A Ukraine Invasion Could Go Nuclear: 15 Reactors Would Be In War Zone.
As Russia’s buildup on the Ukrainian border continues, few observers note that an invasion of Ukraine could put nuclear reactors on the front line of military conflict. The world is underestimating the risk that full-scale, no-holds-barred conventional warfare could spark a catastrophic reactor failure, causing an unprecedented regional nuclear emergency.
Plausible but unlikely; just because Russia announced it had weapons that dumped radiation doesn't mean they're likely to attack nuclear plants or sabotage. I say low(er) risk than the article suggests but it does bring up something I don't think the article brought up, not a direct one, a damaged plant might curtail enthusiasm towards building plants again.
I could see either side somehow deliver weaponised COVID into the barracks and then blame the virus for sick soldiers. Not a single bullet fired, and the situation de-escalates.

Russian troops are firing at Europe's largest nuclear power plant, Ukrainian official says.
Ukraine's foreign minister said Thursday that Europe's largest nuclear plant in the country's southeast was taking fire from Russian troops.
"Russian army is firing from all sides upon Zaporizhzhia NPP, the largest nuclear power plant in Europe," the foreign minister, Dmytro Kuleba, said on Twitter. "Fire has already broke out."
Kuleba added that if the plant, which holds six of the country's 15 reactors, explodes, it will be far worse than the 1986 Chernobyl disaster.
In a video posted on Telegram, Andriy Tuz, a facility spokesperson, demanded that Russia stop shelling the plant and said there was a "real threat of nuclear danger," according to the Associated Press.
The development came one day after Mariano Grossi, the director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency, said he was "gravely concerned" about the invasion of Ukraine.
"It is the first time a military conflict is happening amidst the facilities of a large, established nuclear power program," he said.
"I have called for restraint from all measures or actions that could jeopardize the security of nuclear and other radioactive material, and the safe operation of any nuclear facilities in Ukraine, because any such incident could have severe consequences, aggravating human suffering and causing environmental harm."

I am disturbed by the videos that I'm seeing. They are destroying the country. While I think that we can't directly intervene because of the risk of starting WWIII and nuclear war, we can't allow Putin to destroy Ukraine and kill its people (over 98% of the 40 million Ukrainians are still in the country).
I hope NATO can act without expanding the war beyond Ukraine.

most of europe havent seen war since ww2 and since the end of cold war, most have abandoned procedures for nuclear war, there are very few bombshelters and they are outdated and havent been upkept, some i understand are rented out for events and for plain storage..
Nuclear war in europe would be devastating, unspeakable losses.
Any superpower even mentioning the potential use of nuclear bombs in an offensive strategy should immediately get shut down.

NATO facing off Russia directly in the Ukraine would be just want he wants. As much as I would love to see a wave of fighter bombers, bombers turning Putin's air defences and that 40 mile column into a funeral pyre but that would mobilize all of Russia. Basically "See! NATO really is the enemy."
I would love to see the cheap bastards in Europe lend/lease aircraft. Send over older MIGs, Grippens with SEAD capability. Give the Ukranians some serious anti-shipping weapons. Harpoon can be used as a land battery and attack land targets.
