I have seen this happen to several high profile people, at least one that I knew personally: They think way too much of themselves to suffer the humiliation of going to jail so they would rather punch their own ticket instead. If DJT gets sentenced to any amount of jail instead of house arrest, he may very well follow that pattern.
The person I knew was Bruce Vorhauer, inventor of the Today Sponge Contraceptive. After taking the Today Sponge business public and making a ton of money (at the time) he moved to Montana and built a huge home on a island in the middle of Salmon Lake. I won't go into the a lot of the specifics of the story, you can read about the main points in the attached article. But I will divulge a few details about his high-flying lifestyle that the article missed.
Bruce had 3 bachelor's degrees, 2 master's degrees, and a Phd in Biomedical Engineering. He was a very smart guy. Right after college he went to work for the CIA when George H. W. Bush (#41) was head of the CIA. They had a friendship that lasted beyond the CIA days. When #41 was president, Bruce would regularly have dinner at the White House with George and Barbara in their private quarters. When he committed suicide, he actually got a heads up through his political connections that he was going to be indicted the very next day. He beat prosecutors to the punch.
His fall from grace was not the straw that broke the camel's back, it was the thought of doing a public perp walk and spending even one day in jail; that was just too much for his ego to handle. Another point the article missed was that when the house on Salmon Lake was going to be auctioned off, his parents were actually living there at the time. The humiliation would have been complete.
There is no such thing as loving yourself too much to ever commit suicide for guys like Bruce Vorhauer or DJT. All it takes is the anticipated humiliation that they never thought they would be required to endure. It would be pretty hard for any person to stomach, especially when they thought they deserved a Nobel Peace Prize, a place on Mt. Rushmore, and considered themself to be the best president in American History. When the mighty fall, they do fall hard!

"Peacefully and Patriotically" be damned...three months earlier, Trump told his supporters to "fight like hell." That is the incitement??? Now here we go. Election season. We can't have Trump get elected, so let's "trump" up some misdemeanor charge in NYC. Oh the Statute of Limitations is expired on that misdemeanor? No problem, let's elevate it to a felony that has a longer statute...even though it will never stick, we can't have Trump around, so let's drag him through the mud with a prosecutor that campaigned that if elected he would "GET DONALD TRUMP." ^ I won't disagree that there is a large political aspect to all the accusations against him. But it is his own doing. He went out of his way to insult a lot of people with his childish nickname stunts (see attached). I guess he never considered that they would be in power one day and it might come back to haunt him. We like to think these supposedly highly professional people are above petty revenge, but guess what - they are human, and when you mess with someone's emotional wellbeing then you had better be prepared for a counterattack! What worked for him on the streets of New York City clearly does not work in the halls of congress.

Even with evidence in hand, the FBI Director said that he would not refer Hillary Clinton for prosecution...a basement server, secret email addresses, Bleach Bit, smashing of Blackberry devices with hammers, and destruction of SIM cards -- all while under Congressional subpoena!

New problem -- The DA has withheld exculpatory evidence, namely a letter from Cohen's attorneys to the Federal Election Commission that stated that Cohen acted alone, Trump had no knowledge of, and had nothing to do with the Stormy payment, and that Cohen made no political donations to anyone, and that Trump never reimbursed Cohen, nor was he asked to be reimbursed for the Stormy payment. This letter has been withheld from the Grand Jury!

We are witnessing partisan prosecutions based upon a persons political beliefs and that has been a prevalent tactic for the last two years. Dissent and be punished. Trust me, when they are done with Trump they will move onto the next tier. If they violate the constitution to prosecute people then we have lost it all. They are still holding January 6 violators without bail. Again, whatever your political bias, we cannot afford to allow these sorts of activities to continue. I want my rights when they come for me.

The slave labor wasn't free...a dirty legacy left by the British, and by other blacks in Africa, who sold their own into slavery to begin with.

None have ever filed Chapter 7 bankruptcy. Now if you don't know the difference between an 11BK and a 7BK, you're stupider than average and should just bugger off right now.
So Trump has started at least 106 companies. Only 6 filed for Chapter 11. So he has a business success rate of about 94.4%. Meanwhile in America, new businesses have a failure rate of 70% within 10 years! That's only a 30% failure rate.
Now you're going to tell me that Trump is rich. So he should not be afforded protections under the laws of our country and should have to pay all of his companies' outstanding bills out of his personal pocket. Well, that flies in the face of the law and of common sense. When an investor is faced with no corporate veil protections when taking a business risk, guess what...there's a very good chance he does not invest. No new companies, no new products, no new jobs.

Interesting to note, however that modern slavery still exists all over the world, including here and in Britain.........we just changed the name to "human trafficking".
As an afterthought, allow me to add that, in fact, yes........rich is an idiot and an ignorant one at that.
