It would seem logical that in this wonderful country there must be at least a few really good, really intelligent people to run for President.
Instead we have had to choose between truly awful people foe several election in a row.

I’ll jump into the “really smart people” tangent.
Grew up with two incredibly smart and capable people that had good families and established connections to “move them up”. I could honestly seem either becoming a Senator or President.
One burnt out on the way, as she could not trust others under her role to “do things their way”, not follow her protocols (that would have improved operations) and mess up her efforts to get good things done.
The other quit moving up and stayed at the local level in his wife’s State, as he hated the wheeling and dealing on a daily basis that he had to go through to get stuff to legislature, and then at the end of the day have some or something fuck up what was supposed to “set in stone” due to circumstances and incompetence from below.
Both hated all the pride swallowing they had to do to get measures passed.
Worse than what you see on TV. Because on TV even dimwits had a reason to fuck things up (that made sense) and in real life that is not the case.

But I also think that if the Jan 6 insurrection had been successful then there is no doubt in my mind that there never would be a 2024 election because DJT would simply declare martial law because of some fabricated crisis and suspended elections, as well as habeas corpus. If you can get away with a straight up coup then martial law is a piece of cake! That is also the mark of Totalitarianism. That is why I asked (tongue in cheek) who you were talking about.

I liked Trump. He kept us out of a war, kept the border under control, we were energy
independent, low gas prices, low unemployment and a good economy.
Biden becomes POTUS, and all hell breaks loose. But the Dems will tell

@MA1, I listened to the Jon Stewart interview. That was just one person's opinion about
about the right to bear arms. Also Stewart presents his own argument and then draws
his own conclusion about what the OK state senator said. I got nothing from that interview.
The senator has his opinion and Stewart had his opinion.
I wouldn't base my decision on whether to vote for a Republican based on that interview.
