what's the first thing that comes to mind?
|
|
this seems a little counterintuitive to what he is offering
"Twitter has extraordinary potential," Musk says in an SEC filing. "I will unlock it."
|
|
Musk's stock purchase may be illegal.
|
|
pay a penalty...that's it
|
|
MAINSTREAM MEDIA.. newscasters.. newspapers, Hollywood ect ect... are all in panic mode...LOL Especially CNN and MSNBC...
|
|
This is gonna be great.
Bye bye snowflakes, and the terms 'disinformation / misinformation' from our lexicon.
Let the meltdown commence.
|
|
probably won't go thru and he will dump the shit out of it
MAYBE a liberal consortium takes it private at lower price
|
|
And so it begins ...

Translation: "My ideas and arguments are so weak they can't survive without Twitter censoring my opponents for me."
"Goebbels was in favor of free speech for views he liked. So was Stalin. If you're really in favor of free speech, then you're in favor of freedom of speech for precisely the views you despise. Otherwise, you're not in favor of free speech."

I hope Elon Musk buys Twitter. I actually think Twitter and company have gone way too far with censoring people.
I understand the concern with violence concerning Donald Trump around January 6. I think those concerns were real, but there are less drastic measures than kicking off Donald Trump permanently. They could have had a month long time-out, or something like that.
This action has led to way too much censorship by Twitter, Facebook, Youtube, and the like. Someone tweeting about cloth masks not being effective will get kicked off, while a few months later public health officials will be saying the same thing.
(By the way, for the record, efficacy of cloth masks is still inconclusive IMO).
I wonder, though, how many people would leave Twitter if Musk buys it outright.

Billionaires buy media companies to exerted influence on the news and thus influence those that are a threat to their fortunes (i.e. politicians and to a lesser extent the people). 15 billionaires own the majority of USA news media and arguably Twitter - and Facebook - has become part of the news media ecosystem. So, Elon wants to join the below club.
Michael Bloomberg - Bloomberg LP and Bloomberg Media
Rupert Murdoch - News Corp
Donald and Samuel "Si" Newhouse - Advance Publications
Cox Family - Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Jeff Bezos - The Washington Post
John Henry - The Boston Globe
Sheldon Adelson - The Las Vegas Review-Journal
Joe Mansueto - Inc. and Fast Company magazines
Mortimer Zuckerman - US News & World Report, New York Daily News
Barbey family - Village Voice
Stanley Hubbard – Hubbard Broadcasting
Patrick Soon-Shiong - Tribune Publishing Co.
Carlos Slim Helu - The New York Times
Warren Buffett - regional daily papers
Viktor Vekselberg - Gawker

makes no sense.
Sure twitter might sell advertising.
It's only had 2 years of net positive income..
43 Billion? Sure Musk is a smart guy, but shit, the annual TOTAL advertising in the US is bit over 200 billion. That's TV, Radio, Print, everything else.
So, sure, twittter can make money from advertising outside of the US..... I just have a hard time seeing how it's valued at 43 billion.that's more than Dell computer is worth.
More power to him though, his money, he sees something I don't.
|
|
Newspapers, - where Twitter kind of sits as an aggregator of news stories as links and opinions whether blue check people or randos - are not owned by people because they are profitable.
It's not about making money. It's about controlling the narrative and thus the people and the levers of power.

Mark Cuban says Elon Musk has opened the door for big tech competitors to snap up influence at — or even buy — Twitter.
“Elon will smile all the way to the bank"
|
|
i would welcome if Musk end up taking over Twitter, there is way too much one sided censoring going on..
twitter is however an extremely dangerous platform though - great for distributing a single only version of any story. listed to me type communications.
imagine the power, someone with 5 mil followers calls you out and call you a thief - or rapist..
someone with 10 followers - not the same right?

