Ford F-150 Eco Boost and CASTROL EDGE EXTENDED PERFORMANCE 5W-30

Tags: Orange County, Random (All tags)

I changed my oil a few months ago with CASTROL EDGE EXTENDED PERFORMANCE 5W-30 in my 3.5 Eco boost F-150 and I paired it with a KN oil filter. Wow it made a difference. Smoother quieter ride, better acceleration and it seems to get better mileage. I took a trip up to the mountains 2 weeks ago and that it was when I really noticed the improvement going uphills and 4 wheel driving.
Meets all Ford standards.Meets Ford WSS-M2C946-B1
Meets Ford WSS-M2C961-A1. I am sticking with this oil and filter combination.

I'm lucky to get 12 mpg with my eco-boost, what're you getting with your new combo?

Frankly, I don't mind getting shitty mileage
I figure the extra carbon output is helping a tree somewhere grow a little faster
And, it's a big fuck you to the enviro-cunts

I get an average of 16 mpg back and forth to work, streets and freeway. I do most of my shopping on the way home from work and do not drive much on the weekends.. On long trips about 21 mpg.

EXTENDED PERFORMANCE ?

Is there an Extended Service Life Interval ? and what is the mileage on that ?

If it were 20,000 mile Service Life would you go the distance ? Or 25,000 miles and the same benefits I get with Amsoil since 1988.

gilbert, are you sure that the improvment isn't from the engine being broken in.?? Best HP increase i have ever seen was on a formula atlantice engine and formula fords, you could see the difference on the dyno. but those engines only go 1,200 miles between rebuilds. and we were using RedLine. full sythn

grooviefan: My truck has just over 85,000 miles on it. Well past broken in stage. It is definitely a better ride since I used the Castrol Edge Extended with the KN filter. I have used other synthetics in the past as well as the recommended Motor-Craft synthetic blend. This time it just feels smoother and quieter. I will change it at around 5,000 miles or so. I will not do the whole 20,000 miles. It will also depend on if I do the cross country trip this year. I will be driving a loaded trailer back.

You sure you got the eco 6?
I get 21 on the freeway, but have never seen 16 around town.
Might have to try that mix, but twin turbo twin fuel inject really guzzles.

Yes I got the 3.5 Eco 6. I do not gun it at lights or stop signs. I drive more than the posted speed limit everywhere but I rarely quickly accelerate to get around slower moving vehicles. I like to hang back and wait for an opening that does not require much quick acceleration. I am also a regular user of Lucas Injector cleaner. Not as harsh as SeaFoam. I purchase the big bottle at Walmart. I fill 2 smaller 5 oz. bottles with the big bottle so when I use the Lucas in the tank I do not have to use a funnel. The smaller bottles have the long necks.
