Best for me is the cheapest as it's used for no other purpose.

Tracphone $20 for 90 days of service. Most others out there are in the range of $50 a month.

I don't need bells & whistles on my burner, just gets in the way.

There are many burners on the market, it all depends if you're going to just use it as a phone to call and text
or
if you are going to need more to use apps, one of the best values is to get a smart phone that's no longer in demand.
If you like Iphones, you can get an SE or XR at a really good discount, and the same for many Android models that are 3-4 years from being current.

And you need to choose your carrier for what's best in your area. As you know, certain areas are better with different carriers.
If you go with the secondary cheap carriers like Mint, Cricket- Cricket uses AT&T, Mint uses Sprint/T Mobile. TracFone uses AT&T, Sprint/T-Mobile, Verizon Wireless and U.S. Cellular, depending on the phone model.

And you can also just swap SIM cards, using your personal cell phone.

Simple mobile

You can refill by a card that you purchase from Ralph's, cvs or anywhere really

And metro. Got a galaxy a13 for free. When they asked for my ID I pretended that I couldn't find it and she just told me to write it down which I wrote down anything

I just go inside to pay with cash but so far I like them both

Att prepaid and simple mobile allow hot spot tethering if you need it. Some prepaids do not include it even in the unlimited packages.

I use a Cricket burner $30 a month and use a Samsung I bought at Best Buy when the we're buy 1 get one half off.
Paid $65.00 for the phone and got another for $32.50.
I keep the 2nd one just in case I need another one if the this one takes a shit and dies.

Walk into Target once a month for my $30 usage card.

HSN often has tracfone deals that come with an annual plan. Cheaper in the long run. I think tracfone uses the vzn network.

I've had a Tmobile phone for years that is $100 for 1000 minutes, and lasts a year.

It wasn't until I got a better phone on a discrete ATT account ($30/mo) that I found joy.
I used to have to use my civie phone for maps, directions, etc.
Now I only take the burner, and it does it all.
If I lose it (I won't) I'm out an iPhone SE.

You may also want to use the Burner App for iPhone.

It creates disposable phone numbers for calling and texting.
