38% natural gas
22% coal
20% renewables
19% nuclear
1% other petroleum
Of the 20% renewables, 2.8% was solar and 9.2% was wind
So plug those Teslas in and you are mostly using natural gas and coal.....60%

More upfront $$$, sitting around the charging station, less range, etc. The benefit is eaten up by inflation and higher costs everywhere.

i have solar and cant think of a smarter way to produce your household energy and if you have an EV vehicle - then you are also driving at no cost (except the higher cost of the EV vehicles).
Highly recommend anyone in socal to get solar, its a no brainer.
Manipulating the market to push up the price over $5/gallon does probably make a lot of people look at EV and hybrids as better alternatives.
Petrol/oil industry will never go away as we need it for so many purposes.
Maybe renewed look at nuclear energy is on the horizon?

In 2021 all car manufacturers sold less than 2% electric cars
1.5% were Teslas
So less than .05 electric cars from all other manufacturers were sold in the US

When Democracy was first invented, this land had less than 2.5 million people.
Perhaps Democracy, as it was first created, does not scale well to over 300 million.
True American Democracy benefited a certain segment of landowners, and no one else. Is this what we want to go back to? I guess in a way, it was never really changed. Marketing has made the poor's believe that the system can work for them too. At the same time you have a certain elderly population that has been brainwashed to believe that the system is working for them too.
What we have now is very different and has been thoroughly perverted by greed and corruption.

Even if every freakin lease was granted today, oil would not be flowing from these projects for years. Granting new leases will have NO impact on current energy prices. The better question to ask is why we have shortages and high prices today when the opposite should be occurring due to the policies of the Trump administration. The only place the big buys want to invest is in the Gulf of Mexico, where it seems leases will be granted. Finally, the future of energy production in the U.S. is in fracking and almost all fracking takes place on private land.

OPEC+ is now looking at curtailing supply, because they don't like that the price of oil dropped a bit in the last month. They will decrease production and drive the price right back up, because we and much of the rest of the world need their oil. Of course, if we produced our OWN oil, we could tell the OPEC+ (which includes Russia) to go fuck themselves.

We currently import 46,228,000 barrels of oil from OPEC per month.
Of course, we were down to 14,482 in December 2020, so we are now buying 3 times as much from them now.
So, when they raise their prices, we do get to pay those new prices.

When Tesla can't import enough batteries to keep up with demand, their value will drop. When people realize there are not enough charging stations and that it takes far too long to charge a fully empty battery, the value will drop.
Until then, the pollyannas will keep electric highly valued.
