The problem we may face is one of food shortages due to weather, global inflation, and the War in Ukraine. Ukraine and Russia produce 25% of the world’s wheat.

TOS.

I’m referring to the global shortage of food commodities, not the US shortage of formula, which has a different cause — contamination at a factory.

Let’s see now, lack of formula or poisoned formula…. I’ll take lack of formula, as alternatives are available. Humans have been feeding and growing offspring long before the creation of formula.

we have known for decades that on a global scale, food will eventually become in short supply.
it has not gotten better with changes in climate, droughts, floods etc.
with improved healthcare in 3rd world countries more babies survive and people grow older.
Maybe look at the countries who have grown exponentially - are they really able to grow enough calories for such a large population in a responsible manner.

How absurd.

Substitute the word pussy for food.

I think every one has a right to a certain minimal level of pussy.

those that are pussy rich should share - free of charge with those, through no fault of their own have an inadequate supply of pussy.

Seriously though, the US produces WAY too much corn because of leftest governmental programs that use about 40% of corn for ethanol.

The US produces about a third of the world's corn.

Simple, end the stupid subsidies, have the free market dictate what farmers grow.

Boom, problem solved.

However, the free pussy idea is starting to grow on me.

More misinformation in this one blog than the entire Mueller report
And he got nothing right

Once again, read "How the World Really Works" by V. Smil
And fucking learn something before you fucking post, ffs

"Food and energy, the two existential necessities" (its not possible to run out of oxygen).

Four materials form the four pillars of modern civilization: cement, steel, plastics, and ammonia.

Another key commonality between these four materials is particularly noteworthy as we contemplate the future without fossil carbon: the mass-scale production of all of them depends heavily on the combustion of fossil fuels, and some of these fuels also supply feedstocks for the synthesis of ammonia and for the production of plastics.

Anybody who thinks we can wave Greta's magic wand to reduce fossil fuel use is worse than an imbecile. Your modern way of life is TOTALLY dependent on fossil fuels and that will not change for the foreseeable future......no matter what Biden does. He is simply making your life artificially shittier and more expensive. He's a fucking idiot and so is his administration, just dumber than fuck.

On the topic of poverty/food.......worldwide reduction in the last 30 years from something like 46% to 10% of the 8 billion global population. Without ammonia production, worldwide population would be less than half and we'll peak around 10 billion before the big decline happens.

I'm gonna have to correct you there my man... its not just Joe it's anyone that thinks that eliminating or weening ourselves off fossil fuels is even possible. We can do the RandD for whatever magic bullet we try but we will never be off fossil fuels completely and limiting our production of them does not reduce our consumption of them. Only an idiot would do what is being done in the US right now and only bigger idiots would support it. They should go buy their Patagonia gear and drive whatever EV or any car and virtue signal all the way to whole foods. They probably expel more pollutants than anyone ....but they do the important thing by saying the right things .... they can't be expected to do the right things.

Uh huh.
In the 19th century the modern way of life was entirely dependent on horses and steam. Some people perceived the transition to coal and oil and some did not. Guess who won?
V Smill is a Bill Gates darling who elides data to make preconceived points. Globally, the transition to natural gas is stalling and being displaced by even cheaper renewables. This has been going on since 2015 and shows no signs of abating. Wind and solar power purchase agreements are well below natural gas and that will only increase given current events. Look at EU divestments from Russian gas.
The whole world knows fossil fuels are a golden cage and the land rush is on for rejected energy. China built more wind generation and solar generators in 2020 as the rest of the world combined.
Intellectual midgets like Goebbels will always be around screaming to hang onto the past of horses and steam. The future is a bet which only the strong can win.
My portfolio proves it.

Young people today are fucking stupid and ignorant.

Some of us lived during Jimmy Carter and run away inflation, 20% interest rates, the general malaise.

But the youngsters think they can do it different. They can do it better. They think it about socialism, which has failed all over the globe and resulted in death, war, and despair every time it is tried. But they went to a university. They're smarter. They'll make it work this one time.

Same with economics. Dump trillions of dollars in stimulus into an already roaring economy? Keep interest rates artificially low? Yeah, that'll be good. It created excess demand for goods and services that cannot be met, creating scarcity, and driving prices up -- inflation. The housing market has exploded into never never land because of 2 and 3% interest rates.

Now how to do fix it? Now you have to choke the economy nearly to death -- stop the flow of money, raise interest rates to double digit levels. Reduce demand to a bare minimum and slow down the artificially created economy. Choke it half to death. Result?

Higher prices on everything.
Housing market crash.
Double digit interest rates and inflation.
Higher unemployment.
Destruction of the stock market and retirement accounts.

There you have it. The fix to another liberal created problem. I am not sure that they're actually stupid. They know what will happen...but they just don't fucking care. Fuck America, fuck the economy, and fuck you. The Democrat way, as long as the sheep keep reelecting them each November.

at HeyI'mFullOfShit

Gates is a fan because Smil is the most knowledgeable person on the planet in this arena.
And you're most decidedly not.

