I've been to northern Finland in the summer. It's a trip walking out of a bar at 1AM to sunrise in the land of the midnight sun.

Finland sided with Germany in WW2, until it became obvious the Allies were winning and they switched sides. Not a good look, kind of shameful actually. In their defense, they had been victim of Russian aggression in the past. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Finland_in_World_War_II

Finland joined the Nazis in invading Russia for payback. Russian invaded Finland in 1939. The Finnish people held their own for awhile and proved to be effective Winter Warriors. They annihilated the Russian invaders in the beginning destroying many divisions, but eventually the sheer numbers of the Red Army caused them to make peace and bow down. The Russians took land away from them.
The sad part is this: On 23 August 1939, Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union signed the Molotov–Ribbentrop Pact, which included a secret clause demarcating Finland as part of the Soviet sphere of influence. Fucking geopolitics.
The lady from Finland is pretty, however.
