Another case of our schools empowering people to "stand up for your rights!" and, "You don't need to comply with an unconstitutional demand!" And add TikTok to that madness as well.
Only they forgot one thing - when someone has a gun in your face you are only a split second, and one jumpy trigger finger, away from being eliminated from the gene pool. He may have been well within his rights to not obey the commands of LEO's, but he is still dead! Maybe on his grave marker they will engrave, "He was within his rights!" Stupid, stupid, stupid! Senseless loss of a seemingly decent young person because nobody told him how dangerous it was to not comply with a LEO's commands. It really doesn't hurt to do so, if they had no right to get you out of the car in the first place then the courts may disallow everything that followed (fruit of the poisonous tree). And, you can sue them for false arrest! But you can't sue them if you are dead!
There are plenty of things in this world to risk your life on in taking a stand, but that wasn't one of them!

And yes, I will go where others dare to go in saying that Blacks seem to have the monopoly on this kind of stupid behavior. What are their parents teaching them (or not teaching them)? It is absolutely sickening to see these types of incidents almost everyday in America now. What have we become? How have we failed our children so much?

Don't misrepresent the numbers. Per capita, black Americans face a significantly higher rate of police violence than white Americans do. The current statistics from 2015 to now is 2.3 per million for white Americans and 5.9 per million for black Americans.
I hate when people spread bullshit like yours. It makes it clear you don't understand shit. I'm not here to take sides, but I'll not cool with people misrepresenting the facts to feed their own misleading narrative.

So once the police kill someone white at a traffic stop, then clearly all statistics magically don’t matter. Even if the ratio were 500 to 1, once a white guy gets killed by the police, there is no longer evidence of police targeting blacks?
Isn’t that logic in and of itself racist? Since it happened to a white guy, that negates any patten of racism.
Don’t you think blacks might not comply because of the fear that they may be killed when stopped by the police? That’s called a fight or flight response and it is involuntary.

Marrisa - You’re one of the smartest people here, but your comment about the behavior of Black people is disappointing. There have literally been Black people with their hands up who’ve been shot by police. A few years ago, a Black guy was laying on the ground with both arms raised up and the fucking cop still shot him. And what about the Black guy who was recently dragged out of his car by cops and then beaten to death for no reason while he was in fucking handcuffs. As a white guy, I don’t have much to fear from being pulled over by the cops. That’s not necessarily the case for a Black man. My behavior would not be influenced by fear, but I can see how a Black person would be.

Not sure why anyone would demand their rights, fight, resist or in any way do anything to irritate LE. As Marissa said, you might get the privilege of posting that your rights were violated on your gravestone.
In almost every single instance where anyone of any color is killed by LE, it involves resisting, fleeing, fighting, sudden motions of hands, etc. If the LE asks me to stand on my head and chant, I will just ask, how loudly?

I am going to stick to my guns (no pun intended) on this one. I do not consider myself a racist, but I recognize that someone else may see me that way. I was born in Georgia (US) so I definitely have a southern style education and upbringing, but I don't think that should automatically qualify me as being racist.
If you view these shootings in reverse, that is from the point of when the bullet leaves the barrel, then ask yourself why that was necessary, you will ultimately reach a point where you will see a stupid act on the part of the victim. The critical point is when an officer actually pulls his weapon out. I don't believe that they predominantly do that just because someone is black, they do it because the victim is not obeying their commands to;
Keep your hands on the steering wheel where I can see them.
Step out of the car.
Turn the ignition off.
Or any of the numerous requests or demands that they make that don't seem too threatening.
It is usually somewhere at these critical junctions that the victim decides that he needs to argue with the officer and claim his innocence, which raises the fear level of the officer and makes him feel the need to pull the weapon. And that is the critical point that could, and should have been avoided by simply obeying the officers instructions. Almost all of these types of incidents involve getting to the point of having a weapon displayed and yet the victim STILL refuses to obey, even arguing more vigorously, which only heightens the tension. My point is once the incident escalates to having a weapon pointed at you then shut the fuck up, pay attention, and follow
instructions. Anything else is potentially suicidal! This is the simple lesson that seems to not being taught and learned in the black communities. I think it is tragic that anybody, regardless of race, should perish like this, but I put the blame squarely on the lack of parenting and not learning some of the most basic things we should learn as children; respect authority - and if they they have a weapon and you don't, then double respect them!
There are certainly some bad cops in the barrel, no doubt about that. There have been some egregious acts committed by some of them, like the ones you have mentioned. I believe that some cops are actually looking forward to the experience of shooting someone (kind of a "thrill kill" situation). So the moral of the story should be; don't give them an excuse!

Even in the California Drivers Manual, there is a section about what to do at a LE stop of your vehicle. If people would only heed what has been told to them.

officer makes contact with you.
The driver and all passengers should place their hands in clear view
before the officer makes contact with them.
It goes on to review rights but states:
Even if you believe your rights were violated, you should not engage
in physical resistance or violence against the officer. If an officer
does something that you believe violates your rights, you can voice your
objection, but you should not physically resist. Everyone has the right to
be safe during a traffic stop. Your safety and the officer�s safety could be
jeopardized if the situation escalates with physical resistance or violence

In reviewing numbers, don't lose sight of the number of arrests and interactions with LE.
2019, Black Americans accounted for 26.6% of all arrests, nearly twice their percentage of the population (using 13.6% the 2021 census data).
They accounted for 36.4% of arrests for violent crimes, or 2.7 times their percentage of the population.
With these higher percentage numbers of total arrests and violent crimes arrests, there are far more 'interactions' between Black Americans and LE, which could certainly account for the noted increase as a percentage of LE on black violence. The more interactions, the greater chance of a violent interaction.
We all need to understand the numbers and look at the entire picture. There are too many 'narratives' that do not give all the data. People throw around the 'numbers' they have been told or they want to believe. All data must be taken in context.
If my group has a nearly 3 times greater number arrests for violent crime, I guess I might expect my group to have nearly 3 times the number of killings at the hands of LE.

It's great that someone mentioned proportionality, but it works both ways:
1) In New York City, black people commit about 75% of all shootings, even though they’re 23% percent of the population
2) In Chicago, black people commit about 80% of all shootings, though they’re less 1/3 of the population
3) In Los Angeles, black people commit 44% percent of all violent crime, though they’re 9% percent of the population
4) In St. Louis, black people commit 90% of homicides, though they’re 4% to 6% of the population

So, black people (specially black men) will proportionally have more encounters with police because they are committing proportionally much higher violent crime. Now let the excuses commence...

This might shock your opinion of me being racist but I actually understand and empathize why black commit a high proportion of crimes; they are still being discriminated against, plain and simple. At a time of record low unemployment they still have problems finding jobs. I get that! I understand that! I empathize with that! The higher crime rates are mostly a byproduct of their circumstances. But that does not excuse someone disobeying a lawful order by the authorities. Its not brain surgery - 1) avoid escalating something as simple as a traffic stop into something much bigger, and 2) as soon as the weapons come out, shut up and obey their commands without comments, criticisms, or delay. Get your citation and go home to dinner with the wife and kids!
