masks in reducing laboratory-confirmed influenza virus infections in the community from literature published during 1946–July 27, 2018.
In pooled analysis, we found no significant reduction in influenza transmission with the use of face masks.

2. Largest study on face masks done by Dutch April-May 2020( March 2021 report released). Over 6k participants.
"Infection with SARS-CoV-2 occurred in 42 participants recommended masks (1.8%) and 53 control participants (2.1%). The between-group difference was −0.3 percentage point."
The difference of .3 percent is statistically INSIGNIFICANT.

And silly videos criticizing Fauci are also one-sided and incomplete.
I guess my pet peeve is the overuse of the expression “follow the science” used by people to give one-sided analyses when the truth is often more grey and complex.
I should note that despite all the criticism of Fauci and vaccines, he was one of the architects behind the notion we get out of this mess by using vaccines, and because of vaccines, our situation continues to look better and better, better since it has since the beginning.

The 10 studies were what the CDC looked at and analyzed. These were the ONLY studies available until the DUTCH MASK Study. Which was the largest ever conducted.
Also......
The Surgical masks are made to stop BACTERIA......NOT a VIRUS. A virus is 1,000 times smaller than a bacteria. Therefore all of you people wearing these masks do not provide any protection.
Lastly the N95 masks offer a 30-60% effective rate to stop a virus. HOWEVER.....they can ONLY be used once. Yes once.
Do NOT try and out knowledge me on this.

If you actually knew the science, you would see there is a lot of grey on the matter of efficacy of masks, not black and white.
Depending on RCT's alone when it comes to masks is problematic because a substantial number of them, including the Danish study (not Dutch, as you said), have had statistical power issues. Often, there was an effect, but one that didn't live up to statistical significance. For example, in the Danish study, the confidence interval did have a bias towards statistical significance enough for the authors to state that the data were compatible with lesser degrees of self protection. Power issues came about in this study because people in the control group actually weren't told not to wear masks, and it was documented that people in the experimental group didn't always adhere to mask wearing. In the meta-analysis you cite, the forest plot is biased towards the "favors mask" side even if the end result is a lack of significance, consistent with the notion of there being power issues.
For this reason, as well as others, mask experts like Dr. Monica Gandhi from UCSF think that other types of studies rather than RCTs are superior when it comes to measuring the effects of mask wearing.
The most down-the-middle analysis of mask wearing in my opinion comes from the ecdc. They grade each study based upon certainty and confidence of evidence. They conclude there is a moderate effect of surgical masks, but admit there is significant uncertainty in this effect size. They conclude there is enough evidence warranting the use of masks in the pandemic.
If you're the reasearcher you say you are, you can find this study easily and many others that you fail to cite.
Also, while viruses themselves are tiny, they ususally don't travel in the air alone but are attached to droplets or aerosols, and those can often be stopped by mask wearing. But, you are correct, some viruses get through, and people do breathe them in. A new article pubished in Science last week demonstrated that masks have been effective against COVID because they have limited this amount of virus, and environments people have been in have had relatively low virus abundance to begin with. If the virus concentrations in the air had been too much, then the masks would have had no effect, but thank goodness that hasn't been the case.
One final interesting note. I modeled aerosol tranmission (I borrowed a model from the literature) in various locations like supermarkets and also concluded that masks did have a moderate effect on curtailing transmission. Yet, immunity from vaccination (and likely from natural infection too) has a much larger effect on curtailing transmission, making the additional wearing of masks in this case to be almost insignificant. This is probably why the CDC came out last week and said if you are vaccinated, you no longer need to wear masks execpt for in situations of relatively high viral concentrations. I admit though that even I'm still wearing my mask indoors, not due to the science, but due to irrational fear I guess.

Also latest study from MIT said that 3 feet....6 feet....does NOT matter. Even up to 60 feet in enclosed office. And lets not forget wearing masks outside. CDC said 10% chance of getting it when in reality its less than .1%. Greater chance if getting hit with lightening while taking a bath.
Believe what you want but the studies say otherwise.
Plus.....
If a virus is 1,000 times smaller than what a mask can capture then tell me again how that works.
