Not a good sign. Two British nationals and a man from Madagascar were sentenced to death by Russia after capture.

A third American volunteer has been captured. Nothing better to happen to them or that son of a bitch Putin will have to pay.

While I respect the bravery of men who volunteer to fight, I think it is a bad decision for Americans to go over there and risk being captured by the Russians.
The small contribution they can make to the Ukrainian war effort is more than undone by the potential leverage they provide Putin when they are taken captive.
The capture of Americans puts our government in a very bad position. If we don't try to get them back safely, we are unfeeling and/or weak. If we do try to get them back, Putin will want something from us that is not in our national interest.
Damned if we do and damned if we don't!

But if the Afghanistan exist has taught us anything it's that Biden wont be trying to use special forces to get prisoners. He might fly a few drones around and kill innocent civilians for a media story that would need to be walked back.
To make matters worse there is so much incompetence with Blinken a the state dept that a successful negotiated return is doubtful.
The current Administration's skill set is surrender, cut & run.
45 would never had allowed the situation which had Putin thinking attacking Ukraine was reasonable to even happen.

The British, Moroccan and Americans captured in Ukraine are all fighting for democracy and are true heroes. The world should bring hell to Putin if any of them die.

The contribution we have made to the Ukranian war effort is already enough. We have surpassed what we can reasonably afford and have to actually prepare for the immediate needs of our own nation.
