That amount of oil released from the SPR is minuscule, it has no bearing on prices, it's a rounding error.
HOWEVER:
It's emblematic of Brain Dead Biden's lack of domestic "optics".
He must be supremely confident in how blindly his supporters will line up behind him despite how bone headed his decisions are.
Like with so many other "symbolic" decisions that come out of this administration, the result even though minimal in actuality, as a signal to the broader market, it sends a negative message.
Oil is a futures market, just like on the first day in office he killed the Keystone pipeline which sent ripple effects through the market. Boom, instantly up went the spot price & just as quickly the price all along the supply chain and yes, at the pump.

You should learn basic economics. Oil companies didn’t suddenly become greedy. They were greedy before Biden and greedy now. There is no special reason oil prices rose as a result of them being greedy. This all on Biden who has been attacking the oil industry since his first day in office.

In January 2022 the average price of gasoline in CA was $4.58 per gallon.
In late February of 2022 Russia invaded Ukraine.
In May of 2022 the average price of gasoline in CA was $5.87 per gallon.
If you believe that all of the gas price increase was the result of Russia invading Ukraine as we have been told by certain government officials then I have a bridge to sell you. Bring small unmarked bills.

US refineries are already at full capacity. So there is no way Biden can send the crude oil to US refineries because they already tapped. Again, US oil companies are not going to invest more money when they already making a killing. Why work harder to sell your product at a lower price because of increased inventory?
Biden admin thinks by selling the oil to other companies, this will bring down oil prices. But its not making a dent. Because .....this is a manufactured crisis by the world oil industry. There is enough supply.

I doubt that gas prices will be coming down very much.
Less driving due to the high gas prices is certainly contributing to keeping
gas prices stable.
It was predicated that the price will actually increase.
It appears that we are now in a recession.

Roughly 1M barrels went to a Chinese state owned company that still has ties to Hunter.

Only the futures and commodities markets are relatively "free".
The actual permitting, drilling, development is far from free as it's pretty much controlled by the Feds/States.
Not saying that's a bad thing cause there needs to be some regulation of all this but for the Biden admin to shut the whole thing down while China and Russia continue to build coal fired plants, etc. is incredibly dumb.
If Western companies do it, then it's going to be cleaner for the enviro than if the Socialists do it. There's almost no accounting for the enviro over there, so by shutting ours down, you're simply exporting the pollution to them and they don't give a fuck at all.
Again, Progs virtue signally and fucking everything up...........business as usual.
