Trump was not indicted for the NDA and payoff. He was indicted because he laundered the payment as a "business expense" (claiming that it was legal fees) making it a misdemeanor falsification of business records.
Alvin Bragg has escalated the charge by claiming that it was part of a plan to commit election fraud, making it a felony.
If you're fine with all that, go ahead and stand behind Trump, but at least pay attention to the actual charges.