How about a $1,000 bet, dummy?
Fossil fuel usage will be higher 10 years from now than today and wind/solar will still be a small percentage of global power production.

You'll be Erlich and I'll be Simon

@hey1madouche

You need to be able to store that electricity moron. You do know that it takes energy to push that stored energy over electrical line don't you?!!! Oops guess ya don't. Now go Google yourself a lil material about how much. Energy is expended and lost pushing that electricity over power lines.... Ill give ya a hint... its alot.

Also figure out how much energy is expended getting the raw materials to make that battery. Then figure out how much of those raw materials exist then how much we need. Then do something really hard for you ... come back here and be honest about what you found.

"V Smill is a Bill Gates darling who elides data to make preconceived points. Globally, the transition to natural gas is stalling and being displaced by even cheaper renewables."

Fucking moron tried to use a word he doesn't even understand.
"Elide", a sound or syllable omitted when speaking.
Don't try to punch above your weight, HeyMyIQIs20.

If you read the book, the last thing Smil does is skip over data.
This is the science, you do like science......right?

Due to the idiot Biden, Natgas has gone up huge in price while your "cheaper renewables" are anything but cheaper.......without guvmint subsidies, they would only exist as pilot projects for real scientists to study and laugh at. That, plus as Wun has pointed out, the cost and damage of the materials used in your "renewables" (fucking lol @ renewable) is never factored into your equation. AND, frankly........Smil accepts global warming and wants to solve it, just not in a stupid way like a Prog would.

The only cheaper energy is Nuclear and even if all global electrical energy production were nuclear, that still wouldn't solve the issue of plastics, ammonia, and other necessary products used to feed, clothe, package the world.

I know you haven't read any of Smil because a Progs sole purpose is to wave magic wands and announce that something will be thusly so..........regardless of reality.
Wishful thinking, incoherence of thought and irrationality.......the hallmarks of the Prog

You pointed out that China built more solar and wind farms than anywhere else in the world.... you know what else they built more than the rest of the world? Fucking coal power plants ...they are building more coal plants than the entire world has retired.

Guess what else.... Nuclear power plants. Building more than the rest of the world is retiring.

One would think as much as fan of the CCP that the more left leaning members here that they would look at them as an example .... but NOPE... they are just more than willing to rolling over and dying.

The latest gift from the imbecilic Progs?
Brownouts and blackouts.........

"Summer is around the corner, and we suggest you prepare by buying an emergency generator, if you can find one in stock. Last week the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) warned that two-thirds of the U.S. could experience blackouts this summer. Welcome to the “green energy transition.”

"One problem is that subsidies enable wind and solar generators to turn a profit even when the supply of electricity exceeds demand. Coal and nuclear plants, on the other hand, can’t make money running only some of the time, so many have shut down. Natural-gas-fired plants can help pick up the slack, but there aren’t enough of them to back up all of the renewables coming onto the grid."

"California last August scrambled to install five emergency gas-fired generators to avert blackouts, but its grid overseer recently warned of power outages this summer. The Golden State in past summers has relied on power imports from neighboring states. But coal plants across the West have been shutting down as renewables grow."

"Most Democrats don’t seem to recognize or care that their climate policies are making the grid less resilient and reliable. Instead they’re doubling down."

Stupid fucking Progs, we should just shut off their electricity.....let 'em fuck each other in the dark.

Ammonia contains no carbon and can be sustainably produced through electrolysis using "green" renewable energy sources through the Haber-Bosch process. Multinationals with private & government funding are working on various technologies to make these processes cheaper. Seimens PEM etc. It's not that hard or expensive and sure most H2 today is "grey" i.e. produced though steam methane refoming of natgas but the roadmap from grey to green for hydrogen (and therefore ammonia) is now well established and no significant technology gaps exist. We just need the political will to make it happen.
Renewable bio sources already exist for plastics. Many chemical plants are already being modified to alter feedstocks to bio' sources for plastics manufacturing. Do we really need everything we buy to be wrapped in 3 layers of plastic? When I was a kid we had milk delivered in recycled glass bottles by battery driven milk delivery vans.
Cement is a challenge for sure financially but again the technology is easy. Amine based CO2 capture is mature and lots of development work is ongoing to improve the processes and develop new ones to reduce the parasitic losses. Concrete may actually end up being a significant long term repository for CO2 sequestration as concrete producers mineralize carbon waste and inject it into concrete.

Non of the climate challenges are insurmountable technically. The issues are political. Governments, scientists and the energy and fossil fuel industry have known this is coming since the 1970's and have chosen not to act. Every day we delay makes the eventual cost, human and financial, higher.

Sooooo.... have fun while you can.

@ Ammonia has no carbon

Ammonia starts with CH4 as a feedstock, it's a naturally occurring hydrocarbon called Natural Gas.

Then there is the energy required to turn the feedstock into ammonia which is the primary basis of Nitrogen based fertilizers. There is no existing process that is renewable or bio-based that efficiently produces enough of this absolutely necessary ingredient that has allowed the planet to feed 8 billion people.

I will stop right there and give you time to read the book before I eviscerate the rest of your post.