'probably won't go thru and he will dump the shit out of it'
There's really no reason why it shouldn't go through. Elon's offering to buy it at double the current stock price.
The soon to be unemployed and worthless ceo - Parag Agrawal, can't use the excuse - it's bad for the share holders cause they'll double their investment.
If he and the board turn him down they better have a REALLY good reason other then - He's going to fire me and everyone else here that wants to keep censorship alive.
'Musk's stock purchase may be illegal.'
Yeah but look who's filed the law suit and is reporting on it being illegal - the one's who want to stop any opinions that differ from their own i.e. far left idiots and those that think the alphabet people are or should be a protected class or are special.
The problem is that people i.e. the far left idiots, have forgotten what the WWII generation and baby boomers have always known - America's a tough nation to live in: You HAVE to listen to someone voicing an opinion that you would spend your life fighting against.
THAT'S Free Speech.

"Yeah but look who's filed the law suit and is reporting on it being illegal - the one's who want to stop any opinions that differ from their own i.e. far left idiots and those that think the alphabet people are or should be a protected class or are special."
What? It sounds like you think Musk is a protected class and shouldn't have to play by the rules.
|
|
Seriously? It's a minor infraction and like Mr. Starfish said he'll pay a fine and it'll be done with.
Meanwhile all the blue check marks and twitidiots will be losing their shit as will the main stream media and ... you apparently.
THAT'S entertainment!
Atticus Finch

You really should change your name from Atticus Finch to Bob Ewell. You are nothing like Atticus.
|
|
Musk could literally make whole any investors losses and pay the fines with his walking around money. It's not a frivolous suit but it damn sure isn't consequential to his actions or motives.
Media is iterally throwing shit at the wall and hoping it sticks ....ad usual.
|
|
'You really should change your name from Atticus Finch to Bob Ewell. You are nothing like Atticus.'
I guess you're afraid of losing that blue check mark too.
You can probably relax.
I think Elon's just having some fun, at your expense, and has no intention of buying twit.
But he's sure got all you twitidiots in a panic.
If I'm right then it might be worth it to actually join twit for a minute just to thank him for the laughs ... then quit it of course.
Atticus Finch

Bob-Ewell, I know when you are joking, because you put in the haha emojis. That's the only way.
|
|
^ this guy
You need a brain transplant if you pay any attention to Twitter
Or TrueSocial or any of that garbage
It's for the weak minded emotional decision maker who doesn't understand evidence based rationality.......simple as that

not sure 50billion is best use of his money...maybe 10billion for a controlling stake and he can put people in charge
bezos got his piece of influence for only 250million bucks
Powell Jobs acquired her majority interest in The Atlantic in 2017, at a price reportedly north of $100 million. (She owns the stake through Emerson Collective, her hybrid investment, social impact and philanthropic firm.) At the time, the magazine said it expected her to assume full control by 2022.

Twitter board will reject the offer as too low on the weekend.
|
|
what's plan B?
BTW, i could see some bigger offers coming down the pike...maybe with chinese money behind it...dems won't let this company getaway without a fight...already looking for congress to help...congress might be OK with chinese involved though

Do you want to know why Musk wants to buy Twitter? Read these two headlines. That's why:
8/5/2013 Business Insider (@BusinessInsider) tweeted:
"Billionaire Jeff Bezos' Washington Post buy marks a fascinating
cultural transition in America."
4/14/2022 Business Insider (@BusinessInsider) tweeted:
"Elon Musk's attempt to buy Twitter represents a chilling new threat:
Billionaire trolls taking over social media."
That's why. If you disagree with the political establishment, the tech establishment, etc. then you are a troll. As soon as the People get done taking another two years of the Biden regime up the ass dry, they'll be sick of the propaganda and the bullshit. And this leftist nonsense will be thrown on the scrapheap of history for 5-10 years, before the morons start it up anew, all over again.
|
|
it's QUITE fun reading this kinda shit... they've been scrabbling for 5 years and so out in the open with this shit

