Well, I think we all first have to understand that morons like this don't actually understand the difference between a true socialist state vs. a capitalist one with a strong social welfare system.

Socialism - When the workers own the means of production of a company. Typical examples are companies that are nationalized by the government. Other times where companies have sold portions to their employees.
Trotskyism - This was started in the Russian Empire by Trotsky who advocated world wide revolution of Marxist-Leninism. He became an opposition to Stalin, because Stalin only wanted to establish Marxist-Leninism within the Soviet Union. Trotsky wanted to wage wars across the world to establish world wide Marxist-Leninism.
Communism - When everyone is equal in terms of social class, race, wealth, etc. No "Communist" country has achieved this, but that is their end goal whether it takes thousands of years or however long. This can have different methods of achieving. Previous ML countries have tried to achieve this equality quicker at the expense of an overall poorer society, using State-Socialism. Modern ML countries enact a version of State-Capitalism in order to gather wealth faster to eventually achieve a society where people have equal richer wealth.

We have mountains of evidence from Cambridge Analytica to every advertisement there ever was that did not sell the relevant features of a product (e.g. using a sound to sell soda, or using women to sell beer) to prove how easy it is for corporations to game the average citizen.
That's why we have federal government regulatory agencies to protect the citizens. And EVERY COUNTRY does this.

We could easily picture a government that owns the means of production and still have citizens vote the representatives in charge.
People always dishonestly compare the worst examples of failed socialist countries with the best examples of capitalism -- which aren't purely capitalistic in the first place because it doesn't exist. We have government owned institutions in our social democracy (which Bernie is for). We have a national military, we have USPS, the highway system, Medicare, social security, etc. So every example of successful capitalism are also examples of successful socialistic policies.
Of course the pinheads are only capable of black and white contrasts because they're too low IQ to handle nuance.

Socialism is anti-utopian by intent and design. Marx hated the Utopians. That was part of his motivation to develop a scientific method for predicting historical processes and designing a system of government which would guide an inevitable proletarian revolution.
What happened instead was so many of his ideas were applied in every democracy around the world that the penultimate crisis was avoided with preventive medicine. Unions, social security, child welfare, free education, free healthcare, federally insured banks, the list is endless.
Socialism is everywhere. And all of you have benefited from it, starting with your first day in kindergarten.
If you want to read a perfect description of socialism in the real world I suggest a book called the New Testament.

I tried to get rid of my Social Security card but found I'd have to move to one of 3 counties in Texas where it doesn't exist......couldn't do it.
For sure, if I'd been investing all the money I've put in, my income now would be 5 times as high as SSA (if i were taking it, which im not).. In fact, that's about the differential in retirement income between those counties and the rest of us. It's actually a reallly shitty deal and will be broke in about 10 years.
But, no worries, your other socialist deal....Medicare, will be broke before that.

The US with 5% of world population produces over 50% of world wealth. But my point is very simple. As a nation with all our faults, we are a far better place to live than anyplace else on earth. So those other countries have humans who are doing a far worse job of putting together a country to live.
We can continue to whine and complain about our past. It is just that, our PAST. People today have a great future, but if they keep bitching and complaining about the past, they won't see their future. Most of the radical change ideas I see will have far worse consequences than where we are.
