Lumbar support
Jan 29 2022 07:08PM more by MissNatCox
Tags: LA, Random (All tags)

I am having some back issues. And I have been looking into different options for my car. I drive a lot, and I have noticed the shift in my hips. I want to correct my posture and make the pain minimal

Any suggestions for some lumbar support for my car?

I have seen some massage/heat pads and thought that might help for the longer drives. But was not sure if there was something out there I was not seeing.

Rolled up Tshirt. Make it the width of your lower back and roll it not so tight. It works. I have done it many times.

Hi Nat

If you have seats in your car that have lower back / seat warmers --- turn them onto 2 or 3 --- whichever you're comfortable with... Heat is King / Queen in managing lower back pain...

Also, every morning do about 3 to 5 minutes of downward dog yoga position --- that should take any pain from an 8 level (for example) down to a 2 level... And then get some Icy Hot Roll-On, and apply that to your lower back at least every 4 hours

Also, your seats may have a lumbar support button on the side...

A definite must use for everyone

No seat heaters, which is why I looked at the massage/heat car chair mat (idk the technical name)

At the moment I have put my seat sitting up as straight as I can, my hips just shift once I’m comfortable.

I’m going to try the shirt for temporary

Chiropractor ?

I use to drive with my wallet in the back pocket, had to stop that many moons ago.

Plus I don't think the seats in the 3 Accords I drove for the career job helped. 33k miles a yr.

MIne's in Diamond Bar and it's a drive. Been going there for 12yrs now. But that's not going to work.

The seats in my Charger were fine, heated too.

Lacrosse balls are much better than tennis balls. Slightly larger, much firmer, and don't wear out.

+1 on the inversion table

I got one about 6 months ago and it has made a huge difference in both both posture and stretching, as well as lower back pain relief, I use it daily and swear by it

Stretch out your back in the morning -
Lay on the floor with your knees bent and your feet flat on the floor.
Bring your knees up to your chest and wrap your arms around your lower legs and squeeze your thighs into your chest. Hold for a SLOW 10 - 15 count.
Lower your legs to original position then put one ankle over the other leg to form a figure 4. Bring the leg up to your chest and put a hand on the leg that's not crossed over and again squeeze the leg into your chest. Again hold for a slow 10 - 15 count.
Repeat with the other leg.

I have a bad back as well and I do this every morning. After I'm done my back feels great and I'm ready to get on with the day.

Some cars have lumbar support adjustment on the side of the seat it's a lever or nob.

Also the correct position for driving is key

The ideal driving position 3:55

Purchasing a product
If google "lumbar support for car"

Such as product
Prime Stash Store. Orthopedic memory foam lumbar back support cushion headrest pillow

On here mentioned an inversion table. Hanging upside is wonderful for the back, blood goes to the head though.
Again don't need to purchase if near a Park and there's pull up bars hang up side down from under your knee. There's a position I use hard to describe. For pull up bars upside. Arms behind grabbing bar, pull myself in an upside down twirl having my legs go through my arms to now hang upside down.

Also being in the water helps.

Peppermint soap is a natural relaxation and antibacterial. Will make the water feel cold though.

A back brace (the one that wraps around the waist), works great for me. There are even fancy version that has heat. Once you wear it, you can not shift away like adding a lumbar.

Also a just hanging (on a pull up bar) is another way to stretch the back out.

Hope all is well.

Sorry to hear Natalie. Once you get better, work towards strengthening your core (leg lifts, sit ups, crunches, etc) and don't forget your back side and develop good form when lifting things. You will avoid back pain for good.

The Nissan Altima
2019 fully loaded non leather
I drove from the car rental once from oc to SD had

Zero gravity
NASA seats

I have slip disk myself
And was in allot of pain before that drive

I drove 1.5 plus hours and by the time I arrived I was nearly 70% relieved from the pain.
I didn't know why at the time I was this way.
I learned somehow soon thereafter researching the car
That it was probably from those seats!

And it's really hard to find the car+seat on info car ads etc

But it's out there.