Tom Brady asks Elon Musk to delete unflattering combine picture if he buys Twitter
|
|
Twitter going the poison pill route to avoid the Musk take over.
|
|
I'd laugh like hell if Elon now retaliates and dumps his stock crashing the company.
That'd be hilarious - 'Okay keep the company. I'm out.'
Atticus Finch
|
|
well, it turns out he NEEDS to get this fucking company now...the light shed on this has woken the fuckers up and they are engaged to close the hole NOW...even the chinese and russians will be trying to dick around in some fashion with it
they don't mind it crashing as someone...libs/chinese/russia/MBS will come and buy it, pills and all(controlling info is more important than short-term money)...can't really be anyone in big tech now buying it. tiktok could make a play...biden is tight with those guys.
maybe he TRADES oil access for letting MBS buy twitter...would not put that type of thinking past this dude
MUSK has loyal following(though, will be interesting to SEE how his green loving car buyers are going to react to this twitter thing/upsetting the apple cart)
his NEW internet will be playing a key role at some point...watched a few youtube clips (of people setting up the new dish)...looks easy peasy
with twitter, you will not have apple or google shutting down the app access for phones...with something NEW? we have seen it happen

In a recent interview with Elon, he was asked if there was a plan B if he wasn't able to buy the platform. After he replied yes, then he was asked to expound on this plan B and said he'd leave that for a later date.
I'd be really interested to know what his plan B actually is cause I don't think the ceo & board is going to allow him to buy twitter. They know Elon thinks they're all worthless and will be out of jobs the minute he takes control. All they're thinking about now is self preservation.

good interview with miller on twitter

Elon Musk fires Twitter’s top brass after closing $44 billion deal.
Plans on cutting work force from 7500 to 2000.
"Tesla CEO Elon Musk has fired several top Twitter executives after officially taking control of the company Thursday evening.
A source with knowledge of the matter told FOX Business that Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal, CFO Ned Segal, and Vijaya Gadde, head of legal policy, trust, and safety were fired. Musk had accused the three of misleading him and investors over the number of fake accounts on the platform. "
|
|
More quotes from Musk...
"Earlier Thursday, Musk said he was buying the platform to help humanity and that he didn't want it to become a "free-for-all hellscape."
"The reason I acquired Twitter is because it is important to the future of civilization to have a common digital town square, where a wide range of beliefs can be debated in a healthy manner, without resorting to violence," Musk wrote. "

Kill Whitey!
|
|
well could be a problem when he thinks taiwan should just acquiesce to china demands
why would he say that again?
it's the same shit over and over
|
|
Why consider violence a last resort when you can easily just start there?
Then escalate.
|
|
I just love it that vajajay and parag are gone. Parag escorted out... lol I worked at a place where the Chairman and CEO were fired and voted off the board and that didn't happen to them. Couldn't happen to more a more deserving smug group of jackasses.

now WE get these lil interactions
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez wrote, "Lmao at a billionaire earnestly trying to sell people on the idea that 'free speech' is actually an USD 8/mo subscription plan."
Replying to Alexandria, Elon reiterated his stance on the blue tick fee and quipped, "Your feedback is appreciated, now pay USD 8."
Elon Musk’s $44 billion acquisition of Twitter last week spurred a palpable division of trust in its new billionaire CEO. His rumored plan to charge verified users $20 per month to keep their blue check marks was suddenly confirmed Tuesday — after horror author Stephen King complained.
“Twitter’s current lords & peasants system for who has or doesn’t have a blue checkmark is bullshit,” Musk tweeted Tuesday. “Power to the people! Blue for $8/month.”
“$20 a month to keep my blue check?” King tweeted Monday to his 6.9 million followers. “F**k that, they should pay me. If that gets instituted, I’m gone like Enron.”
“We need to pay the bills somehow!” Musk responded Tuesday to King’s tweet. “Twitter cannot rely entirely on advertisers. How about $8?
“It ain’t the money,” King replied to a Twitter user who told him he could afford the price, “it’s the principle of the thing.”
we had fake news of people carrying out boxes like they were fired...news reporting on it
this is funny shit
